SystonFox Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 struggle - no but the more poeple on here post of top 6 finishes the worse i feel about the season. a top 12 is achievable but i could list 12 other teams who player for player (first 11s) are better than us and could finish above. we have a tough start to the campaign too i feel, swansea home not easy and two away trips to teams who should and could finish in the top 6 will not be easy. at the same time i dont feel we will be relegation fodder.
Bluefoxtim Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Can't say i'm too optimistic, mainly due to the lack of signings. Although having said that, wholesale changes haven't exactly worked in previous years!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I will be more impressed when we have a striker.
Dames Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Lack of decent goal keepers and our strike force worries me slightly. Although we will be hard to beat we won't take to many hammerings, lose a few, draw a bucket load and notch up a few 1 goal wins. We'll finish about 15. We'll never be in any serious danger of relegation we'll just seem to hover in the lower half of midtable.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I can't see you struggling much this season, there are numerous teams out there that you are better than, some that we are better than aswell. Anyway, hope you do stay up without much of a problem, we want to play you next year ;-)
Rocky Dennis Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Not enough 'proven quality' signings! I think we'll def struggle.
JoeyB Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 i think our defence and midfield will be solid, but we just need to sign a striker that will score us enough goals. Although i think that Fryatt will have a good season.
Flynny Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Teams that do will in this division, especially the ones that stay up, have a lot of physical presence. I think that's why we've signed people like Wellens, to beef us up a bit, but I still don't think we're really a particularly strong team in that regard. Other teams that do well play really, really good football, and we don't have the players for that. I don't think we'll struggle, but I don't think we'll do as well as some people think, and if we got lucky and somehow went up this season it'd end up being a disaster.
willchafer Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 i feel about 11th is where we will come and with our new signings we have a lot of impact subs and replacements that wont majorly effect us if we have injury doubts
maddog Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 struggle - nobut the more poeple on here post of top 6 finishes the worse i feel about the season. a top 12 is achievable but i could list 12 other teams who player for player (first 11s) are better than us and could finish above. we have a tough start to the campaign too i feel, swansea home not easy and two away trips to teams who should and could finish in the top 6 will not be easy. at the same time i dont feel we will be relegation fodder. Top 10 should be our definite aim with a chance of a playoff place going into the last few games of the season. Unless we sign a couple of strikers though i can see another relegation battle.
davieG Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 The team's no where near complete yet, I'd imagine at least 3/4 loanees will enter the fray at some point soon as well as at least one permanent striker.
Fox92 Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I am not to confident with the lack of signings and the quality of players that have come in. Most probably need another goalkeeper. Weale was back up at Bristol City, has been out at Yeovil and Hereford and is deemed good enough for Leicester City. Logan has been surpless to requirements and wasn't needed last year, and all of a sudden he is the back up goalkeeper. Nothing wrong with the defence, Hobbs, Tunchev and Morrison are quality as well as Brown who has played in a promted team with Hull. The midfield is fine. Worried about the wingers, don't think that Gradel, N'Guessen or Dyer will be good enough although their pace may be key. 110% worried with the strikers. Obviousley DJ Campbell isn't wanted because he is rubbish, Dickov is to old now although he may do a job of winding up the opposite players leading to a goal or two or a sending off or two and I don't think Howard will score to many. Have confidence in Fryatt, ecspecially with him scoring so much in League 1 his confidence may be sky high and with him scoring yesterday shows he may be essential for our relegation battle or promotion push whatever it is. Overall I am not confident and think we will struggle in the division, ecspecially against teams like Sheffield United/Ipswich/Newcastle/Middlesborough etc. Best signing for me is Richie Wellens who is one of the divisions most creative midfielders; something that I think we have missed for the past years in that division. But hopefully, prove me wrong as well Leicester! Come on! & sign at least two more 'quality' strikers
Guest Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I am getting pissed off with people banging on about Weale being back up. Have you not seen the quality of keeper ahead of him at Brizzle City?
lou Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I am getting pissed off with people banging on about Weale being back up. Have you not seen the quality of keeper ahead of him at Brizzle City? Nothing like giving the bloke the chance to prove himself eh?
Guest Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Nothing like giving the bloke the chance to prove himself eh? Exactly, and what I've seen so far hasn't left me panicking for more cover.
Bryn Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I do not understand what the issue is with Weale, I really don't. He's an excellent keeper, I've watched him since Hull were coming up the league when he was at Yeovil and he is sound. He was injured a bit and was behind Basso who was ace, that is all. Sooner him than Stockdale, sooner him than Martin. And if mine and Lisa's comments aren't enough, how about the fact that Pearson and Walsh went straight for him when in all honesty, compared to other positions the goalkeeper market is saturated right now. EDIT: Basso was good, not injured.
Cobbo Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Don't talk to me about play offs - talk to me about the top 2. I'm not interested in play offs.
dandannieldanok Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 All signs point to us struggling to score like has been the norm for us in this league for a few years.
ousefox Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I think our team at the moment is just about good enough to compete for a mid-table place. If we add a quality new striker we could possibly push further.
richardsfoxes Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Too early to say, defently need a striker who can score goals in this league as unfortnately Fryatts record in the championship isnt the best, but im hoping he will prove me and other wrong. Defence looks quite solid, the midfield looks an exciting prospect tbh, lets see who Nigel chooses in that department. Although it was a Pre-Season game against Valladid i thought our fitness looked awful, looked like we were in our first week of pre season instead of last. Lets see what happens
Corky Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I am getting pissed off with people banging on about Weale being back up. Have you not seen the quality of keeper ahead of him at Brizzle City? From what I saw yesterday, he looks more than capable of doing a competent job in goal for us.
Salieri Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 There is optimism around, just not much on here! I've read in a couple of places that we are a good each way bet for promotion (think NOTW was one of them). Plus (and don't laugh) it read on teletext sports betting pages that Fryatt was an excellent bet at around 25/1 to be the divisions top scorer (stop laughing maddog!). Personally, i think we will do okay, finish around midtable with few goals scored and few conceded. May not be the most exciting season ever, but, i may be wrong of course and we might storm the league!
