Been listening to a lot of late 80's music recently, what a great time.

Particular favourites: Disintegration by the Cure, Doolittle by Pixies, Heaven of Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic by the Sundays, The Stone Roses and of course Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk.

Probably the best Christmas album of all time.

Too busy listening to this - and I’m not remotely sorry

Yeah it just started to turn after the complete dross of the mid 80's (smiths aside).

Mekons, Len Bright Combo, Pogues, Men They Couldn't Hang, The Fall, That Petrol Emotion, Jesus & Mary Chain, Steve Earle, Nanci Griffith, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Rockers Revenge, This Mortal Coil, Cyndi Lauper, Gregory Isaacs, Thomas Mapfumo, Soft Cell, Wedding Present, Age of Chance, Echo & Bunnymen, Wah!, Shop Assistants, Shrubs, Stump, 3 Johns, Half Man Half Biscuit, Fuzzbox, Flatmates, Jason & The Scorchers.....even The Cure and Cocteau Twins were around by the mid-80s.

Granted, there was a lot of dross in the charts, as always, but there was also a lot of good stuff, popular and less popular. Just for starters, every single one of the above artistes were better than the OK but over-rated Smiths....
