Jimothy Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Bet 'Arry is delighted sitting at home watching this. Losing two players in one night!
Guest ttfn Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Joe Hart looks like he is going to be a top, top goalkeeper. He just never looks like conceding.
Matt Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Stunning result for Northern Ireland. Also great result for England, but they've been a tad ropey at the back, Joe Hart fantastic again. Always are, a big worry for me. Well done England, It was only Bulgaria (No disrespect to Bulgaria, and we can only beat what is infront of us) but played well and got a good result, can't ask for any more.
Webbo Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 4-0 to the Ingermongs . That's spoilt a few people's night.
Fox You Forest Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 He just never looks like conceding. Apart from when Johnson has one of the many lapses of concentration he has during a game.
Joe. Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Very good result that, didn't expect us to walk away from this one so comfortably. On the whole there were good displays from pretty much everyone, in particular the front two who worked excellently together tonight. Defoe got his hat-trick, two goals of which were perfect demonstrations of how to finish. Rooney, despite looking fairly tame in front of goal, was superb in turning provider all game long for various members of the team. Full-backs got forward at every single opportunity and that took so much pressure off the wide men. Very nice to see. And finally, if Adam Johnson doesn't start on Tuesday there's something very wrong.
Lillehamring Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 nice to see england back on track after the disappointing world cup... anyone have the highlights or a link? oh, and norway won 1-2, good start but not a great performance - just wish i could spare the 50-odd quid to go see them play portugal on tuesday.
purpleronnie Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 I've said it before and I'll say it again, defoe is by far and away the best striker for england.
The Doctor Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 dominated lithuania, should have won, deserved to win but negative tactics and poor finishing cost us dear (now where has that been said about a craig levein team before?). Still on to 3 points v liechstenstien
lildave3 Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 I love Joe Hart, so cocky but brilliant Love watching Defoe, his third goal was fantastic to me, stunning finisher. Good to see Northern Ireland winning too, cracking result.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 France losing at home to... Belarus. Beautiful. Just, beautiful.
MC Prussian Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 On a sidenote, I think England will walk all over us on Tuesday. Both sides will probably start out on the nervy side, but the way Switzerland is playing these days, the dire type of football practiced by Hitzfeld and his peers means no good. The squad selection's a touchy decision, as King Ottmar is still trying to integrate a lot of unknowns or unfit players into the starting eleven. Alex Frei, our currently most prolific goalscorer and captain with a knack for tap-ins, standards, spitting (remember Euro 2004) and a big gob, missed a penalty in today's test against Australia. Probably his first miss ever. He got booed and whistled off the pitch, as he was substituted in the 67th minute. Not overly optimistic about this one. If England take their chances and come up with a little self-confidence, they'll edge this 2-1 or 3-1. Although some of our youngsters might provide a decent surprise, like Costanzo or Shaqiri.
C-man Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Missed the first goal but from the 7th minute till half-time all I saw was utter guff from England. It was described as a 'satisfactory' performance by the pundits at the break but other than the goal we hardly tested Mihaylov. Having said that, they didn't particularly threaten either and the displays of Jagielka and Hart were encouraging. England were way too cumbersome on the ball and frustratingly played long towards Walcott or Defoe on numerous occasions with Gerrard and Barry seemingly content (too lazy) to try and win the second ball. Rooney clearly noticed this and started picking the ball up off the back four himself in the second half. We looked ever so shaky at the start of the second period and really should have been pegged back but fair play to England, they counter attacked well and Rooney made a terrific decision for the killer second goal. The loss of Dawson was a real shame and led to further confusion at the back but luckily we seem to have produced a real gem between the sticks. Well done to A. Johnson (G. Johnson was terrible throughout) on his first England goal. Thoroughly deserved. Has to start ahead of Walcott for me. Gerrard was average and isn't it about time Barry retired? Fair play to Defoe, superb finishing! I suppose people will look at this post and think I'm being incredibly negative considering the result, but I'm truly bewildered as to how we managed to keep a clean sheet and score four against, lets face it, a pretty abysmal Bulgaria. There were some positives....
lildave3 Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Oh yeah, forgot to mention Jagielka was a monster.
Tommeh Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 If Hart, Gary Cahill and A.Johnson can get established in the first team throughout this qualifying campaign, (I'd probably add Jack Rodwell also) and players such as Barry, Terry and Lampard are fvcked off then there could be a bright future for England. Under Capello however I canny see it. Defoe and Milner may have done well but I'm not sold on either at this level. Although the formers 3rd was a fantastic finish.
BlueSi13 Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Great result, though a little harsh on Bulgaria imo, they had enough of the ball to deserve a less emphatic score against them Player wise the big winners for me were Hart, Defoe, Cole, and Johnson, cracking performances from them 4. Much tougher test against Switzerland on Tuesday however. Also nice to see the Welch get embarrassed , it wasn't a surprise of course but the feeling is always a pleasant one
Mikey Posted 4 September 2010 Posted 4 September 2010 Rooney was class. Obviously Defoe is worth a mention, as well as Hart and Jagielka impressing me.
Corky Posted 4 September 2010 Posted 4 September 2010 Only saw the second half, and it was, on the whole, a decent performance. Bulgaria aren't great but they still showed some threatening signs, but after Defoe's second England looked firmly in control and likely to score again. Very pleased for Defoe, clinical finishing and pleased also for Adam Johnson getting his first goal for his country. I hope Michael Dawson is okay, that looked a nasty injury, and in Joe Hart we look to have a goalkeeper that the defence have confidence in and he commands his area well. Still a long way to go but an encouraging start. Well done to Northern Ireland too, terrific away win.
MikeyT Posted 4 September 2010 Posted 4 September 2010 From SSN website Michael Dawson has been released from the England squad following his knee injury sustained against Bulgaria. The Tottenham centre-half, 26, was carried off during the second-half of the 4-0 win at Wembley, with what appeared to be a serious-looking knee problem. Dawson, who had been impressive in the heart of the Three Lions defence alongside Phil Jagielka, had a scan on the injury on Saturday and has now returned to Spurs. England boss Fabio Capello expressed concern for the defender in the aftermath of the victory, but will not be calling up a replacement for the clash with Switzerland on Tuesday. A statement released by the Football Association said: "Following a scan on his knee this morning, Michael Dawson will miss England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland on Tuesday. "England and Tottenham Hotspur medical staff were in contact this morning and Dawson has now returned to his club for further treatment. "There will be no further call-ups." Dawson was part of England's World Cup squad this summer, but was only called to South Africa following an injury to Rio Ferdinand before the start of the tournament. He played in a warm-up against African outfit Platinum Stars, before making his full debut in a friendly against Hungary last month and receiving his second cap for the Bulgaria clash.
Corky Posted 4 September 2010 Posted 4 September 2010 Apparently it's six to eight weeks out, according to SSN.
