Bert Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Personally, I think he has to. As much as he is an idiot for doing what he's done, I don't believe leaving him out of the World Cup squad will achieve anything, let alone our chances of winning the World Cup. We don't have a defender like him and he'd be sorely missed imo. I do believe he should be stripped of the captaincy though, how can players look up to him and take inspiration from him after doing the dirty on one of his best mates? I'll support him whilst he's playing for England, but that's it.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 I hope he's still England's captain nevermind him just going to the World Cup.
Fox You Forest Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Without doubt he should be in the squad, as captain though I have no idea.
Asha Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Definitely in the squad, but not as captain. As been said, he's supposed to be setting a professional example to all kids who are growing up watching him. But then who do you give the captaincy to? Gerrard? (Assault in a bar), Ferdinand? (Drugs ban), Ashley Cole?
Guest Bilo Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Personally, I think he has to. I'll support him whilst he's playing for England, but that's it. To strip him of the captaincy might be a good idea, especially if Wayne Bridge is on the plane, but to remove him from the squad altogether would massively unsettle the squad and leave us short of one of the best centre halves in the game. The only question then would be who would take up the captaincy? Gerrard has done a fantastic job as Liverpool captain in the past and they look a shadow of themselves when he isn't around, however his incredibly lucky escape from an assault conviction hardly makes him a paragon of virtue. Ferdinand could be another candidate after captaining Man United admirably but his lapses in concentration while on England duty could damage us at the worst possible time, and that missed drug test can come back to haunt him if he's chosen. That's the problem, the most senior England players are all either tainted or unsuitable or the captaincy in some way so Capello has to balance who would be most respected off the field with who would do the best job on it. In the end, we have to accept his decision as he knows better than anyone how it affects the squad. As for Terry, he's a stupid twat for doing what he has done. However, football has to be chief in everybody's mind this summer and it would be the football that would suffer from his omission. He has to be on the plane to South Africa, and if we win the World Cup he'll still return a hero, but this could blow up if any further details are revealed about his conduct.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Yeah he should go, and be captain. Despite all of this. He's a class player. My mate reckons he should be stripped of captaincy and Beckham should have one last hurrah with it
StanSP Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 For me, it's simple - keep the private life and career separate. Let him do what he wants off the pitch. As Lee Dixon mentioned on MOTD2 yesterday, a professional footballer on a football pitch is where he feels he can get his mind off things and do what he loves doing. This private matter hasn't distracted him from his performances, and I don't think it will in the future either. Whether he committed adultery or not, he's still one of the best centre-backs England will take to SA. Capello would be giving in to the distorted and we'll-blow-everything-out-of-proportion crazy media if he takes the captaincy away from Terry.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 My mate reckons he should be stripped of captaincy and Beckham should have one last hurrah with it Make Rooney captain. So going from a love cheat to another love cheat then. It's pointless.
Guest Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 To be honest, this is just the latest in a growing number of misdemeanours; to suggest Terry is dropped is because of the latest one is going to far. Questionable over the captaincy. As long as he hasn't lost the dressing room, I can't see another alternative. It's not like there's a plethora of squeaky clean characters to choose from.
Bridge Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Leave him at home..as a matter of fact the whole back line should stay home. I'm a bit biased though..
TrickyTrev Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 He should be in the squad if he apologizes to Bridge. He should never have been captain.
Tilley Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Lets just keep Wayne Bridge off the plane to South Africa seeing as he is shit. Also, as someone else pointed out, the 'big' players all have some history, Gerrard, Rooney etc. It will blow over soon and no one will give a crap.
Libertine Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Ideally, he would be stripped of the captaincy. The problem is I don't think we have anyone else to step up to the role. Gerrard is a great captain but doesn't seem to work for England. Rooney? Meh, no matter how great he is I don't see him as a captain. Owen Hargreaves would be our best bet.
StanSP Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 He should be in the squad if he apologizes to Bridge. He should never have been captain. So if he doesn't apologise, he shouldn't go? Fuck Bridge.
Libertine Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Fuck Bridge. Maybe if his wife did that more often we wouldn't be having this problem... Sorry.
lildave3 Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Oh my god i'm sick of hearing about this bollocks if i'm honest. Couldn't give a shit about what he did. And the 'Team Bridge' nonsense is cringeworthy and a load of shite.

tartanowl Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Surely both of them can't go to SA now? I'd be amazed if he is going to be able to command the same respect in the dressing room too.
Webbo Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Aren't most football WAGS whores anyway? Why is this shocking That's right blame the women. Nothing like a bit of generalising.
Finnegan Posted 1 February 2010 Posted 1 February 2010 Football's played on the field, life's played off it. Of course he should go.
