Corky Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 If we don't go up this season, we never will. I think this season is Leicester City's best chance of promotion to the Premiership for a long, long time. How do you work that out? Possibly, by having a solid season, we can strengthen and then push on for a true assault at promotion next year.
maddog Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 How do you work that out?Possibly, by having a solid season, we can strengthen and then push on for a true assault at promotion next year. We may aswell try and get promoted this season. This League isn't strong at all, anyone can beat anyone so lets just get up this year. Had Pearson not made so many tactical flaws in hindsight, we would be in the top 3 now. And even with what Pearson has done we could have easily won against Ipswich, Sheff United, Watford, Derby. We are so fooking close it's unbelieveable, if we just go for it and attack a bit more we will win so many games.

Don't talk rubbish, it's quite obvious this is our one and only shot at the big time. It's certainly not going top happen under boring ageist Pearson, get rid of the clown and get that bloke from Blackpool. At least he won't bore us all to death in his news conferences. Only an idiot would suggest having a solid year is a good building block. Strengthen in the summer and push on... pah... why wait, we should push on now!!!! Throw men forward we'll score loads and definitely won't concede whilst all these players bomb forward.

MC Prussian Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 In short, yes he is. Because he does the job. Also because he's had the chance to work for more than a year now with a bunch of players he wanted himself (which is quite an impressive period of time for one single manager @ Leicester City ). I admit that some of his tactics this season seemed a bit...err... far-fetched and he appears to have his favourites (Howard, for instance). There have already been a few frustrating results (at home to Peterborough or away at Watford), but then again, who'd have thought we'd get a point at Bramall Lane or beat Middlesbrough away???

davieG Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Im not having a dig here or starting anything, but do you believe that pearson IS the man that can push us into the premiership and keep us there for a season at least? I have faith in Pearsons ability to keep us in the championship after bringing us up, but i do not believe that he has the ability to get us into the premiership. I have to hand to Pearson that he has made our defence is fantastic most of the time, i wouldnt expect anything less from an ex defender. I understand this seasons league is a bloody hard league to be in this year and we are 2 places off the play offs which is fantastic. I just wish we could score more goals and look more attacking rather than defending all out and throwing it forward hoping one of our strikers can latch on to it. I have faith in pearson but do not believe he is the man to get us in the premiership....................ill get my coat. I think he's the right man for the job as we currently stand I wouldn't worry about the Premiership until we get there. As for whether Pearson can get us there, who knows? He's doing as a good a job as any of the Managers of the Teams above us considering where we've come from and certainly significantly better than the other promoted teams. Even if it could be proved that he wasn't the man to get us promoted, he's got a better chance than anyone else of ensuring we don't go back down again and what are the alternatives? As we should know to our great cost finding a manager who can guarantee success is nigh impossible and seemingly more difficult for Mandaric than most. Many teams start off in this league slowly and develop/improve as the season progresses. Likewise many managers take a while or two to make the necessary break through to success ( Fergusan?). It would seem to me the only reason to consider seriously the removal of a manager is when things are obviously going backward, we're not in that position so lets give the guy a fair crack of the whip, certainly as long as the clown who was Holloway was allowed - even a clown can eventually get lucky thankfully we're not having to take that risk this season with Pearson.

Daggers Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Holloway is a manager, can can do his stuff and any talk that this club was simply too big for him is bullshit. Managers have to deal with the clubs they are allowed to run - and Holloway wasn't given any latitude in his management. Pearson has been given room to do his job, but even then he has had limitations placed upon him by our wantaway chairman. To want to rid the club of stability, regardless of whether you rate Pearson's abilities & achievements or not, is fucking ludicrous. There was nowhere near the strengthening of the squad that I felt was required or I expected. There's no billionaire going to flood the club with cash. It all comes down to slow building and youth player development. And consistency.

