CKB Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 If the Merc says £2m, it's definitely not £2m. True! probs 20p and a pack of mints
Basingstoke Fox Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 All I care about is getting a decent amount of money for him. His transfer value has probably gone down in the eyes of the other chairman because of the transfer request and if we don't HAVE to sell him so I hope that we will wait until we get at least 2-2.5 million for him. Just because he wants to leave doesn't mean we should sell him. I was surprised that he handed in a transfer request but not completely shocked. The only stupid thing is that Forest were mentioned and if he left us to go to them then that would be a joke. I know that forest have made some very good signings and I think they will be in the top 10 but in a years time we will quite possible be in the same situation. I just hope that Mattock moves and it turns out to be the wrong move for him.
Fox92 Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Whether it is 1million or 2million, depending on which paper you go with or which one is possible true, it is a good deal and a great transfer to whicever club he goes to. Joe is a good left back, and a big potential and if it is 2million max thats a good deal, but not on our behalf and I bet Nigel won't get 1 pence of it. So dissapointed that he has handed his transfer request in so near to the new season. Very dissapointed indeed but if he wants to go, what is the point in having him here? Whether he is on the largest wage or the smallest wage at the club he is still wasting away the money and if he don't wanna be here, he isn't going to try 100% surely. I would be dissapointed if it was 1-2million though I think.
Joe. Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 I would be dissapointed if it was 1-2million though I think. Why? He's not worth anymore than that. Potential's nothing if you can't live up to it.
Munzie Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Not fussed in losing him in the slightest, providing whatever fee we get is put to good use in bringing in new blood (preferably those with an eye for goal). Powell and Berner are more than capable of fulfilling the role. Even a young loan signing could be on the cards Although one of the favourites for a Prem return, the Baggies have an awful lot of work to do to get out of this league. I can't see Mattock filling Robinsons shoes. Could be a weak link for them.
Joe. Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Neither Berner or Powell are long-term solutions for me. Powell's already said he only really wants to play if he has to, and Berner will be exposed at the back just as much as Mattock. Plus Berner doesn't have the advantage of youth on his side, and getting forward could be a problem. We need another left-back on loan I think, and then use some of the cash from Mattock to secure an adequate Championship striker.
Fox92 Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Why? He's not worth anymore than that. Potential's nothing if you can't live up to it. I thought we could have at least got a bit more for him if he was to go at that price. He has fantastic potential to be contender for Englands next left back after Ashley Cole. Joe might not have had a good season last year in League 1 but that's it. Most games last year he was steady and solid, he most probably had a few odd games but no more and what footballer doesn't have that? Remember he is only 19 years old so he is still learning and developing even if he plays in the first team. He has a natural left foot, something that you don't find these days, and he is decent with his right foot as well - his goal against Yeovil was via his right foot - he gets stuck in and he can tackle, he is quite big and is a good header of the ball and he can strike a football too. His passing ability is ok and he has a decent first touch. Now, Joe Mattock handed in a transfer request and has certainly gone down in my book perhaps like in your's but he has fantastic potential and 1-2million is nothing these days.

kam6 Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 i think that Bruno Berner looks a lot more solid when he played at LB, and also when called upon in midfield. Powell will not want to play unless he has to, as mentioned before. linked to ryan mcgivern from man city, he was linked a few weeks back, so maybe Nigel know something about mattcock then!?
Fox92 Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Berner and Powell are no long term left backs for me either. As above, Berner will be exposed ecspecially by the more faster winger and he will not bomb down the left like Mattock did/would/could/should. I always seem to think that Berner fouls more as well. As for Powell, he ain't gunna do much is he?. He could do a job of sitting in at left back and his expirience could be vital but he won't bomb down the left either. I think we either need a younger left back or one in on loan. Prefer Bruno sitting in midfield, just in front of the defence if anything. i think that Bruno Berner looks a lot more solid when he played at LB, and also when called upon in midfield.Powell will not want to play unless he has to, as mentioned before. linked to ryan mcgivern from man city, he was linked a few weeks back, so maybe Nigel know something about mattcock then!? Most probably seeing as Mattock also put a transfer request in last season!
Wycombe Fox Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 My nipper's a naturally left-footed left-back. He's playing for AFC Bournemouth against a Belgian side next Saturday. Maybe NP should send a scout down. Is 12 too young?

AMYB101_LCFC Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 great post---it's actually quite comical that some posters have reposted in the thread, saying he is a c***, i mean do they really need to post their opinion in this thread 2, 3 or even 4 times.... wow, wouldn't have had you down as a spinal tap fan - or has this just filtered into everyday speak? What the f*** is spinal tap? I'd say it was just everyday speak, it's just summat me and me dad say to each a lot.
ronnup Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Surely Baggies have got a spare striker we can wrangle in to this deal. Ishmael Miller anyone?
Joe. Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Surely Baggies have got a spare striker we can wrangle in to this deal. Ishmael Miller anyone? He's their best according to Baggies fans. He's only not been playing recently through injuries...
Shane Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Surely Baggies have got a spare striker we can wrangle in to this deal. Ishmael Miller anyone? I swear hes injured?
MPH Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 This mornings mercury is saying 2 million. well i think it said that it could earn us UPTO 2m.. which suggests a lower fee up front and then bonuses for promotion and him making the full england team, ect... and having slept on it, 2m for a lb in the last year of his contract and wasnt a regular in a team playing in the 1st division is actually quite a good deal...
CupidStunt Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 I am not that bothered about him leaving Of the few times i have seen him play, i wouldnt have singled him out to be a fantastic player, in fact, i think i saw him have more bad games than good, would liked to have kept him, but no biggie either way And as for him phoning Mandaric asking for a transfer behind NP's back when we were playing a friendly and he was on international duty.......thats just fecking stupid

What Joe said. A left back such as McGivern or Ryan Bertrand (if he hasn't gone anywhere). As for the Mattock deal, 2m + Chris Brunt.
Mikey Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Armand Traore. :locked: Armand. Never happening though.
Jon the Hat Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 Armand Traore. :locked: Says in the Times that Wenger will not loan the kids until the end of August. And Brum are still after him, so I doubt he woudl come here. He didn't turn down Brum though, Arsenal said wait.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 We won't miss him that much, was good going forward though. I can't blame him for leaving though, if he saw any posts on this website then I wouldn't of thought he'd be too happy about it, think he just wants a fresh start. Still though, he's a **** for twice handing in a transfer request and saying it's his 'dream to win a cup with my hometown', the way Nige spoke of his departure aswell makes me glad we got rid of him. BUT.. Didn't Nige say he only wanted players who want to play for the club, and if this transfer request in January thing is true then why didn't he just get rid? Everytime i've heard what Berner has to say and seen him play he looks more commited than Mattock and loves playing for the club, whereas that's not the case with Mattock. I'm not calling Nige by anymeans btw, he's a great manager, best thing that's happened to our club in years, just wondering
teblin Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 What Joe said. A left back such as McGivern or Ryan Bertrand (if he hasn't gone anywhere). As for the Mattock deal, 2m + Chris Brunt. He is at Reading on loan.
Flynny Posted 7 August 2009 Posted 7 August 2009 If we only get 1.2 million or something for him you can bet your life there'll be a nice sell-on clause attached to that.
