Appreciate it's a joke, but question 1 irritates me!

Yes, died a fairly old man (for the time) in exile of stomach ulcers.

I always like to point out, when Abba's Waterloo comes on the radio, that the lyric, "at Waterloo, Napoleon did surrender," is factually incorrect. He legged it and left his generals to surrender.

He surrendered a month later when the port he was hoping to escape to another country from was blockaded by British ships.

History lesson over lol

Maybe I’m being dumb but I don’t get what the bottle top refers to for the EU.

Have you noticed they tie all the caps to plastic bottles to aid recycling…. Drives a lot of people nuts…

Oh I thought it was something to do with AI.

Americans have convinced themselves that Europe has no technology or innovation.

On the big stuff Europe is behind, but we still innovate, but never get the same scale….

The deepseak thing appears (at first glance) to be highly innovative…

you should never have to explain the joke, but the assumption is that we’re so tied up in playing around the edges at piffling irrelevancies…. And there is more than a grain of truth in that…

I thought it was funny anyway!

To be fair we have anti-obesity drugs and planes that don't try to kill you, two things useful for Americans.

I’m not sure I want AI to become so innovative tbh. The internet has passed the threshold from being good for society to bad for society for me. And AI scares me even more. Recycling sounds like a much better thing than private corporations and nation states both aggressively trying to get ahead in AI

Edit: Going off topic now though, I guess this belongs in the General News thread.

To say nothing of restrictions on firearms that do at least a reasonable job of stopping someone going into a school with them and opening fire.

It does feel like we've reached the point where, with AI, maybe just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
