We are looking for five or six players

Several Goalkeepers

Gilbert

Morrison

Hoobs

Tunchev

Dyer

Berner

as regulars

Gradel, King and Mattock had only a handful of games between them.

I'd call that a substantial rebuild especially when you add on

Edworthy, Cleverly, Davis, Adams, Powell and Brown as back ups.

King and Mattock had palyed enough games before this season to not be classed as 'new'.

So in really it's Oakley, Fryatt, King, Mattock, Howard. Add to that Henderson, Hayles and Kisnorbo.

What I'm saying is, although we need a few new players...we don't need a whole new first team.

I don't disagree but was just pointing out that it worked this season. As is usually the case it's not numbers of players thats the problem it's making sure they are of sufficient quality, have a winning mentality and can perform within a team. If needs must and Pearson had to rebuild, based on this season I'd have very few fears.

Tunchev will be back sooner rather than later. Bulgaria need him for their World Cup campaign.

I really 8 people like you who disrespect people and players the way you do......really f-in STINKS :@

Hobbs permanent

Brown permanent

Gilbert permanent

Cleverley loan deal

New keeper - could be anyone

Striker - someone in the Howard mould

Striker - poacher, with a bit of pace

Midfielder - koumas?

Need at least 8 IMO.

Dickov and Hayles are not good enough, and people will still question Fryatt so we are desperate for some more fire power.

I've always thought Koumas was a very gifted player but his career has been littered with under achievement everywhere he's played (apart from tranmere in div 3)- I'd be surprised if he was a Pearson type of player and I would hope we can do better for the money he would cost

Is that the euphoria of promotion of promotion or something?

I've heard nothing that suggests Clemence will be back, Kissa will likely leave and we'll have to see if Tunchev gets back before Christmas and with no ill effects.

If I were preparing for the new season I wouldn't bank on any one of those three.

Clemence told my brother and his freind at the Player of the Year awards (I know that sounds like a bullshit "transfer target" type sentence)that he will be back training in pre-season. Not sure whether I'd like him to stay here or not but I think it's best if Nige has a look at him and see what he thinks.

Depends on what they mean by 'new' and how many of the loan players will become permanent or re-sign as loanees.

We need a right back or 2, a goalie or 2, 2 strikers minimum and 2 midfielders minimum.

I make that 6-8 new players needed.

If we could get Cleverly and Gilbert for the season again that would be 2 off the list.

With 2 strikers, a goalie, a winger, and a centre midfielder at least to follow.

I keep seeing people say 2 strikers because Dickov and Hayles are clearly not good enough (which I do agree with btw). I just wonder what kind of strikers people are expecting we'll be able to attract considering they'll likely be behind Howard and Fryatt in the pecking order. You won't get much better than Dickov and Hayles if you can't promise first team football I'm afraid.

Phillips, Cox, Lambert, Beckford, Mclean, Mcail Smith, Mc Sheffery, Illueomo. Any 2 please :yahoo:

This is true. Although to be fair, we can do much better than these two, lower League One strikers at best. Will Ashley Chambers ever get his chance properly? If it didn't happen in League One, I'm starting to wonder whether it ever will. I hope I'm wrong.

In my opinion, we need two goalkeepers, two right backs (Gilbert one of these), a left winger, another central midfielder and two strikers, so 7 players.

Get rid of Henderson, Logan, Edworthy, Kisnorbo, Adams, Dickov, Campbell and Hayles and we'd have a pretty tidy squad with little deadwood I think.

Phillips - Too old.

Beckford - WE ARE NOT GETTING HIM.

McLean - Too expensive.

McKail-Smith - Too expensive.

McSheffrey - Not sure whether he's good enough anymore.

Iwelumo -Premiership bound.

The only realistic target out of that lot is Lambert in my opinion. I think we could be seeing him in the Championship next season.

Said this team before and i'll say it again.

GK - David Stockdale (Fulham) £500k?

RD - Derek Geary (Sheff Utd? :dunno: ) £250k

CD - Aleksandar Tunchev

CD - Jack Hobbs (Liverpool) £400k

LD - Djimi Traore (Portsmouth) free

RM - Matt Oakley

CM - Gavin Mahon (QPR) £500k

CM - Andrew Surman (Southampton) £1mil

LM - Lloyd Dyer

CF - Steve Howard

CF - Simon Cox (Swindon) £1.5mil

subs

David Martin (Liverpool) free

Wayne Brown (Hull) free or £200k, not sure really

Max Gradel

Andy King

Matty Fryatt

This would work out at approx £4.5mil, which is affordable. I have made up these transfer fees but they are realistic guesses, and I honestly think thats a team good enough to launch a serious playoff bid.

