The Doctor Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 By the way, Where did 11 shots off target, and 6 on target for newcastle come from? My blindness creeping in again then. i only remember one shot on target from newcastle - that long ranger straight into weales arms from the full back. Bet they're including all the blocked shots
TrickyTrev Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 I really enjoyed the match, great to see The Walkers full. Thought we played quite well and were well worthy of a point. Kind of hung on in the end, don't know if we ran out of energy or if playing Howard up top on his own gave us no outlet, probably a mixture of the two.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Really could have scraped the win but we seemd to lopk very tired at the end with them controlling the game, so I'm happy with the draw. Oakley had a good game as did Brown which is pleasing considering their recent form.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 i only remember one shot on target from newcastle - that long ranger straight into weales arms from the full back.Bet they're including all the blocked shots Yeah probably, Brown played excellently by throwing himself infront of everything. Only 1 i can remember is the offside goal.
lildave3 Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Not read the thread, but there's bound to be some people slating the ref. Personally thought he was fine, only two things I disagreed on was when he didn't book that guy for crippling Gallagher on the edge and also Bruno could easily have walked. But good, fighting performance from the players tonight. Much better. I thought starting with Waggy on the right, Gallagher on the left and Fryatt up top was a pretty decent setup to start with but once Wellens got sent off and we went 2 up top we seemed to have more about us. Bruno was phenomenal, Morrison was pretty solid as per and King just does his job. Love King.
Jonezy Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Enjoyed this game on a pub in Copenhagen. What a great, great performance. Except for Wellens, the stupid plank - should have been sent off for the first offense, and even though the second was a tad harsh, it was still a very bookable offence. Berner was also slacking with his discipline, and was very lucky not to leave us with nine men on the field, but his brilliant efforts throughout the game might shade this near costly lack of discipline. Fryatt is a one man army and Morrison is the sex, but the whole team deserves praise for that performance. Loved the commitment, and hopefully we can build on this and create some momentum, so we don't have to slack the refs of, when they are actually doing a pretty decent job.
Thracian Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 By the way, Where did 11 shots off target, and 6 on target for newcastle come from? My blindness creeping in again then. Butt had a few from distance - seemed to be trying to hit the Clock Tower.
maddog Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Bruno, Bruno, Bruno If McGivern was playing, we probably would have lost, Bruno was crucial.
BoneDog Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 The challenge was nothing more than a hand on the shoulder, no pulling no nothing. Pearson knew it even if our resident halfsharps missed it. Crap card. It was a soft card in my opinion, but he put his hand on his shoulder and started to pull him back and I think that is a booking in the rules refs give them often for these things.
Karljohn Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Proud of the lads tonight, made up for the piss poor effort at Barnsley. Welcome back Bruno Berner.
haraven Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 One can only join the choir of praise - a real team performance, we were the better team, and if the lads can play like this week out week in we'll be doing damn fine come May.
Daggers Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 It was a soft card in my opinion, but he put his hand on his shoulder and started to pull him back and I think that is a booking in the rules refs give them often for these things. Watch it on TV.
Thracian Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Just reflecting ... Pearson got his "clean sheet" Just the goals problem to deal with now although at least it wasn't for the lack of trying today, difficult as the cirumstances became.
lou Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 He put his hand on his shoulder but didnt pull him back and you can clearly see Routledge lose his footing.... no contact from Wellens. Definately didnt "hack him down" dunno where Maddog saw that?
Jimmy Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 think we definatly need to keep that system in place after today, it allows our most gifted/creative players to have more of an influence
z-layrex Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 I thought we were fooked when Wellens got himself needlessly sent off, but LC were just outstanding even with 10 men. Now why cant they play with this kind of spirit every week?
Salieri Posted 30 January 2010 Author Posted 30 January 2010 think we definatly need to keep that system in place after today, it allows our most gifted/creative players to have more of an influence i.e play Gallagher in the middle ffs!
