Finchy Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Why do they want him is the main question, those new strikers Jozy Altidore and Ghilas looked awesome yesterday! Can you imagine Fryatt with one of them? But anyway yeah i'd snap Brown's hand off for that!
Basingstoke Fox Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Who would we sign that is at least as good and would want to come to play for us? If there is nobody then there is no point. Especially when you consider that Walsall have a sell on clause and most of the money we recoup probably wont be invested in the team.
stevie909 Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 If there are equally good players available for £2million why wouldn't Hull buy them instead? I'm not hull. I don't know. all i know is that we could most probably get someone like hooper who is equally as lethal as fryatt for that money. Maybe Brown just does not know this division, or is just seeing fryatt's impressive goal tally last season. either way, 4m is an illogical valuation.
Bryn Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Christ on a bike. Jermaine Beckford is not going to sign for us. End of story.Hopefully this isn't true anyway and we can crack on. This would cause huge disruption at a time when things are going beautifully. Only two people mentioned Beckford and only one made it sound anything like definitely possible.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Only two people mentioned Beckford and only one made it sound anything like definitely possible. I don't get it at all though. If he was available, then he'd have gone somewhere in the Premiership or the likes of Newcastle/Sheff United by now. There's absolutely zero chance of us signing him and his name always crops up as if we can just barrel into Elland Road tomorrow and whisk him away. I think Simeon Jackson would probably be the first port of call if Fryatt left.

The only player that fills people with as much confidence as Fryatt, I guess. The point I was attempting to make was, if we don't need the cash then we should be looking at the possibility of such a signing as Beckford. The reason I didn't throw myself enthusiastically into that cause is that I know it's highly unlikely, and why I'm inclined to want to turn down even a £4m offer, as it would always be a bit of a risk that I'm hoping we don't need to take. But we shall see.

Come the end of the season when he's not limping off the pitch after every game and his goals have elevated the clubs league postition he'll be worth much more than 4 million, be worth much more than his weight in gold IF he can get us to the premier league. Can we not interest Brown in DJ?

richardsfoxes Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Wont happen, Fryatt has always been in nigel pearsons long term plans. If we do sell him it would upset the squad and lets be honest, i highly doubt Nigel is going to let him go. Milan wont want to do anything that could "Hickup" our decent start to the season....
Mickey O'Neil Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 4 mill is a lot of money. But I don't really want to see us lose Fryatt, he is our only proven goalscorer. He seems to be able to keep it up in Championship as well.Gonna be interesting to see these next days. How was Gallagher? I seem to be on my own here (compared to the Chelsea Dagger muppets on the Radio yesterday). I thought Gally looked really good. Some of his touches were fabulous. He'll be flicking the ball and laying it off in places where players (maybe ours as well!!!?) won't expect it. I don't know about his fitness, but he looked good yesterday considering he's only had one training session.
eaststandtom Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Could explain why we signed an almost identical player in Gallagher while still pursuing an interest in the French bloke precisely! this is not good news. we need fryatt desperately. i hope city keep him.
eaststandtom Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 precisely!this is not good news. we need fryatt desperately. i hope city keep him. 4 million is not enough anyway.
Flynny Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Hopefully this isn't true anyway and we can crack on. This would cause huge disruption at a time when things are going beautifully. I can't believe no-one else is saying this! I'd turn it down or at least tell them to come back in January.
Father Ted Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 We really should need to hold on to a vital player like Fryatt if we were to launch a play-off bid but money like that really can't be rejected although how much will NP get to spend of it anyone?? Also, Altidore and Ghilas looked deadly for Hull yesterday so I don't understand why he would spend £4m on a striker to sit on the bench!
Simi Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 £4 million? Tommeh, get the megane. We'll drive him.
Tommeh Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 £4 million?Tommeh, get the megane. We'll drive him. And on the way back I'll go up to Leeds and pick up Jermaine just to keep this forum from boiling over.
dimmerchant Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 This would probably explain why Phil Brown was at the Swansea game. I can't see it being too bad if we can bring in somebody else but the trouble is finding that player to bring in. I presume the main reason Brown is after him is because of his goal record but although I think Fryatt is good for us, he is nowhere near Premiership standard and £4m is a good price.
Karljohn Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Phil Brown is a complete and utter arsehole whether he pays 4m or not. Piss poor excuse of a football manager.

I thought Gallagher was intelligent, played some quality crossfield passes and was generally top drawer, dare I say it too clever for us at times.
Manderic's pants Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 I thought Gallagher was very promising yesterday, but at the end of the day it was Fryatt who managed to score the only (and well taken) goal - yet again. £4m is loads, but as we haven't exactly been prolific so far my concern is that the goals could dry up...
Mickey O'Neil Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 And on the way back I'll go up to Leeds and pick up Jermaine just to keep this forum from boiling over. Give him, Wellens & Oakley time to gel & they'll be ripping teams a new arsehole
bigneville Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Because Phil Brown is their manager?Fryatt has impressed me so far, I didn't expect him to play as well as he has been playing and considering he is only half fit, i'm quite impressed, however 4 Million? Think i'd take the money. £4 million!Goodbye Matthew. £4 million?Tommeh, get the megane. We'll drive him. Have to agree with above posters. Yes he has started well for us, but £4million is a big price for a player, yet to fully prove it at Championship level. I'd take £4million for him. Good deal for us.

Yeah but who could we get to replace him?
davieG Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Consider, like the actual move the £4mill figure is just something someone has conjured up, knowing there's a bid in the offing is one thing knowing the fee is highly unlikely. So even if it was £4mill; well less Walsall's bit and given that it will probably include a lot of add ons coupled with the odds that Hull could well get relegated we'd be lucky to see £2mill out of that £4mill Then it doesn't look such a hot deal to me.
