Weale - 7.5 Did exactly what was expected of him, the defence made sure he didn't have a huge amount to do.

Morrison - 9 - Solid as a rock and could well be a huge player for us in the future.

Brown - 8 - Dealt with everything Newcastle threw at him with contemptuous ease.

Hobbs - 8 -Solid, mature performance from start to finish.

Berner - 8.5 - Linked up well with Gallagher and defended brilliantly. Shows that we need McGivern like a fish needs a bicycle.

Oakley - 7 - Much improved performance.

Wellens - 5.5 - Unlucky to get sent off but made a couple of mistakes prior to that stupidly harsh decision.

King - 8 - Can't fold the lad on today's performance. Excellent

Gallagher - 8.5 - Massive improvement on the wing, looked much better.

Fryatt - 8.5 - Hungry as hell and the Newcastle back four struggled with him all night. Could have scored with a superb solo run in the second half.

Waghorn - 8 - Runs around and tries as much as Hume ever did, but twice as effective tonight.

Fryatt - 8 almost scored a wonder goal, worked hard.

Waghorn - 7.5 worked hard without looking like scoring.

Berner - 8 So nice to see a strong left back who can make the tackles.

Hobbs - 7 Didn't let much get past him at all.

Brown - 9 Superb- Great against strikers without much pace.

Morrison -8 Looked like a natural right back.

Gallagher - 7 Some great moves in play but no real final product

Wellens - 5 A little unlucky to get sent off but you could tell he would after the first yellow.

Oakley - 8 Best performance of the season for him. The formation we started with definately suited him.

King - 7 Did his job well.

Waghorn - 7.5 Good running at players and overall good performance.

Fryatt - 7.5 Fantastic run in the first half which he was so unlucky not to finish. Looked a lot faster than usual.

Solano - Didn't look to off the pace.

For City's 10-men to merit a points win over the League leaders was a special effort.

Weale 7 (One outstanding save from a vicious, swerving shot but otherwise it was testimony to our defending - and a bit of wayward shooting from distance- that he had so little to do. Apart from one desperate clearance from 2 metresout by one of his defensive colleagues I cannot really recall Newcastle carving out a genuine chance of note inside the penaty area).

Morrison 7 (I thought he did alright given our recent problems in the position. Defensively he mostly closed the access from his side and he also offered a reasonable presence again at attacking set plays)

Hobbs 7 (Steady).

Brown 9 (For me he defended everything that was thrown at him. It was never going to be a day for finesse but he got his head, body and legs in to thwart almost every challenge).

Berner 7.5 (Thank providence for Berner's timely return. It was like someone had left the bank doors open while he was away and appropriately, the Swiss left-back shut them tight. Okay, last 10 minutes he left Newcastle's wide man with a bit too much time and space - partly because the covering cavalry were knackered too. But generally his calm authority and his simple but efficient distribution was such a welcome relief and one that might have been vital).

Oakley 7 (Had a hand in creating one excellent chance for Fryatt which was blocked just before his wonder run and worked so hard).

Wellens 0 (Let the side down big time. His fist challenge would have been a booking from any referee. Did he learn and show responsibility? Not a bit. His shirt pull was totally unnecessary, albeit fairly tame. The referee was entitled to book him although he was more lenient on others as the game progressed).

King 8 (I thought he was excellent. One near-post header was blocked by an arm very close to the line and possibly warranted a penalty but he was as likely to be found as the body blocking a Newcastle shooter or simply making himself available in midfield or covering the space so the visitors ran down blind alleys.)

Gallagher 6.5 (Worked hard enough.Should have won a penalty from a second half free-kick which was handled. But still too lanuid and lightweight to make the impact his ability occasionally promises. Once he cut inside to create a Fryatt-like opportunity only to send his final shot tamely into the goalkeeper's arms).

Fryatt 8 (Hardly stopped being a thorough nuisance to the Newcastle backline. His first half run past three defenders could have given him one of the great goals of the season but he forged another good chance following a four-man move involving Waghorn and Oakley which was tipped over the bar).

Waghorn 6 (I'm still not convinced. Muscled off his big chance when through on the left, he also made his contribution to Fryatt's first chance. But otherwise it was all huff and puff with plenty of work but not much impact in the Newcastle penalty box).

Subs:

Solano showed enough touches to make me look forward to his future contributions.Dyer and Howard played periphery roles in their short time on the field).

Pearson 8 (After a boring start we became more expansive. I expected us to lose the initiative when Wellens went off but we continued creating more chances than Newcastle for all but the last 10 minutes of the hour that followed which really was a credit to both him and the team).

