Raj Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 Michael Jackson achieved a lot, fair enough. Diana was a nice lady who married well (or not), Jade Goody wasn't even that. Coverage of celebrity deaths has very little to do with achievement even when it should, and far more to do with point-and-stare voyeurism and misplaced sentimentality. Like you said...P Di MARRIED into fame/then became a really nice lady,JG was a nothing BUT MJ was a LEGEND! Im not going into debate about how people should react to his death. Some people wont give a fcuk and that fair enough.
Jimmy Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 plenty of jokes but thought I'd post a youtube of him at his best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xs9OQHpwDE
martyn Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 What's the difference between Alex Ferguson and Michael Jackson? Ferguson will still be playing Giggs in August. My apologies.
Guest Bilo Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 Michael Jackson achieved a lot, fair enough. Diana was a nice lady who married well (or not), Jade Goody wasn't even that. Coverage of celebrity deaths has very little to do with achievement even when it should, and far more to do with point-and-stare voyeurism and misplaced sentimentality. This is the problem. The wall-to-wall coverage that the rolling news channels reserve for the deaths of Z list 'celebs' have cheapened the effect when they extend the same to people like Jackson who do deserve to have their passing marked with more than the average news flash. When Diana died, this culture was nothing like as prevalent, and the wall-to-wall coverage made it seem like the historical event it was. 12 years on, the public are rather more cynical about such reporting because it is so overused.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 Is anyone watching news 24? Did you just see a 2 second clip of Jacko taking a microphone! (It was a brief "what the" moment for me!) There is no doubt going to be countless programmes and tributes about the guy, I just hope that they concentrate more on the good side than the, shall we say other side. Sad news, shame he didn't end up making his come back, but hopefully his legend will live on. Edit: They've done it again, but for longer! It's like he's having a press confrence, in what looks like hell due to the red background. At least they got his name right at the front.
foxoffderby Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 He was the Greatest in his field. I grew up listening to him. I will never forget watching the complete Thriller video as a child on channel 4 late one night in the 80's as an 8 or 9 year old. Never seen anything like it. I remember buying Off the Wall and Thriller listentening to it over and over again. I had 4 tickets for 02 and I was going to take my wife son and sister to see him. Im not really bothered about missing the concert I would rather he be alive. Death puts everything into perspective and shows us what a short period we are ALL here for. For that reason alone weather people are fans or not we shouldn't mock anyones passing, as some people have done on this site. One day we will all lose someone close to us. Everybody thinks they are invincible, sadly its not the case including ourselves. The words legend and icon are too commonly used to describe people. This guy actully was the real deal. RIP Michael Jackson my thoughts are with your family.
Jimmy Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 http://twitpic.com/8et2f what Perez Hilton said before he edited it
Nod.E Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 I just wish he died of skin cancer. If he did, in hindsight, he'd have to blame it on the sunshine. I would rant about this, but to be honest I got so pissed off with facebook statusii, that I made my own sarcastic status, and then made my thoughts clear to those who couldn't understand that 'MICHAEL JACKSON IS DYING OF AIDS' is a sarcastic way of saying I will not jump on this ridiculous 'RIP MICHAEL, I LOVE YOU' bandwagon. As a result I really can't be bothered to talk about this any more. To avoid a waste of time and repeats, see posts by flynny on the subject.
Libertine Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 As a result I really can't be bothered to talk about this any more. Don't then. Not hard.
Joe. Posted 25 June 2009 Posted 25 June 2009 Unbelievable, couldn't believe it when I heard. One of the great musicians and performers to have ever graced this planet, and he should be remembered for this rather than his later problems which so unfortunately tarnished his career. One of, if not the best musical artists of all time. R.I.P.
WardyisPukka Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 Wasnt the greatest singer but maybe he has been the best pop dancer ever , some of his moves were simply unbelievable
Libertine Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 Wasnt the greatest singer but maybe he has been the best pop dancer ever , some of his moves were simply unbelievable People seem to forget that he had a great voice. At some points of his career anyway.
Matt Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 Dunno if i'm the first to say this, but SORRY DAGGERS. RIP. Oh No! That'll make me unpopular with Daggers for using the internet to pay respects and say RIP to someone.
Koke Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 He's just a bloke at the end of the day. It's a big story, sure, but I know this sounds horribly wanky and preachy, it is, I guess, but of all the shit that goes on all over the world the death of an entertainer seems a horribly shallow thing to fixate on, especially for as long as will inevitably happen. I do concur. At the end of the day he was just a bloke who was bloody good in his field and entertained a lot of people across the world, including myself. But people have a weird sense of placing priority on the lives of others. All those extreme fans of his who will be crying their eyes out for him are a bunch of tits. Jackson had no bearing on their existence and had no bearing on their life whatsoever, and they should re-consider their priorities - and I never knew he died until I logged on Facebook a few minutes ago to see 25 status updates about him. Running 24 hour news for him is just absurd - but sad news and rest in peace, Michael.

I found out in the pub at the end of a pub quiz, the DJ said "Oh and some sad news, we've just had a call Micheal Jackson has died"...And I was waiting for some kind of punch line, The whole put just gasped, It's crazy, I can't quite believe it. Once again RIP.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 A statement has been realeased that Michael Jackson body will be melted down to make plastic toys, so kids can finally play with him for a change.
Unabomber Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 A statement has been realeased that Michael Jackson body will be melted down to make plastic toys, so kids can finally play with him. If you are going to try and make a Michael Jackson related joke at least make it a decent effort.
Tevez Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 I don't know what's more plastic... Micheal jackson or Mk dons. An oddball but turned out to be a musical great, loved his music but let's face it he wasn't going to do that english tour.
Dan Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 A statement has been realeased that Michael Jackson body will be melted down to make plastic toys, so kids can finally play with him for a change. Haha, he hasn't been this stiff since he was babysitting I best stop.
BoneDog Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 If it's true, then RIP to surely the greatest pop star of all time. Same as above. The greatest, no-one (above 25) can say they haven't loved Michaels songs. A true artist. Respect to Michael
BoneDog Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 This is eerily reminiscent of the way Elvis went.Jacko was probably the only star to reach Elvis's level. Bang on. His music weren't the same quality in the last 10 years but everything back in the days was pure quality. He could sing and perform to the best of standards
BoneDog Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 How can you call this horrible news? He is a kiddy fiddling **** and I hope he suffered when he died the twat.Great news. You're a nobhead. A soft in the head pussio. And if you wanna prove you aint, then I'm not hard to find. I push a blonde lady in a wheelchair at Leicester matches home and away. I've always got a stupid hat on. We can get busy on the concrete floor like grown men do. You might win, you might not, I dont give a shit as long as I poke your eyes out first. I've been through the lot kidda and you aint gonna bring oat new so forget it. Don't believe everything you hear on the tele. Some man get smeared in the media when in reality they not bad at all.
BoneDog Posted 26 June 2009 Posted 26 June 2009 http://twitpic.com/8et2fwhat Perez Hilton said before he edited it Most folk know Perez is the biggest nob around. Not literally. I never heard of him til the other day when he got banged in the eye and made a massive delirious video about it! (I only found out about it cos it poped up on youtube when i went on). That was some funny stuff, but I'm suprised he hasn't had more damage done to him from the sounds of what he says about people. He sounds like a disrespect merchant of the highest order. His video was hilarious ..." I'VE NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN TO ME BEFORE, THIS IS HOW PEOPLE DIE AH AH AH AH AH". WHat, by getting punched in the eye?! He is the true definition of drama queen.
