In our only 4 League matches against each other this decade, they have all ended in wins for us, without us conceding a single goal. Two seasons ago we all thought we were safe after a 1-0 win at Barnsley, we never knew we would go and lose 3-1 to Wednesday, missing a peno, which virtually sent us down the week after. And 3 seasons ago we secured safety with a 1-0 win at Barnsley. Strangely our last 2 home matches have ended in 2-0 wins, our last 2 away matches have ended in 1-0 wins against Barnsley. What we cannot be is complacent but we all expect a win in this one None of us know what the strikeforce will be for this one, which adds a bit of interest to the game. Will Howard play, will Waghorn, will Fryatt Two went off injured at Bramall and Fryatt was limping a little. Will Dj Campbell be given a go after 2 goals for the reserves tonight? Will Yann Kermo be signed before the Barnsley game, he also scored for the reserves tonight. It's going to be intriguing to see what NP decides for this one, we may end up playing 4-5-1. I think we will win this, comfortably hopefully, if we play anything like the performance at Bramall Lane, i can see us winning 3-0. But as i can't see it being 1-0 or 2-0 again, or Barnsley not scoring against us again, i think we will win 3-1 :locked:

Foster will no doubt play full back so we'll have some joy there. Actually, I am feeling confident for a change, don't think they will even threaten us

Thracian Posted 20 August 2009 Posted 20 August 2009 If we don't beat Barnsley, what some people see as a good start to the season, will quickly become significantly worse. Five points from four games reads much more alarmingly that five points from three which just emphasises how important it is to take three points whenever you get the chance. And I think we voluntarily donated two points to Ipswich last week however brilliant some people seem to have built up the East Anglians in their minds. Suddenly we face a team of battlers, not with our full squad but with much reduced alternatives and the prospect of playing in an unfamiliar style i.e. without the use of Howard as the holding player and attacking fulcrum. And the problem I see there is we're so unused to doing anything else. All seem to agree that we passed Sheffield United into near oblivion for an hour but I've only seen us do that against good opposition to the point when we score the first goal. Once that happens or whenever we come under serious pressure we drop off and revert only to hoisting the ball forward to Howard and he won't be there Saturday. So the key will be to see how we react to Barnsley getting among us. Last time I watched Fryatt against Bansley (at Oakwell) he was perpetually played offside and made little impression. I've no idea who else is likely to score who's likely to be picked at centre-forward but we do still have the pace and skill to unlock defences though whether we can find an jack in the penalty box I'm not so sure. Even with every choice I've been disappointed that we still never seem to have anyone running short to attack the near post. Strange that considering how many of our crosses are short, low and far too easily dealt with throuh lkack of challenge. How I wish we had a Tony Cottee type who can attack the front post now we're up against better defenders. And people to hurry forward into the box from midfield. I honestly thought King could help do that but it never looks the case any more. So many defences are unhinged by movement either into the box or inside it. But we seem to be too static in there and it seems ages since I've seen Kingy anywhere near the penalty box or, indeed, doing anything more than act as a sort of insurance man, whether by accident or instruction. Still, few fans seem bothered. They seem more than happy with the two draws we've returned with from our travels and supremely confident that we will, meanwhile, win our games at home. Let's hope they're right and that we get forward fast and with enough numbers and movement to prevent Barnsley spoiling the theory. At least I'm looking forward to it and the prospect, hopefully, of not shutting up shop when we score. I'm going for 3-1. But I'm rarely right in predicting City's results.
Munzie Posted 20 August 2009 Posted 20 August 2009 Pearson will want to show that his 'we can compete' comment was no off the cuff remark having faced two of the more favoured sides in this division on their own turf. We need last season's home winning momentum to continue. As Thrac has pointed out, if we were to trip up on Saturday, our good start will have all but eroded. Drawing away is good enough if you take your home wins. With a patched-up strike force (whoever that may be), I'm not expecting a rout. That said, I do think this should be an easier 3 points in the bag compared to some of the home games we will be facing. 1-0 Leicester.

From one of their forums: Can't remember us winning at Leicester, only a few times at home. Bogey team. Most teams in this league are bogey teams for us. I think its something to do with us being shit. Oh, and so far 85 percent of their voters predict a win for us.