Shame it's not Football Manager really.

Cox is probably off to West Brom who we can't compete with financially. Doubt we'll be the only one lurking for Surman, but would be a good signing.

Speculating is not worthwhile. What I do know though is we need to strengthen up top.

At least one Gk, maybe one permanant & one loan?

A right back. Hoping Gilbert comes back.

Then we have decent cover at CB (Hobbs, Brown, Tunch & Morrison)

Presuming Mattock stays, then we have him & Berner for left back. (I assume Powell is retiring?)

We have Gradel & Oakley for right wing & Dyer for left wing. A winger is needed, maybe one that can play on both the right and left of midfield.

We alson need a central midfielder or two. Currently King, Oakley & Berner can play there.

As for up front, Hayles & Dickov need to go & we need two strikers to compliment Howard & Fryatt.

So presuming Hobbs & Brown have signed, Gilbert & maybe Stockdale return, that would leave another 6 signings. One GK, one winger, two other midfielders & two strikers.

That's pretty agreeable. Not sure we need two more strikers. I'd prefer one really good one and having Chambers coming through hopefully. In midfield we could us a decent utility player. Just someone who can ddecently fill a gap anywhere when one or two of our 1st choice players are injured or suspended.

1 keeper, right back(gilbert i hope) maybe cover aswell, left back cover, left, right and center mid cover, 1 striker.

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric is poised to back manager Nigel Pearson to the extent of up to six new players for next season's Championship campaign.

The dust has not yet settled on City's League One title achievement, but already the club are preparing for the next level up.

Two on-loan men, Jack Hobbs and Wayne Brown, are permanent-deal targets already, but there looks like being more.

Mandaric said: "Now the hard work starts. We are already having strategy meetings and recognising the needs for more quality.

"We are looking for five or six players and we are having discussions along that plan with Nigel and his staff.

One thing about the manager is that his judgement is spot-on, and I am very happy with that. "We have a good base and we will give the current squad every opportunity to participate, and for that reason we are not going to bring in large numbers of players but be very selective."

That is in contrast to last year when Martin Allen brought in 14 players, which proved too many to be integrated into the squad he inherited.

Next season will be geared to give City every chance of competing for that longed-for return to the Premier League, and Mandaric said: "The worst thing for me would be to predict that, but what our supporters must know is that the character of people like Nigel and myself is to be successful, and the way to do that is to go to the next promotion."

Mandaric has been delighted with the level of support and said: "The fans have been great in sticking with us this season.

"It is their club really. It was here over a hundred years before I came and it will be here a hundred years after.

"I am very grateful for their incredible support after so many years of not being successful."

i've wanted for so long for someone at the club to say that :appl:

whether they'll do it, is a different question altogether...

Our 1st team squad for next season:

Gk -

Defenders - Hobbs, Tunchev, Brown, Mattock, Berner, Morrison, Worley

Midfielders - Clemence (fitness?), Oakley, King, Dyer, Gradel, Wesolowski, Adams, Psssh

Forwards - Howard, Fryatt, Campbell, Dickov, Chambers, Hayles

The players I have highlighted I believe stand a chance of competing in the Championship.

We have no Goalkeepers!

We have no right backs

Will Clem ever play again?

Are Dyer, Oakley, King & Weso going to be consistent enough in the Champ? I have doubts.

Are any of our strikers good enough for the Championship? Lots of arguments here but past performances & age suggest no.

6 players could include the unannounced signings of Hobbs & Brown  That "could" leave us with 4 players to cover the above missing list.

Obviously we could get in loans which may not be included in the 6 players we are "looking for". However if this regimes past public announcements are anything to go by then we will be expecting 6 players who all include this seasons loans.

We need 2 goalkeepers, poss 1 perm & 1 on loan.

We need 2 Right backs, poss 1 perm & 1 on loan.

We need a better more consistent player than Oakley in midfield, if he goes missing in L1 what will happen in the Championship?

