Ford Super Sunday Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 As soon as the Neilson haters realise he could replace him, this guy will be loved all round. That is of course until the Neilsen haters need a new target to shoulder the blame of every Leicester error, which means Nobby will get it in the neck after 34 minutes of his debut, or Mr. McGivern will see himself with a new batch of bandwagoners
Lillehamring Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Exactly. We've got players that have done it very slightly better in the past than they are now but we're a donkey's cock away from having a set-piece specialist. well, if the rumours and past videos are anything to go by, it seems like kermo can hit a decent dead ball....
foxoffderby Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Happy with this. If it comes off great and as many have stated he gives something we lack at the moment, somebody who can cross a decent ball (just ask Shearer) and a dead ball specialist. If it doesn't come off no worries hes gone at the end of the season.
iancognito Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 City with Solano > City without Solano He's cost nothing, he's not here on a 3 year deal, he might be able to give Gradel a lesson in crossing a ball and while he's here there's one less space in the team for N'Guessan & Gallagher and the guy we have rumoured to be playing in the midfield Andy King. Plus the fact that Oakley might actually be moved back into the middle where he used to be fairly useful not the wing where he's as effective as a cardboard cutout of David Beckham. I don't see anything wrong with this at all. Besides, at this level 36 means nothing, it's not like the division is blessed with pacey & skillful players who'll run rings around an ageing winger. EDIT: Hadn't seen the Gradel news....
purpleronnie Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I think now we've signed him its great. If we hadn't then we didnt want him anyway. That pretty much sums up every transfer.
Ozwin Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I don't think he'll have long to teach Gradel how to cross since he handed in a transfer request.
Edmund Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Plus the fact that Oakley might actually be moved back into the middle where he used to be fairly useful not the wing where he's as effective as a cardboard cutout of David Beckham.
iancognito Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I don't think he'll have long to teach Gradel how to cross since he handed in a transfer request. Yeah, I corrected that straight away, I'd not seen the Gradel update when I posted.
RowlattsFox Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Like all new signings I'll let him play before I criticise but its not a very exciting signing. Positivies are that he was never a player with pace so not lost anything, should still have the ability to cross and control, and we do lack a good set-piece taker so maybe we've found one.
suffolk fox Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Good signing!! Expect him to be in the squad tomorrow. Great player to bring on and get some quality balls in the box. I can't see how people can complain.Sheff Utd didn't fancy him though.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/8474599.stm Possible unknown fact: Solano has his face on a Peruvian stamp and his wedding was televised live! * Waits for the DVD to appear in the club shop with a 20% discount this weekend only!! One line in your post says it all really. Solano played for Sheff Utd reserves the other day they won 4-1. If he was still that good surely they would have signed him? Yes, agreed he was once good. I hope to god he proves me wrong, Les Ferdinand did and so too Cottee when they came. However, my concerns are he was on trial at Sheff Utd and his beloved Newcastle neither of them were willing to sign him up? If his legs haven't gone, maybe it will prove an astute signing, but a lot of posts on here are not moaning BUT right to be cautious?
Thracian Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I think it's Pearson, knows him well from his time at Newcastle... plus we are working on a limited budget and his wages aren't going to be big. It's a punt to freshen up the squad I think. Strikes me as a combination of the two. Mandaric wanting a name player and Pearson thinking of Solano. I've nothing against Solano and Pearson surely has the advantage of knowing his capabilities although the years have been passing and I can see him finding it as hard as every other winger we've had to fulfill the role expected of him. But we'll see. Whatever, the pending loss of Gradel remains a waste. We didn't get the best of him by a long way, something we seem to be making a habit of in recent times.
Collymore Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Glad we'll have someone who can take direct freekicks now. Not had anyone useful at them for a while, Big Trev liked a few power bombs but now we have real quality what a soundtrack
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Never understood why people get so grouchy about signings like this. He'll bring a bit of experience, he'll cost relatively fuck all, we aren't paying him for 3 years, we don't have mass millions, he'll offer some extra options for the remainder of the season. A season in which, people apparently need to be reminded, we're massively over-performing by expectations. Christ. Think people get grouchy about proven and experienced players - who've played at the top-level - here for one last easy pay day.... Dennis Wise, Keith Gillespie, Martin Keown, Ricky Hill, Andy Johnson etc... but then again, we have had the decency of Les Ferdinand, Steffen Freund, Tony Cottee so may not all be so bad.

Hopefully its more a case of they dont need his style of player that badly at the moment rather than he was shit? Im quite confident NP wouldnt sign anyone whos legs were gone. Cant see the harm personally itll either work or it wont?
Daggers Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 What's your point? You keep complaining about my posts with such frequency it borders on obsession. Are you that needy for attention? I told you to put me on block but you just can't manage it can you. Needy needy needy.

Keith Gillespie was hardly here for one last pay day... he played for another 6 years and about 4/5 clubs after us?
Daggers Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 we seem to be making a habit of in recent times. Stearman isn't setting the world alight in the Prem, Mattock isn't stepping up any levels at West Brom. So who am I missing who is now a maestro having left us?
Collymore Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Not sure if this has been posted but I found this on a newcastle forum. Lets hope this is a loads of bollocks and he stays focused. SolanoI'm glad you brought him up, I meant to write something earlier... On Friday I was speaking with a friend who closely follows the Peruvian league. There is a bit of a scandal in Solano leaving Peru. Apparently he had a baby with a woman who isn't his wife. The baby is a few months old. The woman threatened to go public with it and he tried to get out of Peru before everything hit the fan and his wife found out He's basically running from his personal issues. His thinking apparently is that he can defend the story better if he was out of the country, or just escape the situation completely for a while. He took the first offer he could get,and then figured he'd work out the details from there. This may be wrong but just what I have heard from a mate of mine. http://www.nufc-forum.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=29959.30
Salieri Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Quite chuffed with this signing. He may be knocking on a bit but he could provide us with a touch of class that we've been lacking.

If he wasn't having affairs in Peru - now that would be something to set tongues wagging.

"I saw him in Asda gosforth last week,I think he would be a good signing. "
