James. Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 still don't get why you would bring a pigs head.Explain Just fancied it.
lcfc_jme Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 Lets be honest though, even if you think he's shit, or not, he was less shit than the rest of the shit we had playing in one of the shittest teams to play for Leicester. He made that shit team a little bit more enjoyable to watch. I don't deny that he was one of the better players in that team, but it's hardly an achievement to boast about, is it? Honestly, Hume played the headless chicken role to perfection, and for that he gets credit because at least he didn't stop running like many others did. I just don't think he deserves anything like the hero status he has at our club. I don't see how that's wrong, really? I actually think it's a shame we as a set of fans have had to resort to idolising somebody just because they run around like a headless chicken all game when that's the minimum we should expect. Still, guess I'm in the minority and it's just my opinion, eh? He has had major injury problems. How can you make immature comments about him, when he was the only player to have shown his worth in that dreadful season? He stood head and shoulders above everyone else, and worked his socks off for us. I would dearly love to have him back here. Yeah, he's had a bad injury. As has Eduardo, as has Petr Cech, as has James Wesolowski. Immature comments? Oh, because I gave my opinion on him and it doesn't agree with the mainstream? As if it was difficult to have stood out in our team that season? Seriously, most fans on the terraces would've given 110% effort on the pitch and not stopped running all game if they had the chance. I don't see why I should single him out as some kind of hero just because he ran and ran and ran. He played for us, wasn't brilliant, and now he plays for somebody else. Woop de fucking woop.
James. Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 Don't think anyone's said in this thread that they'd worship him or that he's a hero (you're the only one using those terms), just that he deserves a clap and maybe a bit of a cheer. Seems reasonable.

Seems reasonable. Yeah, I'm the only one who thinks that a lot of our fans see Hume as a hero. Sorry, you're right.
Finnegan Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 I'd have given Petr Cech a clap if I was witnessing one of his come-back games, too. Major head injuries like that are far more than being on the end of some horrific leg break or something. He could have been killed in his line of work but he got up and came back. You can't rule out the pyschological impact it must have had on him. Takes courage, I think. You seem to be being overly heartless purely to be reactionary, Jamie, there's no need to be obnoxious. I don't see why he's hero worshiped either, that doesn't mean I'm going to be resentful of his return to Leicester after recovering from what he has. For me it's far more about that than his time here.

For me it's far more about that than his time here. Finners, I appreciate that he must have a huge heart, massive amounts of courage and an underlying fear every time he goes up to head the ball when he steps onto the field of play. I really do. I can't imagine being on the receiving end of his kind of injury and bouncing back, I sincerely hope I never am and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I don't agree that I'm being overly heartless to draw a reaction, though. I'm merely giving my opinion on what I perceived his ability and impact was during his time with us. In purely footballing terms, and you've admitted yourself, his status amongst our fans is bemusing. I don't see why me giving my opinion on what he's like as a footballer is causing so much uproar. Ok, applaud him for being brave enough to come back and keep plugging away after what he's been through before kickoff. But all this "HUUUUUUUUUUUME" and sentimental talk is a bit much, in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see if everyone still feels the same tomorrow if he celebrates a goal against us or feigns injury to get somebody sent off.

mja Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 Fair enough he bagged a few screamers, but if he was better at controlling the ball he wouldn't have had to put in quite so much effort to try and win the ball back- thus not have looked quite so "committed to the cause"! I think the novelty factor of the huuuuuuuuuume shout aids his popularity amongst fans too
leftsideoverhere Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 As if it was difficult to have stood out in our team that season? Well, none of the rest of them managed it. Which I suppose explains why people are using the phrase "stood out". Given the stick we gave Morgan on Tuesday we'd look arseholes not giving Hume a welcome tomorrow, no? Unless, of course, the point of being a football fan is just to hate everyone and hurl abuse in all directions. Which, of course, it might be.
maddog Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 If i was him, id be fooking shitting it going up for headers against Brown leg breaker and Hobbs tomorrow, for fear of banging my head again. And i'm not sure the implications of his injury but surely his skull must be weakened a little now and if such a head collision would happen could result in an even more serious outcome.
Daggers Posted 21 August 2009 Posted 21 August 2009 Bless him. St.Hume will spend the game floating 6" above the pitch, carried on a wave of ongoing blinkered adulation.
Fox 4 Life Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Come on guys, quickly how people forget, yeah he left us but in that shameful relegation season humey was about the only one that consistently gave 100% for this team, in my eyes he is a legend!
Arkie Bennett Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Why clap someone that gave 110%? It's the minimum any player should give. I want City players to give 100%, no more, no less. When they are trying to give more than 100% that's when they make mistakes.
Father Ted Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Well, I for one will be giving him a standing ovation today and anybody who doesn't is an ignorant monkey.
joeyates Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 dont forget its the same iain hume that left us when we got relegated but you cant take it away from him he always gave 110 percent
Father Ted Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 dont forget its the same iain hume that left us when we got relegated but you cant take it away from him he always gave 110 percent Don't give me that bollocks! Yes he left but as Bert and others have pointed out he was FORCED out.
ronnup Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 We didn't win two world wars with that attitude!!!!
Bryn Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 I was gonna say, I thought Hume wanted to stay but was asked to leave as one of few saleable assets we had?

davieG Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Can someone explain to me why he got more personal applause, almost every time he touched ball than any of our players. Fair enough applaud him if you want when his names read out but allthe way through the game -WTF Hume takes corners down the Kop end and gets applauded every time. Gallagher, who we've just signed on a 3 year contract gets a seemingly grudgingly belated round of applause after his second corner. Bring back the real Kop with a some aggressive passionate support, it's like the social services down there now. Calm down davieG, it's only a game.
Edmund Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Bring back the real Kop with some aggressive passionate support. I had a tear treacle out my eye with my hand on heart as I read that comment. R.I.P Filbert Street.