Back 4 - 9 for all of them and a lot of pride!

Oakley 8

Gally 8.5

King 8

Fryatt 8

Waghorn 8 Desperately wanted him to score for the abuse he was getting

Wellens 3 :nono: Having seen the replay on telly that 1st challenge could indeed have been red. Studs in and no attempt to play the ball. 2nd one was a joke ffs

Berner 9 - Met everyball well, some nice passes and runs. Missed him badly

Oakley 7

King 9 - Covered everywhere when required to do so, played well

Wellens 7 - Was brilliant untill he got send off for nothing.

Why is everyone moaning at his first challenge, he did that to stop a fast counter attack, took one for the team. See that everyweek.

Gallagher 8

Fryatt 9 - Great running, threat all game

Waghorn 7

Berner 8 - Very good against Routledge, but probably should have been sent off if the ref was consistent

Waghorn 7 - Full of running and strength, tracked back well

Oakley 8 - Best game for a long, long time

Wellens 5 - Little bit unlucky to be fair

King 7 - Did his job well

AT GAME

Weale - 7 - Faultless again. Best keeper we've had for a while.

Morrison - 8 - Excellent, the lad's got a future in the game

Brown - 8 - Back to his best, Seems as without the Muppets (Mcgivern/Neilson) he's comfortable and more confident.

Hobbs - 8 - Same as Morrison, He's been excellent all season.

Berner - 8 - Played well, Smiled when I knew he was playing, Excellent, Was maybe a little bit lucky to stay on the pitch tho.

Oakley - 8 - Impressive, Best game he's had in a city shirt for ages.

Wellens - 5.5 - Played well until the sending off. Andre Marriner the ref was woeful. Shouldn't have got sent off.

King - 7.5 - Normal service was resumed, another top performance.

Gallagher - 7.5 - Played very well, Shame he went off injured, but the standing ovation was great to see.

Fryatt - 8 - His run in the first half was simply amazing, Was almost Ryan Giggs like. Great player.

Waghorn - 8 - I would of kept him on with Howard, He played excellent, worked his backside off too.

Howard - 5.5 - Didn't do much, Bought on when we were not attacking.

Dyer - 6 - Had a good go.

Solano - 6 - Wish he had been bought on earlier.

Nigel Pearson - 8 - Great selection. Seems as if we've got our spirit back.

Fans -10 - Excellent atmosphere down there today, crowd got geared up with the Ref's boo-boos.

Andre Marriner (Ref) - 0.5 - One fan near me said, "wheres my shotgun" AGREED

FA Respect Scheme - 1 - Yes it looked quite good with the letters, with the dodgy T on the end, but you expect us to give respect, when you give us shite officials. Loved what we were singing, Bet the FA will be pissed off with, "Respect the Ref, Your having a laugh"

I would agree with most of the above except -

Thought Andre Marriner referred without fuss and Wellens was a double booking - his first could have been a straight red. There were a couple of penalty decissions that could have gone our way, but one of them he was unsighted I expect (Butt's handball) and I think he chose to ignore the free kick elbow by Carroll to avoid any controversy (see them given, seem them not so fair enough). There were plenty of blood and guts challenges but he seemed quite willing to let the game have a bit of physical, fair play to the man.

Solano - on earlier at the expense of Fryatt - no thanks.

Can see your point mate.

Nah Fryatt should of stayed on. Gallagher for Solano, Straight swap at Right Wing. Seemed as if a point was enough when Howard was brought on. Excellent though.

Because of no wellens: Next week's mid.

Except he was so inconsistent.

Wellen's was fouled badly prior to his first booking where was the yellow card for that.

Why was the Newcastle defender not booked for his foul on Gallagher just outside the box when Wellen's was given a 2nd yellow for a lesser offence?

Berner should have got a 2nd yellow

Howard should have been booked for a terrible tackle towards the end of the game

Then there's the penalties.

He certainly didn't earn my respect.

