Babylon Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Phil Brown is ready to turn to Matty Fryatt in a last-gasp bid to solve Hull's striker problem. Tigers boss Brown is lining up a £4million swoop for the Leicester hit-man, who notched 32 goals as the Foxes powered their way to instant promotion back to the Championship as League One champions last season. Fryatt's scoring exploits last term have attracted the attention of a host of top flight clubs, but Hull are leading the chase for the 23-year-old after being snubbed by SEVEN top-notch hit-men this summer. Michael Owen, Fraizer Campbell, Marc-Antoine Fortune, Bobby Zamora, Marlon Harewood, Daryl Murphy and Real Madrid's Alvaro Negredo have all rejected switches to the Humberside outfit. Brown has managed to bring in United States international striker Jozy Altidore,19, on a season-long loan deal from La Liga outfit Villarreal, but still wants another proven scorer to partner him up front. Fryatt, who joined Leicester from Walsall for £350,000 in January, 2006, only signed a new three-and-a-half year deal at the Walker's Stadium last December. But City would find it difficult to turn down a big offer for Fryatt, who has scored four goals in six appearances for England under-19's, even though they want him to spearhead their assault on a second successive promotion.

Could this be the suprise departure you mentioned the other day? £4 million is al ot of cash.
Babylon Posted 23 August 2009 Author Posted 23 August 2009 It's in the Mirror and the news of the world.
brookfox Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Could explain why we signed an almost identical player in Gallagher while still pursuing an interest in the French bloke
Mort Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 We'd be stupid to turn down £4mil, but we would be losing a key player so we'd have to reinvest some of the money we got and if NP had £2mil to spend that could well be enought to make good the loss and plug some of the gaps we've still got.
lildave3 Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Would be silly for both him and Hull. See David Connolly for details.
Cropwellfox Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Would be silly for both him and Hull.See David Connolly for details. Completely agree, that muppet Brown is hilarious, 7 strikers turning him down already this summer. If that makes him pay over the odds for Fryatt then so be it. Would be handy to get in Folan as part of any deal with Hull, then spend some of the balance on a left sided defensive player.
teblin Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 If there is any truth in this, we'll be in for hooper from scunny.
C-man Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 I think Fryatt should turn down Pihl Brown just for a laugh. £4m for an unproven Championship striker just makes the twat look silly.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Almost certain there is a sell on clause with walsall think it might be 25%.

haraven Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 4 mill is a lot of money. But I don't really want to see us lose Fryatt, he is our only proven goalscorer. He seems to be able to keep it up in Championship as well. Gonna be interesting to see these next days. How was Gallagher?
Fox92 Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Cannot sell him, ecspecially to bleedin' Hull of all teams but 4million is a lot to turn down. Then again, who can we get to replace him at 4million? Sign Waghorn perminantly? Although it seems a lot of money, we might not be able to get in another striker.
maddog Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Id snap Browns hand off for £3m so £4m yes yes yes. Give us the cash to buy Beckford Plus i can stop my Fryatt rants, 5 goals in 2 seasons for us But Fryatt has already scored 40% of his total goals in the Championship in his last 2 seasons, in 4 matches. But i think it's a bigger risk not to sell for that ridiculous money, £4m for an unproven Championship striker to go play in the Premiership is a
Webbo Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Could explain why we signed an almost identical player in Gallagher while still pursuing an interest in the French bloke I was thinking this yesterday during the match. Especially after it's rumoured that we'd be losing one of our big name players.
stevie909 Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 i'd snap brown's hand off for that. the people who say we shouldnt sell him for 4m now are the same people who were crying out for us to cancel his contract during the relegation season. Alright he is one of the best players at club, but what happens when this rich vein of form ends? For 2m we could get an equally good replacement, no doubt.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 I'd rather he stayed to be honest, as I don't think it will be easy to sign as reliable a goalscorer as he is, but if they got £4 million for him I wouldn't be too upset. Whether his signing would improve Hull's prospects in the Prem, I have my doubts
Cropwellfox Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Looking at the longer term picture, I think cashing in like this is a decent enough strategy. Getting the club back to stability financially can't be underestimated, and with NP's track record so far I would absolutely back him to spend 50% of any money for Fryatt and get better value out of the player(s) he brings in. Hobbs, Tunch and Morrison are all now worth far more than we paid for them for example, Adams and N'Guessan are on the verge of going the same way, and I would back NP supported by Steve Walsh to do the same again and again.
Webbo Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 For 2m we could get an equally good replacement, no doubt. If there are equally good players available for £2million why wouldn't Hull buy them instead?
Bryn Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Hmmm. Does anyone know if we need the dosh? If we could bring in Beckford and have some left over go for it, but Fryatt has notched 3 goal this season, and looks like he's going to do much better than last time around. I think if we can afford to keep him we shouldn't let him go, I think we'd have to spend the bulk of that to replace him, around a mil would have to go to Walsall if the aforementioned sell-on clause is true and we'd be disrupting the squad.
bjblyth Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 The thing I think about this is who will have the final say? I wouldn't like to see Fryatt go. If he goes, and we replace him with a dud striker it cost us promotion for example. That's worth far more than £4million to any football club. But if Manderic does intend to sell the club, and allows 50% of the proceeds for NP to spend, it's a nice easy £2million in Manderic's back pocket before he cashes in on us anyway. If we see Fryatt go, I think it will be against the will of Pearson as the decision may come from above him...
Cropwellfox Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 If there are equally good players available for £2million why wouldn't Hull buy them instead? Brown has tried... they've all turned him down
Matt Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 If there are equally good players available for £2million why wouldn't Hull buy them instead? Because Phil Brown is their manager? Fryatt has impressed me so far, I didn't expect him to play as well as he has been playing and considering he is only half fit, i'm quite impressed, however 4 Million? Think i'd take the money.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Christ on a bike. Jermaine Beckford is not going to sign for us. End of story. Hopefully this isn't true anyway and we can crack on. This would cause huge disruption at a time when things are going beautifully.
davieG Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 All sounds a bit fishy to me - one of Babylon's phantom plants
