Play offs and Wembley (Keep the faith)

United have a lot standing at Wembley behind the goal.

Play Off Final is the same day as the Champs League Final isnt it? May 22nd?

It is, I doubt i'll warm to the Champtions League final on a Saturday evening, we'll see though.

Incidentally, I'm sure this has been mentioned, but they seem to have double booked next years PO final with the CL final at Wembley, so next years final could find itself moves to either a week earlier in May or pushed to June (the former most likely)

Hmm, I've seen Southampton, Cambridge and Millwall all stood behind the goal and realistically it's the only place we would stand should we get there.

I went to the Paint Pot final and thought the view was decent and Carlisle even managed to get a few thousand up in the second half.

But compared to the 90+% of man u, villa, southampton, millwall etc... that stand at 'normal' away games the percentages take a huge hit when they travel to wembley, the fact that leicester fans dont stand on mass very often thesedays makes me think they'll be little or no standing if we reach the finals.

boys boys boys chill out. people will go to wembley whatever the price and people will or won't stand does it really matter as long as we win if we got there!

Word of warning - we can't play at home on 8th May as it'll clash with a Tigers game (the last day of the rugby Premiership season).

So the game would be moved to either the Friday or Sunday (probably the latter, especially if Forest are the opponents).

It won't be that simple, Sky will have a massive say in the matter and as it is play-off semis I think the tigers/city not playing on the same day would be lifted. BUT if it is Forest then it will be diffrent yet again.

Really? Sky can say what they want, but if the police (and other members of the Safety Advisory Group) don't grant a safety certificate for the game, it won't be going ahead.

Well of course, but what I think he's getting at is that Sky money could probably prevail in the end, especially seeing as it's a PO semi-final. I mean take the Cardiff v. Swansea game a couple of weeks ago - there's no way on earth that would have been a Saturday 5pm kick-off had it not been for Murdoch's cameras. Same with Spurs v. Chelsea this week-end, which is kicking off (probably in both senses of the word) at 5.30 on Saturday. Both of those fixtures have been noon kick-offs (in the case of the SW derby, even 11am on a Sunday if I remember correctly) in the past, but I think the tide has now just turned. I have no doubt that if they really wanted a Saturday kick-off, Sky could get it. I do however think that they wouldn't be averse to a Sunday game so that is an option.

If we do end up scheduled to play a Saturday afternoon game (and thus clash with the Tigers), and the SAG don't allow (as a one-off) for both matches to go ahead on the same day - which, incidentally, I think would be incredibly puerile, especially given that we've been playing on the same day for years and years before this season, albeit with a smaller Welford Road - then the club should not just throw in the towel and instantly agree to move . The way the club gave in last season with our final home game looked like a joke but their hands were tied by Sky (or rather, by their non-involvement). Both games were scheduled on that day months ahead, the only difference being that the Tigers were playing their final game of the season and we were not, and the rugby authorities stipulated that all their matches had to kick off at the same time on the same day. They won in the end. And the reasons why they won? Because Sky had scheduled and paid for a last-day of the rugger season bonanza, whilst our game was not scheduled to be televised. If we make it through to the play-offs this year, the game will undoubtedly be covered, and we will be in a better position to fight our corner. And I for one will feel fooking let down if the club give in like they did last year.

don't think so. The PO Final is a week or two earlier than usual this year because of the world cup, next year it should be back to the Bank Holiday Monday

I think the key thing here is that the dates for the play off games are not cast in stone, and Sky and the Football League could schedule around our police/SAG's requirements.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that we should be able to cope with a football and a rugby game taking place at the same time, but I wouldn't be surprised if we played on the Sunday, if we finish 5th or 6th.

Another thought; why so anti-Sunday? All of the 1st leg semis we have played in were on a Sunday, with the 2nd leg on the following Wednesday. As I recall, nobody objected to it then. dunno.gif

Sadly, so what i hear, the rules of the Egg Shaped game state that all games must kick off at the same time on the final day...

It's the same as the round shaped game. It's the police that say we can't play on the same day, no one can blame the Tigers for this.

what allocation do teams generally get at wembley (taking into account the empty prawn sandwich brigade seats)? i'll die if i can't go but i almost always buy tickets at the gate so i'll certainly have no kind of priority :sweating:

me and a lad at college realised earlier that if we make it to wembley.......well be on a college expedition

and your dilemma is? :dunno:

No brainer, surly?

We would get around 35,000. So it would reach general sale.

Lot of work to do before we even consider wembley yet though.

Have no choice. Part of the course. Miss this, fail the course. If I could miss it and we were in the play off final id fook it off without a first thought lol

But surely you're gonna be really ill and unable to go on the expedition?

Will there be some sort of priority system in place for the home playoff game? I'm a ST holder and I'll be ****ing gutted if I miss out cos the fairweather's have come out in full force.

Hope we don't kick up a fuss if our semi is moved away from Saturday afternoon - that's the one point in the whole weekend that I wouldn't be able to go. Friday, Saturday lunchtime or Sunday would be fine. But Saturday afternoon / evening will be a real problem. So let's let the egg chasers have their afternoon in the sun, OK? And not finish fourth.

Nah, they're just going to throw all the tickets into an expectant crowd and let us fight it out amongst ourselves
