Guest ttfn Posted 27 June 2009 Posted 27 June 2009 You are either pissed, on the wind-up or one of the biggest cunts in the history of FT. Are you 12?I mean, seriously, fuck off: has "normal" news just passed you by for the last 'couple of years'? Exactly my point. The nature of news is that anything routine is not a big story. It never is. This was totally unexpected and therefore huge In the last 3 years, what has been a bigger news story? I'm not saying it should be. Evidently your usual ridiculous jumping to conclusions has come to the fore again. There are wars going on, terrorism, scientists fighting cancer. Congratulations on spotting that, I'm surprised you managed to transmit your message through to me from all the way up there on your high horse. The fact is that these things are not news after a certain point. This is massive news. Few saw it coming. Much in the same way that Princess Diana's death was the biggest news story of its age because of the shock factor, so is this. As I said, this is the nature of the beast. Again, I challenge you - in fact anybody on here, to name a bigger news story in the last 3 years.
Flynny Posted 27 June 2009 Posted 27 June 2009 Again, I challenge you - in fact anybody on here, to name a bigger news story in the last 3 years. Obama elected.

maddog Posted 27 June 2009 Posted 27 June 2009 He has 44 songs in the top 100 singles on itunes, including man in the mirror at number 2. Has knocked all but Kasabian out of the top 10 of the album charts. And has 37 videos in the top 50 of the videos chart. His music is everywhere now, in pubs, on all radio stations, you can't buy this kind of publicity. His concerts may have flopped, and the media may have crucified him further, or they could have been the greatest ever seen and he could have gone out with a real bang. Nice to know his unfortunate demise has bought his music to millions of other people. He will be remembered for his music, as this clear wave of support in the UK shows with all his songs, albums and videos being downloaded. Expect to see him dominate chart music for the next couple of weeks at least. Quality.
AoWW Posted 27 June 2009 Posted 27 June 2009 I just struggle to care, to be honest. He wasn't someone I knew personally or had any real connection to. Yes, I respect his contribution to the music industry, but that's as far as it goes. If that makes me shockingly hard-hearted, then so be it.
ACF Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I find it ironic that the man $600 million in debt, due to make a comeback to repay the debts, has made the greatest comeback in the form of death. The iTunes charts say it all, millions of songs and videos being sold, and all this money will go back to the family to pay off the debts, and then some....
Nod.E Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I just struggle to care, to be honest. He wasn't someone I knew personally or had any real connection to. Yes, I respect his contribution to the music industry, but that's as far as it goes. If that makes me shockingly hard-hearted, then so be it. Precisely. As for those MJ lovers on that site Kareem linked - oh dear. I'm also in full agreement of how it's false that when people die, history get brushed under the carpet, and you get crucified for bringing it up. I've always said 'isn't it funny how no-one bad ever dies?' Every obituary says how the person in question was a 'lovely lad/girl' Why lie, really?
Guest ttfn Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Jade DeadMaddie vanished Bird flu pig flu cat flu chop suey MP's expenses claims Ash17nocheese's claims that Oasis are bigger than Pringles Surely you're joking. The Obama election I may give you (whoever came up with that). I hope I've clarified my stance.