tewkesbury-fox Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 From what i have seen this season we played some good stuff which is a definite improvement on the dross over the last few years sure its frustrating to see games we should have won but as someone rightly said he hasnt had a big pot of gold to bring in players so overall i will give him a B+
Edmund Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Have people not learnt that the "I want it and I want it now" mentality contributed to us getting in the mess we were in. Two points off third place and people question if he's the right man for the job and are going to "give him 6 months".... Give me strength!! He's hardly been backed that much financially either (we sold Mattock remember), there are plenty of teams below us who have spent more. Forest are one point ahead and spent about £8m in the summer!! Question his tactics and selections that are sometimes debatable. But long term I'm not sure how the thought of getting rid could even come into peoples minds. Blackpool are 5th, maybe we should get their manager? Give Babylon the key to the city
BoneDog Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I'm glad we've got Pearson because of the obvious improvement we've made. All you can hope for is an improvement on what goes before and we have had it. However, I am disappointed at the points we seem to give away or drop. This will happen in a season, but if it keeps happening at this rate then this season will be a bit of a downer after the obvious chance we have of doing well. I haven't seen anything this season that says we are out of our depth in this league and I feel we are sitting a couple of places below where we should be. The games against Peterborough, Derby and Watford should have been won. But at least the Watford game had a high at the end after a real low. I do think that we did throw away 6 points in those games and I have moaned about it and found it hard to take. To change managers or call for his head would be ridiculous though. We will hopefully improve this season and start killing off teams when we should
Raj Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 A few months ago people were calling Pearson GOD...Where has it all gone wrong eh!!!??? Bring back Ollie and Allen combo!!!
Sly Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 The Championship is a funny league. On their day, any given team can beat another, so when people complain we've drawn against tams like Derby, Peterbourgh and Ipswich you've got to remember where we've come from. Last season we were a League One team and in all honesty, despite what Milan spins us, we would all have been happy with a mid table finish. Certain fans forget we've been away to Boro and beaten them, our best three points of the season to date. I'm happy as long as we don't lose games. Corny saying buy it is a marathon and not a sprint, as long as we continue to pick up points, whether that be 1 or 3 every game, then I'm happy. We are not a Premiership team that deserves to steam roll through this league based on past reputations, we've got to grind out results and people have got to understand that. The other twenty three league clubs probley look at us once we've taken points off them because we're a promoted club and they might view it as dropped points!! Pearson may not always get it right and we may question his tactics from time to time but we don't see the players in training very day, he does. He is a Manager that is still to a degree learning his squads’ capabilities and limitations. A good manager will only add two or three players a season so not to upset the mix and allow them to blend in and see how they work with the rest of the squad. Hopefully this is the format we'll now look to adapt as we move forwards. Pearson is a Leicester City Legend in the making and we, as a group of fans should get behind him and support the man!!
marbelladave Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I can see no reason for criticising Pearson for his results, it has been said many times but virtually all of us (myself included) would have taken 8th place after 12 games had it been offered before the start of the season. But strangely, they make us play those twelve games to get to this point and I have to say that I am generally disappointed with the quality of the teams in this league and I believe we have consistently sold ourselves short by playing very conservatively and not taking the game to opposition who are eminently beatable. Had we lost a couple of games by being over adventurous I could understand the cautious approach but we have consistently failed to get support up to our main strikers, usually Howard and Fryatt, because the attacking players often deployed in midfield are clearly under instruction to prioritise their defensive duties. Overall I feel Pearson has done a remarkable job stabilising the club and the players he has brought in are generally sound, my complaint, such as it is, is that we have failed to even try to unleash the attacking potential we have in the club with players such as Dyer, N'Guessan, Gallagher, Yanni, Waghorn, Adams and Gradel.

Thracian Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Hang on there..... who has hacked MarbellaDaves account and said all this postive stuff?! Marbella's one of the most positive people on here. Too many of the rest want to settle for eighth place and for a boring period of stability.
Budweiser Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Give Nick Griffin the key to the city If Pearson really is interested in signing Davids, I am literally going to collapse ! It's got Mandaric's turd all over it.
davieG Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Offering constructive criticism of the team and the way we play doesn't mean you want Pearson out otherwise you could argue that everyone who puts in a different team selection to the Pearson norm or questions his substitutions must want Pearson out. Just a thought like