We need a player who has scored Fryatt's goals this season for next season in the Championship. Is Fryatt that man? I doubt it to be honest, but he deserves a go & a more mobile Howard replacement, Steve is good but is limited!

In short 6 players, they are having a laugh, I think 9 minimum. It is going to be an interesting pre season again.

Thought we were getting more, but you never know  As someone said it depends on what 'new' is.

Goalkeeper's then. David Stockdale? David Martin? Lee Camp? Lewis Price? Shane Supple? Joe Lewis?

Centre backs. Jack Hobbs? Wayne Brown?

Right back, not sure about Gilbert, but he is and should be quite good at that level. He did play for Cardiff didn't he. And I cannot think about any more right backs. Frank Simek? Thats who I always go for on FM.

Midfielders, why not go for Nathan Dyer as mentioned? Andrew Surman? Zheng Zhi? Peter Leven? Chris Taylor?

Strikers, no clue what so ever. Grezgorz Rasiak? Andy Bishop? Rickie Lambert? Stern John? Marek Sagnowski?

If i was nige i would look at the promising players from league 1, surely he has been looking

Rickie Lambert

Chris Taylor

Joe Lewis

Leven(MK dons midfeilder)

Also i would think Nige needs to sign some of the loanees

Jack Hobbs

Wayne Brown

Kearea Gilbert

Tom Cleverly

David Martin

Also i think Nige should use his shouthampton connections to get some of their top stars

Andrew Surmen

Bradley-WrightPhilips

Marek Sagnowski

Nathen Dyer

Also the other teams going down, they have some good players

Sheverly (Charlton)

Also free agents so lots of options think though it would take three years to go up, dont know where Milan got a year from? :giggle:

If it is only 6 signings we will not sign left back cover. Mattock and Berner cover that position fine and we can use Dyer there if needs must. He started his career at left back and I thought he played well there the one game he had at the start of the season. (Levi's last game for the club)

We will surely have to sign two goalkeepers, including one who is willing to sit on the bench. Expect a young kid with an old guy as back up to tutor him and get his badges. You don't really want competition at GK because keepers don't get injured or suspended very often, so the 2nd choice has a lot of bench time.

Right back is a priority and Gilbert the obvious candidate. He has played well and seemed to enjoy his time here. Hopefully Arsenal will not want too much in the way of a fee, because in terms of ability I wouldn't want to spend over 500k.

The idea that squads need 4 strikers is ridiculous. None of the top clubs have 4 strikers and they play 70 games a season. Remember when Tottenham had Bent, Berbatov, Keane and Defoe? There is just no way to keep them all happy! What you need is 3 good strikers that all offer different things, and one youth team player/elder statesman who is willing to take some bench time and play the occaisional cup game. I think in our case a mobile target man is key. Howard will not be able to cope with playing 42 Championship games and will be considerably less effective in a division full of centre backs that can head high balls all day long. We also need to be able to play with one up top from time to time when we play against 5 man midfields, something we can't do with Fryatt or Howard.

Rickie Lambert is a very good shout but I think there will be a few in for him.

A winger that can play either side. Both Dyer and Gradel showed that they have ability this season, but equally that they can lose form. Somebody who is of their standard or better would be lovely. I would actually prefer a right sided player because I want to see Maxi from the left.

A central midfielder is also vital. Oakley had to play through the pain barrier this season and isn't getting any younger. I would not back Clemence to play professional again at his age. If only a clone of Mark Davies was available.

Thinking about it we really must be talking about Brown and Hobbs plus six. (Unless Season long loans don't count) I don't think there is anyway we could contemplate going into the season without filling the above positions with Championship quality.

Clemence is actually six months younger than Oakley.

Not sure if Weso will come back from Dundee U.

it seems interesting that pretty much every name thrown into the hat has been a british based player...

don't be too surprised if some eastern european turns up, i imagine the sort of stirker we need, one who can hold up the ball etc, can be found pretty cheap in the eastern blok.

Also no one has mentioned Astrit - given the fact that nigel 'no subs' pearson has actually given him time, he looks liekly to stay, he certainly seems to be settled in here - i assume he isn't permanent yet... by all accounts he could be the kind of midfielder who can hold the ball up and spray it around....

Everytime ive seen him play, he has made some howlers and been garbage, although being picked for the england squad must mean he has some talent