Woolworths The ecpnomic downturn The collaspe of RBS, Northern rock etc etc The election of Obama Iran and it's spacestation Serbia independence Pheleps medal haul at the Olympics 2007 Bird Flue Microsoft release Windows Vista and Office 2007 Sudan floods UK floods The release of the final Harry Potter book HM customs misplacing a load of computer records 2006 Release of the Blu ray disc Google buys Youtube Korea and it's Nuclear testing Release of the Playstation 3 Release of the Nintendo Wii Ipswich murder investigations The execution of Saddam Hussein Micheal Jackson was one person, who's music was very impactful on the industry as a whole. He is one person though, with reports surfacing that he's potetially died of some form of an overdose, I find it hard to feel sorry for him. His chequered past which for me he never did enough to clear his name, paying people off doesn't put out the fires but rather ignites it with petrol. I've enjoyed his music but I shall not personally mourn his loss and find it difficult to understand anyone that does if I'm totally honest!! This situation is no different from any other death really. It's been on the cards for a while if you actually listen to the news and read between the lines of what people are saying.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Death, even that of a celebrity, still means someone will never be able to see someone they care about ever again. Think what you like about the media, or people interested in celebrity, but why do some people have to try to balance that out by declaring that they are uncaring? You're still adding to opinion on the subject. I'm sure there are a lot of cases where people have led similarly troubled lives to Michael Jackson without being even remotely famous, and I'd be desperately sad for them too if I ever heard about them. Regardless of his latter years, seeing pictures in the paper of that little kid from the Jackson Five, he deserves to be mourned as much as anyone who has given that much happiness to so many people.
Daggers Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Surely you're joking. No I'm not. Global economic crisis and the sub-prime market The nationalisation of banking entities Corrupt politicians and expense claims The quest for the Higgs-Boson particle and the inauguration of the hadron collider The Presidential election and ongoing crisis in Zimbabwe The release of Ingrid Betancour The downing of the flight from Brazil to France Swine flu pandemic hysterics Thailand's two States of Emergency and a coup d'etat Ongoing terrorist acts in Pakistan Israel and the Gaza strip Somalian war The rise of shipping piracy The ongoing fight against digital piracy Iraq Iranian elections Bird flu North Korea nuclear tests Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows launch ...to but scratch the surface. Just because it may be important to you and some people in america and here doesn't mean that it figures above the "loud dog fart" news feature on TV Korea. If you had said that it is occupying a disproportionate time during British television programming schedules then I'd conceed you are right...but biggest news story? Nonsense.
Sly Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I see your point and to a point I understand what your saying. I just think people have different ways of looking at things. He was not the same person from the mid 90's onwards as he was in the Jacksons and even when he went mainstream as a singles artist. That's the artist people connected with, not the name we've seen for the past 10 - 15 years. He's obviosuly lead a troubled life and the media have added to that as he's been in the spotlight since he was about 10 years old, in many ways he's a fallen angel. Will we ever see someone as impactful on the music industry? Maybe not as I think he pushed the bar to a level that can only be matched now. Or did he just take everything to a level which we now expect to see?
BlabyFox Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Have you seen the daily mail today? first 12 pages on jackson. I hope people forget about this quickly and just let him RIP. Imo apart from thriller he was shit anyway. Except smooth criminal (but alien ant farm versions a lot better anyway).
MikeyT Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I got invited to one of these "R.I.P. Michael Jackson" groups on Facebook (of which i ignored) and one of the topics someone had started was "Is Michael Jackson's Death A Bigger Tragedy Than 9/11?". I honestly can't believe how mind numbingly stupid people are!! There were some moronic idiot's that were saying that Jacko's death was more of a tragedy!!! I'm amazed at how stupid some people in the world have become...and quite frankly worried that people do think it's worse than 9/11.

Stevosevic Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 The number of brilliant songs this man had is crazy, even ones that were not even released. Hope his family are able to grieve with privacy.

davieG Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I Get a PM telling me to watch my language but this post stays on this thread!! What a joke. Perhaps you should give admin/mods time to respond. And you responding to it just duplicates it draws attention to it as well as making it more time consuming to take action. It's now been moved to the joke thread with all the other sicko stuff.
Kilworthfox Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 He was a fruitloop! Then again what do you expect a 5 year old child to end up like after living his life with the pressures and spotlight that he did. IMO There are x2 Michael Jacksons, the black one who everyone will choose to remember for his great music and super stardom. Then there is the white crazy ass mofo with the allegations, baby swinging balcony and less popular music. This episode effects my life in no way what so ever & it effects no one else outside of his family so any discussion with any worth can only be on how society should change the way that some people who are thrust into stardom when in a vulnerable state are presented and publicised without their best interests being catered for. Its all about the money & he was a victim who could not possibly have a normal life.
