Scow Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 We seem to have an aura of confidence about us. Sheffield United are no mugs by any means and going there and having them in our pockets for a good 50-60 minutes is not to be taken lightly. Exactly - we must not forget that we controlled the game for large parts on their own patch. They were close to automatic promotion last season, and although they're not a particularly great footballing side, they're a strong unit who will be up there again this season. I think we should be very pleased with the start we've made, particularly against two fancied sides away from home where we could have collected two wins.
THE MAGICIAN Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 This this THIS & THAT Well I for one thought that was a very good point last night, On another night yeah maybe we could have come away with all 3 points but hey ho, there will be more teams than not that will come away from the Lane with nothing so for me we have made a good SOLID start which we can continue to build on. Also thought that the defence in my eyes look a very good organised unit in which don't look like they will concede many goals. We also adapted well to the inforced changes and to be fair I reckon we are playing some good football and from what I have seen so far there is no reason why we can't push for them top 6 places. ROLL ON SAT FOR OUR NEXT 3 POINTS
montyfox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 From a radio fans point of view, worrying for the future last nights result against sheff utd was in no way a small feat we sounded like we took the game to utd and they couldnt cope with wellwns rangge of passing/tackling etc . There are a couple of things that worry me though the main on being lack of goals being scored 14 attempts on goal 7 on target 7off but only 1 goal this is worrying as the year we went down we were difficult to beat but had no killer touch 2nd on hearing the commentators on the radio and i quote leicester are out on their feet whilst sheff utd are frantic also sounds worrying as it shows lack of fitness/stamina now im in no position to judge as ive not seen any games this season only listend to stringer on the radio i will be able to make a better judgement over the bankholiday when i go to st james park i hope im wrong but untill we start scoring on a regular basis then its going to be a long season our average goal per game is 1 whilst our goals against 2 in three. up the city
Cobbo Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I was on FT, I enjoyed it on Coach 3. Was a good laugh leaving Sheffield.FT isn't fantastic, but I do think it's slagged off more than it deserves. Scow and me were on this coach. Too many kids. Enjoyable for them, nonetheless. But the waiting on the motorway for a police escort and needless stops at the services reminded us why we do not take FT very often.
Guest Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Did anyone else see the drop ball that Morgan seemed to want to contest? Only to bottle it and kick it back to us when Wayne Brown stepped up to the plate?Lisa, Carl, Scowy and myself enjoyed that very much. True story. We had a fantastic first half, and for this reason I feel disappointed with the point. We took the game to Sheffyoo, and we should have capitalised. Once we did score, Sheffyoo obviously upped their game, and we didn't have an answer to it. They are a very physical side, and rather than trying to play our way, we started to resort to their style, which we don't do. This is slightly concerning to me, but hopefully just minor blip. We certainly did ride our luck in the closing stages. In the end, we battled well for the point, but to have played so well at stages was frustrating.
Babylon Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Great performance and a good point... we need a cutting edge up front though, with the pressure football we are playing we should have scored more from open play. As it is, in the league we've had two fairly lucky deflected shots and a scramble in the area. We won't get lucky like that all year and need something more upfront. Unfortunately we probably don't have the £2/3m needed to get it. Chuffed with the start we have made so far though.
colbo68 Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I think we are looking at a Dickov/N'guessan lineup for barnsley. oh god! another good draw last night and an enjoyable match to be at. Sheffield's performance illustrated just what a tough division this is - they basically kicked us about a bit and fitness levels started to tell half way through the second half. Wayne Brown was a rock and Nielsen revelled, particularly in the second half, in making some great tackles. Regarding the strikers - I still think that Matty, willing as he is, is just muscled off the ball too easily to be effective at this level, it looked like both Howard and Wag have done their hamstrings - maybe its now time to give one or two of the younger lads a chance? I'd deffo rather see Ash Chambers up top with NGuessan than Dickov.
breadandcheese Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Great game last night and a fair point. Admittedly, if we'd taken our chances in the first 60 mins, we would have won, but a draw was a fair result, because they did put us under the cosh heavily for the last 30 mins. In fact, the last 30 mins felt like watching Zulu only with Michael Caine being played by Wayne Brown. As others have said the whole defence played brilliantly, and from the opening games so far I think Weale looks a good keeper. A point at Bramall Lane is a cracking result.
Fox92 Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 To be honest we dominated for at least 60minutes altough Sheffield United fans will think different as they hit the bar in the first half and all that, but we did dominate. As expected they played the long ball to Darius Henderson all the time and completely missed out the midfield and thats why we dominated in that area mostly; Wellens and Oakley were immense compared to Brain Howard and Nick Montgomery. Fryatt looked quite tired which was dissapointing and I was also dissapointed when Howard went off injured because we wern't even going to trouble Morgan and Kilgallon in the air. However, physically Waghorn was troubling Kilgallon at times. I think when we scored we sat back abit and let them come onto us which was pretty bad although having said that, we still looked calm and collect. The back four were great; it was my first viewing of Robbie Nielson and I thought he was solid and good in the air. Hobbs and Brown were also good as well as Berner who again had another good game. As said, the midfield dominated although N'Guessan looked poor but Nicky Adams looked good but faded in the second half although he was tracking back and helping out Berner at times. Our goal was certainly deserved and I could see Fryatt asking for it when Oakley was arranging the free kick. However, Oakley hit it and Fryatt was there with the poachers touch and he celebrated in front of me although I was a few rows back. I enjoyed the good old annual trip to Bramall Lane and thought again we deserved more than one point like at Ipswich. Can I just mention Mark Bunn who is now a complete something. Celebrating like that when we had clapped him what a...
carterfox90 Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 all in all a great point for us at a place we usually get done so well done to the team for showing some balls & getting stuck not like 2 years ago when we would have folded under that kind of pressure
Kilworthfox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Thought Brown and Hobbs were reasonably solid at the back along with Bruno, really not sure about Neilson, one moment was horrific when he and dany showed their winger inside in the first half, perhaps a recall for Morrison on the cards.Wasnt impressed with Sheffield Utd at all, Ched Evans at 3m was anonymous, if this is arguably the best that this league has to offer then we will be ok. Best song of the night....Wayne Brown - he'll break your fooking legs.............. crude but apposite.
Simi Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Enjoyable night as always, can't help thinking we should have taken three points though. I thought in the first half we passed the ball really well, especially in the centre of midfield, major credit for Welllens there by the way. His composure and vision on the ball has added a lot to our team this season. Not only that, but he seems to be helping to develop Oakley as well. Adams was lively as well, as expected. Wouldn't mind him having a run in the team, hopefully it will encourage Dyer to be a little more hungry, as when he came on he did look really lethargic. Not overly convinced by the right hand side. N'Guessan always looks like he's running on hot coal for some reason. Also, Neilson was turned and found out of posistion far too often in the first half and as the game went on was found wanting on more than one occasion. We seemed to deal with the pressure reasonably well in the second half, helped by some commanding catches by Weale and some monumental defending from Berner, Hobbs and obviously Wayne Brown. However, we wouldn't have been in that posisiton had Fryatt put away some of the chances that he got in the first and second half. A lot of us might be annoyed that we've only came away with a point, but last time we were in the Championship, it was those games where we were losing matches late on.
Tommeh Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 JESUS CHRIST ROBBIE NIELSON! Just got back to Leics, great night, decent performance with excellent celebrations and a good point....Also Wayne Brown was bouncer at the club we hit (Crystals) ther's nothing the guy can't do. BOOM BOOM BOOM.....

