Messi Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Looks like their going to complete the signings of Tevez and Eto'o in the week, just wondering how you feel about whether they can break into the top four etc. With a possible starting line up like below and say a couple more descent defenders then i dont see why not <_< -----------------------------------------Given --------------------------Richards------Dunne------Bridge -----------------------------Barry------------------Ireland -------------Wright-Phillips---------------------------------Robinho -----------------------------------------Tevez ------------------------------Santa Cruz--------Eto'o
C-man Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 They need to buy a world class defender or two, or they might just have to settle for being the English Real Madrid.
Anish Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 With that formation they'd get ripped apart through the middle. No defensive midfielders (Barry isn't the bulldog in the middle that some make out) and Dunne and Richards aren't particularly great either. Bridge as a centre back is just silly. They really need to sign some proper defenders.
Cobbo Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 That team would get pulled apart by any decent attacking side. Going forward it is pretty awesome mind you. Ruining Ireland playing him as a holding midfielder.
Tevez Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 With that formation they'd get ripped apart through the middle. No defensive midfielders (Barry isn't the bulldog in the middle that some make out) and Dunne and Richards aren't particularly great either. Bridge as a centre back is just silly. They really need to sign some proper defenders. I swear Wayne Bridge has played centre half before.
GLC Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Given Richards *new defender* Kompany De Jong Barry Ireland Robinho Eto'o Tevez Santa Cruz Something like this?
Kilworthfox Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I think they will do very well next season, top 6 at least! Look at their squad rather than a best 11 1st team. Given Hart Taylor Schmeichel Bridge Richards Onuoha Ben Haim Garrido Dunne - Don't rate him personally Ball Zabaleta Johnson Ireland Barry Elano Petrov - De Jong Kompany Fernandes Wright Phillips Robinho Santa Cruz Bellamy Caciedo - Not up to it IMO Benjani Evans - Will Prob go Jo Bojinov vassell - Will prob go "If" they manage to get in E'too & Tevez they will have enormous fire power Champs League worthy! However the defence needs looking at and a good holding midfielder so Ireland can cover the pitch which he is excellent at. Exciting times with endless £££
Koke Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Time for Arsenal to pull their finger out and start pulling their weight.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I honestly can't see Man City breaking the top four, their defence and midfield I dont think is strong enough to contend with Chelsea, Liverpool or United and Arsenal will take the fourth spot. They are strongly linked with Eto'o and Tevez and they have just brought Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz must feel like a really important signing now.
Father Ted Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 IMO them and Real Madrid are on the verge of ruining football.
dandannieldanok Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 As people have already said, they definitely need a top-class defender, otherwise it's looking good.
Edmund Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I read they were looking to buy Lescott for around 16 million. They were also thinking about using richards as part of the swap. Good deal for Everton.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Stephen Ireland is the best player in that XI.
dandannieldanok Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Stephen Ireland is the best player in that XI. I hope he doesn't prove to be a one-hit wonder, played superbly last season.
Sparky Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 Given Richards *new defender* Kompany De Jong Barry Ireland Robinho Eto'o Tevez Santa Cruz Something like this? Finners will be claiming them 2 as welsh if you put it like that
Mikey Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 De Jong? Really? What's wrong with De Jong? Quality player.
Edmund Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I also wonder if Martin Petrov will still get a look in. He had one hell of a shot.
Blue Foxes Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 I feel a bit sorry for Craig Bellamy, what choice will he be if they do get Tevez and Eto'o?
AjcW Posted 28 June 2009 Posted 28 June 2009 --------------------------------------------------Given --------------------------New RB------Richards------ New CB------Bridge ----------------------------------------Barry--------- De Jong----------------------- ------------------------------------------------Ireland-------------------------------- ------------------Eto'o----------------------Santa Cruz----------------------Robinho---- Subs: Wright Phillips Taylor Dunne Onouha Bellendamy Kompany Petrov.

Think Onouha could still well have a place in that defence but apart from that.....