Dobson25 Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Newcastle didn't look much though did they? Hughton's tactics were dreadful. Why play a tall gyppo, Who's only really good with his head, against Hobbs and Brown? Pancrate = Waste of cash, And for Collacini (Or however it's spelt) 10million? Oh dear. cmon collocini is without doubt one of the best center backs in the league and pancrate was a free transfer so nor exactly a waste of money mate
Dobson25 Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 He put his hand on his shoulder but didnt pull him back and you can clearly see Routledge lose his footing.... no contact from Wellens. Definately didnt "hack him down" dunno where Maddog saw that? No contact! Are u I'll. Should have got a straight red anyway for th first booking.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 As soon as Wellens put his hands on Routledge's shoulder, he ran the risk of a second yellow. 'You see them given.'
z-layrex Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 As soon as Wellens put his hands on Routledge's shoulder, he ran the risk of a second yellow.'You see them given.' I agree. Especially as the ref had his eye on him.
Bugg Posted 31 January 2010 Posted 31 January 2010 Anyone see them two blokes boot two toon fans, the newcastle fans said nothing, some bloke just walked over and started for no reason. it was just off filbert street by the way.
samuel Posted 31 January 2010 Posted 31 January 2010 Had City played with today's team and with today's endeavour they wouldn't have let their travelling fans down at Oakwell and they might have been back in the play-off positions tonight. For an hour 10 heroic men played Newcastle this way and that. And when they lost the ball they harried with an urgency that ensured it was soon recovered. Far from ruining the game as I expected Wellens' sending off sounded the fanfares for City that heralded a determination to survive that wouldn't have shamed an SAS team. Quite why City didn't get a penalty from Gallagher's free-kick when a defender raised his arms towards the ball and deflected it to safety with his elbow I don't know. It was further argument for the use of replays. They might even have had another shout when a near-post header by Andy King was stopped going goalwards with an arm. But the moment of the match - and it could have been one of the best I've seen in football was when Fryatt cut in from the left, beat three men in a mazy dribble and, after a final dummy, had the goal at his mercy only to be somewhat cramped by Waghorn which meant his pulling his shot narrow and into a defender. Had the ball gone in it would have been the goal of a lifetime and just reward for his efforts to breach the visiting defence. What a difference Berner and Kingy made in glueing together our recently leaking and laborious defence. Even with a man advantage Newcastle hardly rang a single alarm bell - not even in the last 10 minutes when they finally gained territorial advantage as we ran out of the steam to defend higher up. The cameo debut of Solano offered further encouragement on a day of pluses. In his brief appearance he made two or three classy contributions to show that he really can place a ball on a sixpence. Mind you he'll have to show far more urgency in defence where he looked about as useful as Sean Newton of yesteryear at first glance. Well done City. It was as gutsy a 0-0 as you'll ever see and one where, had it been judged on points, I'd had credited the game to City by some way. As for the sending off of Wellens it was technically correct but spiritually innocuous. Fairly booked for a rash challenge he later gave a something and nothing pull on an opponent's shirt in a harmless position near the middle of the park. Berner, later, survived what looked like a much more justified sending off and Brown was later shown to be virtually arm-wrestling a striker without being penalised at all. There was just no consistency. For all that Wellens seemed to get a talking to from Pearson and if so, quite right. It was a silly thing to do and it left his team-mates with a double shift they, thankfully, seemed to relish. this
BoneDog Posted 31 January 2010 Posted 31 January 2010 Watch it on TV. I've watched it again on the Football League show and he never pulled him back as I thought, he only put his hand on his shoulder and the guy just stumbled or decided to go down. Harsh booking and I think the ref made the decision after he saw the hand on the shoulder.
Fosse Boy Posted 31 January 2010 Posted 31 January 2010 Good work. To hold the league leaders with ten men and to look the more lively of the two sides (thought Routledge was their only real threat to be honest) was no mean feat. Hope that shuts a few of you knee-jerk cunts up for a while. Nice to see Bruno back. Could anyone hear Newcastle sing? I couldn't hear a fucking thing. They were loud once in the second half, but hardly heard 'em in L1 apart from that. Saw my mate in the Newcastle end swinging his shirt around his head like a nutter though. "SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETS!!!!!"