From TV, where a handball in the box is apparently no longer a penalty offence

Weale 6 - Didn't have a lot to do, looked a bit shaky on a few crosses though

Morrison 9 - Superb, his improvement since he signed has been nothing short of amazing, looks like a top class defender on this showing

Brown 9 - Always the first to hurl himself at the ball when it broke, superb

Hobbs 8 - Calm and assured

Berner 8 - Great to have him back, but could have been sent off

Oakley 9 - Best game I've seen him have for us, absolutely bossed midfield after Wellens went off

Wellens 4 - Clearly needs to be dropped on this evidence, and fortunately will have to be, nothing like his early season performances

King 8 - Another player who was back to his best

Gallagher 7 - Full of running, but set pieces generally a bit poor

Fryatt 7 - For about ten minutes in the first half he was unplayable, but couldn't possibly keep it going

Waghorn 7 - Seemed a bit subdued compared to his best, but one sublime pass

Subs: All 6, couldn't really get into the game but worked as hard as they needed to. However, we obviously lack quality strength in depth

Pearson 8 - Big credit tonight, didn't go defensive with ten men, obviously saw that Newcastle were not really on form and kept us attacking with his decisions

tbh if they want respect they should earn it by, ooh i don't know, showing some f-ing backbone and basing the desicisions on the actual incident rather than which teams and players are involved.

No body has a right to respect and ,although they should have the same amount of respect all other people do, you have to earn the right to have respect and also to keep it.

If they don't like being abused for their consistantly shite desicisions then, well i'm afraid you picked the wrong sport to be a ref in. We aren't like the rugby fans, we aren't going to critize people behind their back rather than to their face and if they've got something wrong they're damn sure gonna hear about it.

At game.

Weale 5 (The save was one you would expect a football league keeper to make, his anticipation and awareness is seemingly getting worse with high balls)

Morrison 8 (Nervy start but blossomed as the game went on, made vital tackle after vital tackle)

Hobbs 8 (Headed everything, blocked everything)

Brown 8 (Headed everything, blocked everything)

Berner 9 (Extra point for not being McGivern, was Ashley Cole-esque with his solid defence and mazy runs forward, pass me the noose if this guy gets injured again)

Gallagher 8 (Heavily involved, made good simple passes, always a threat, decent set-pieces, deserved his ovation)

Oakley 8.5 (Really excellent, good passing, won the ball often with his hassling and harrying)

King 7 (Because of us only having 10 men he didn't see the ball much but defended admirably, a good presence)

Wellens 2 (Made a weird start with some dodgy passing never mind the sending off)

Butt 9 (Efficient performance, found blue shirts with regularity, some nicely judged back passes to Weale)

Waghorn 8 (Effort and commitment every second he was on the pitch)

Fryatt 8 (Tireless performance feeding off scraps when we were down to 10, the run was incredible, anyone who thinks we should sell needs their head testing in my humble opinion)

Dyer 3 (The game was crying out for a pacy wide outlet, shame this fool kept coming inside and losing the ball)

Howard 3 (Poor substitution in my opinion, their lumps at the back nullified his threat)

Solano N/A

Andre Marriner 0 (Absolute tithead)

Too bloody right mate! My respect for that ref went out the window about 10seconds after Kick off. I couldn't give a crap about respect to the officials, They want respect when they ruin football games, and become more of a talking point than the actual match?

Good call about Rugby fans too! My mate went to Welford Road a few weeks ago, and he was shouting in the new stand, Eventually Stewards came to him and went Beserk. Apparently your not meant to be that vocal at rugby matches.

Weale 7: Clean sheet and in the main dealt with what came his way

Morrison 9: Thought he had an exceptional game defensively - positional sense at RB excellent today - hopefully he'll be playing for us for years to come

Hobbs 8: Cracking performance this evening, extremely solid, much more like he was playing earlier in the season

Brown 9: Did Alex Bruce watching on had an effect, as he threw himself into everything today, and seemed to apologise to Weale for a rediculous lack of communication early on

Berner 8: He made a real difference to the side today - a bit lucky not to have been given a red card for his second half challenge - but for a first game in 6 weeks against Routledge he was fantastic

Gallagher 7: A little bit in and out while he was on, but 1 piece of fantastic skill when he pulled the ball down and turned was a glimspe of what he can do

King 8: Did the simple things very well - covered a massive amount of ground, so much so that our midfield didn't really look stretched without Wellens

Wellens 4: Threw himself about, soon as he got booked you could see a red card coming. Stupidity we could do without. Let his team-mates down, luckily they seemed to do better without him.

Oakley 8: So much better in central midfield with King.

Waghorn 7: Loads of energy - really should have done better with the chance he had 2nd half. Calmer head needed

Fryatt 8: Led line well, tackled back, worried their centre-halves throughout. Looked premier class today

Dyer 6: Couple of strong challenges, rubbish header out of defence we were luck to get away with.

Howard 5: Very isolated, won headers, but nobody there to pick them up, and he has clearly completely lost any energy he may have once had, which encouraged Newcastle to run through from defence.