A lot of us might be annoyed that we've only came away with a point, but last time we were in the Championship, it was those games where we were losing matches late on. Superb first half performance, we passed the ball around like Arsenal and if we had a decent goalscorer like Chopra up front we would have been at least a goal ahead at half time. N'Guessan really put a lot of effort into the game, he has come from Lincoln into a whole new level and he couldn't move in the last few minutes he was so tired, he impressed aswell as the other midfielders and some of the tight 1 touch passing was sublime, i don't think we can complain with his start to the season. Adams was lively again, did put a few poor crosses in though, but always chased the ball down and went for it. The second half was tough, the blades cut us up really bad but couldn't get the knife in. Once again Berner was the star man for me with some of his incredible defending. But considering we lost Howard early on we seemed to not panic and adapt to that situation very well, still bossing the game. We just lack the cutting edge up front, Waghorn couldn't get in the game, Howards never going to score a load of goals in this League, Fryatt misses way to many chances, and after those 3 we have little left. NP says he won't sign players for the sake of it but unless he gives Dj a go a new striker is a necessity. But it was a really entertaining terrific match to watch, we survived their mauling second half to get a point, our first from Bramall in many many years, and had there not been a 25 yard screamer we would have won the game. Still if we play like that every week, with a new striker who can finish, we will be in the top 10 no problem.
davieG Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Blades fan with envy! Looks like you are going to enjoy the season. One of the best away performances I've seen in the Championship. Pearson is clearly building a side with plenty of aggression but quality, controlled football. So impressed with N'Guessen, Wellens, Waghorn, your new signings. Keeper and back 4 rock solid and mean. "Leicester – I think they will finish in the top 10 and may even be an outside contender of the playoffs. They were well organised, strong at the back and played some decent football. They came out and went for the victory and tried to attack United were put on the back foot early on and could not get into the game. Blackwell said last season when sides like Derby and Preston came and had a go at us it brought out the best in us so what was his excuse tonight? They have a tall side that won’t get out battled but have some good footballers in the likes of Wellens and Oakley who can get it down and play. Fryatt is a lively striker who does not give defenders a rest. Howard went off injured but is a strong centre forward who does much the job Henderson does for us. N’ Guessan is a player we supposedly watched and tonight he did look good with pace, physique and trickery. At the back Hobbs and Brown are decent in the air but both read the game well. The keeper Weale commanded his box well and took a lot of aerial balls. Leicester seemed so much sharper than us from the off, both in quickness to the ball and also in terms of their speed of though and the way they kept the ball. We seemed unable to get amongst them and when we had the ball we gave it them back thought poor touches or usually long aimless balls."
Guest Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Winding up the fat bloke over to the left side was funny I'm fairly happy with the point, although understandably disappointed to have played so well in the first half and not made it count for more. Still, I think we've made a solid start to the championship and think we'll only get better

C-man Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Barnsley will be another test. Especially if we're without Howard and Waghorn.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 If we beat Barnsley it has been a very good start indeed. Just need to find the srtikers from somewhere...

harpendenfox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 OK it's only three games, but we're 8th, which is the highest league position we've held in over five years I reckon. I think I'm right in saying that our four years in the Champo saw us languishing in the bottom half pretty much permanently. On top of that by pretty much all accounts we're playing decent football, we're built on a sound defence, have a great midfield, options on the flank, and a useful attack, if one man light. Kudos to all at LCFC for restoring the pride in our Club. It must be mighty tempting to push the boat out on a striker who could get us 20 goals this season, not that anything is guaranteed. That's no disrespect intended to what we have already. Happy days indeed. Long may they last

I am slightly annoyed we didnt win one of Ipswich and United but, like I say I would have taken two draws before the game. I think we will easily beat Barnsley as they havent scored against us this decade while we have won all meetings home and away.

Also i was on the left side and the songs were funny towards the Fat bloke.
