ts_1010 Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 You reckon we can get him and his band to do the post horn gallop?
Dr The Singh Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 It's a shot to nothing signing, i'm not overly impressed but he will gives us a few more options and a wealth of experience!!
Guest Bilo Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 If nothing else, this signing should mean our set-pieces improve from now on. Wonder if he'll make his debut against Newcastle? If so, I can really see that game being close to a sellout, maybe 30,000 or so.
Corky Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 I think he'll bring something to the team. And if he doesn't we punt him out after 6 months. I'm happy with this. Might actually make us a threat from set pieces again. That's the key for me. It's a sensible contract, if he offers nothing then we get rid, if he's successful we can give him a new deal. Good work by Pearson on that front.
Hitesh Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Solano Free Kick > Goal Solano Corner (left) > Howard > Goal Solano Corner (Right) > Morrison > Goal Job Done.
MrSpaM Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Nobby Nobby Nobby boyyyyy Nobby Nobby Nobby boyyyyy Nobby Nobby Nobby Nobby Nobby Nobby Nobby Nobby boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Finaly we have a player who can teach our side how to take crosses, corners and free kicks Happy with this signing
MC Prussian Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 The Newcastle home fixture could've turned out to be a sell-out if we had signed Alan Shearer instead, but then again, we'd never have signed Shearer in the first place. Welcome to your new club, Nolberto. I hope you prove the doubters (including me) wrong and show some of your smooth skills in the months to come, do a Guppy whilst your here and teach the others how to cross and do set-pieces the right way.
Finnegan Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Never understood why people get so grouchy about signings like this. He'll bring a bit of experience, he'll cost relatively fuck all, we aren't paying him for 3 years, we don't have mass millions, he'll offer some extra options for the remainder of the season. A season in which, people apparently need to be reminded, we're massively over-performing by expectations. Christ.
maddog Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Great signing. I don't think Solano who went back to Peru recently is the sort of bloke who is only here for a big payday. 6 months means if he's past it and shite theres no real risk involved. I think he will seriously improve our midfield thats for sure, with King invisible in a lot of games, Oakley useless and Wellens going off i would rather have Solano given a go than the 3 of those playing.
maddog Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 And his first game at the Walkers would be Newcastle. The script is written for a Solano stunner and a 1-0 win.

I'm in agreement. 25 year old pacey wingers who can cross a ball to precision don't hang on trees - and if they do they cost money we don't have. We are Leicester City, not Manchester City. Solano will cost us sweet fuck all. He'll provide more options for us. He can cross a ball, which seemingly nobody in our squad can, and he's an experienced honest professional. If it doesn't work out, we haven't lost anything. And again, I go back to the Chris Powell point. He is 40 years old, and he played well for us last season - and some even want him to play now.
Joe. Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 Yes Nobby. Not complaining at this stage, Pearson is quite clearly on a shoestring so it seems like a decent signing to me.
Babylon Posted 22 January 2010 Author Posted 22 January 2010 Never understood why people get so grouchy I've never understood why people are so grouchy on here full stop... maybe they lead uneventful internet existences and are frustrated with their lives, they need to release their anger somewhere and there are only so many times you can wank over porn a day.

Scow Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 It could be just what we need - a player capable of making an impact in the final third through open play and set-pieces. I don't see the problem in it. Yes, he's 35, but Powell was approaching 40 when we signed him, and look how he turned out. Pearson has the advantage of working with him before and it's only a six month contract. I suppose he presents a threat to golden boy Gradel, so all this negativity is justified then.

And just because someone used to perform "brilliantly" at set-pieces in the past doesn't mean he'll do so for the rest of his playing career. Which brings us back to players who are (supposedly) good at set-pieces, but who (apparently) have lost the magic touch.

I'm all for a bit of an internet row in General Chat; it's usually good banter and worth a giggle - might not be everyone's cup o' tea but it does make me smile. If I'm a sad case so be it! But my problem with a lot of the moaning dross you get on here about the City is that it's not just people moaning on the net for the sakes of it, it's the kind of grumpy dross they come out with in real life and if he has one or two bad games it's all we're going to hear. I do often wonder whether every other club has such a strong contingent of whiney, complaining bastards.

I'm ecstatic about our league position but I have every right to question the in's and out's of the club. Like I said earlier I've got nothing against the Solano signing and everything you've said above in regards to Solano is spot on but whilst were getting rid of future prospects and swapping them for short term measures it leaves a lot to be desired. It's not like I spend my time complaining about a football show on tv

Finnegan Posted 22 January 2010 Posted 22 January 2010 but whilst were getting rid of future prospects and swapping them for short term measures it leaves a lot to be desired. Eh, whether we like it or not, football's a business. Gradel's apparently not what Nigel Pearson is looking for and if he'll bring a tidy fee then I personally have no issue with him being sold. You need, to some extent, to have a little faith in your manager and given what Pearson's done with his minuscule budget so far I think I'm pretty happy continuing to do so. Summer's when the best signings, the most well researched signings are made and I'm sure if Pearson recognizes a real absence of quality out wide he'll come back for a look in the summer. For now I'd rather we take on someone like Solano for a pittance than panic-buy some £2m waste of space. Who have we got that is supposedly good at set-pieces? Aye I was going to ask. Someone scores a free-kick or puts in a few good corners and we tend to go nuts but to be fair I can't remember the last time we had a quality set piece taker. Gary Parker?
