Michael Jackson

They were wondering on BBC Breakfast what sort of tribute, if any, Jarvis Cocker will pay to him at Glastonbury, as a lot of other artists are planning covers etc.

I still love the early Jackson 5 stuff, but I've never really had any interest in him as a solo artist. My brother had Thriller on cassette when it came out, and it always got on my tits. I quite liked that one he did with Paul McCartney though.

I've heard that Bubbles is going to honour the O2 dates. Now that I'd pay to see

I hope Exeter City will hold a minute's silence for him at their first game of the season. After all, he was briefly on their board of directors wasn't he?

Along with Uri Geller.

I remember when the Thriller single was released in 1982.

I was 19 and doing the usual Friday night booze-up in Rugby town centre. Channel 4 were going to premiere the video to Thriller at 11.00pm, just before Terry Christian and Dani Behr's The Word.

By 10.30 the town was practically empty. It was amazing, everyone just went home to watch it. This was when music videos were in their infancy and pubs didn't have televisions.

RIP - a musical genius but a bit cranky with it.

Having read through the last 9 pages, it's very sad that some remember only the last few years of Michael Jackson's life.

I'm not disputing that he lived a controversial life. As it's already been said, thrust into the spotlight at the age of 5, and having so many adoring fans would take it's toll on anyone. He was acquitted in a court of law and deserves the same treatment as anyone in that situation.

I would suggest that a lot of the negativity is down to some posters young age - not knowing the genius he was. Have a look on you tube at Thriller, the most iconic pop video that will probably be ever made. That helped change MTV.

Then have a look at Billie Jean or Smooth Criminal. You will start to understand why his has been given the title 'King of Pop'.

I was fortunate enough to see him at Wembley twice (his 'Bad' & 'History' tours). Of all the concerts I have seen, he will remain the most spectacular to watch.

I will mourn his death, the passing of one of the most famous people on the planet. RIP.

I doubt many other people in music had the impact on as many peoples lives as he did, probably the biggest music star there ever was or ever will be.

Just a shame as usual on here you always get people who have to come and talk down on him in a thread thats meant to be respectful towards his death.

But fuck um, RIP Mickey J.

who's going to feed bubbles ????

He got rid of Bubbles ages ago, when he became big and less cute. Maybe Bubbles took exception to some of his master's lifestyle choices. He could be dead too for all I know

Man In The Mirror.

What a song!!

True. My girlfriend's favourite ever song, no less.

When the key changes at the exact moment he says "make a... change" always brings a smile to my face.

He has to pull a moonie, surely

Without Michael Jackson, we wouldn't have had the classic line "And I want to moonwalk sonny but life's a sh*thouse" by Brian Potter (Phoenix Nights)

He's a true legend and cannot be replaced, I don't care about all his personal issues the media just had it in for him, rest in peace MJ!

Probably the most talented person to ever grace the planet, he touched so many lives and will be sadly missed. His legacy will live on. He is a legend. Sympathy to his family and friends. Rest In Peace :(

Just woke up. There'll inevitably be jokes and I'll inevitably laugh at them but I always found Jacko to be an immensely sad case, really.

Without a doubt a phenomenally gifted individual - I don't know anyone that can't name a single one of his songs they like. Smooth Criminal and Beat It are personal favourites, awesome, awesome songs.

The world should have realised long, long ago that he was a seriously sick and troubled individual and done far more to try and help. Classic example of the media just butchering someone for a story.

Well you pulled off looking a cunt to perfection.

Come off it, Pretty good singer in the right place right time to start his career. He then gets some horrible surgery and looks like a twat, then he starts abusing children.
