BlueSi13 Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 Beating spain, flukey? No sorry i meant that its quite obvious that the Americans are better than Spain all over the park, hence their victory.
davieG Posted 13 June 2010 Author Posted 13 June 2010 And they wonder why a majority of the World thinks there arseholes and go OTT on things. Hoping for Slovenia 2nd place big time Like the English media doesn't, they probably take their lessons from the Sun.
Edmund Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 I seem to remember that there were plenty of know alls who thought it was laughable that Leicester could make the playoffs ,iIrc one of them was you. They were all pretty quiet come April. Not me. I've always been fairly optimistic with Pearson at the helm. Anyway to look at it with a glass half full, hopefully the result kicks them up the arse and they don't become complacent. Just watching the Germans tonight brings up a very valid point Klinsmann brought up the other day. When asked why they always do well in tournaments in comparison to England he said it's down to the media. The German media don't put their team down at every opportunity and paint them in a positive mold. It shows as their players go and play with no fear.
Matt Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 Like the English media doesn't, they probably take their lessons from the Sun. More fool them then.

I've rarely heard anyone as scathing and critical of the national team as the Germans when they don't win more or less every game convincingly. The country and the media expect, and the team mostly delivers I tell you, you wouldn't have wanted to be a German player after the 1994, 1998 and especially the 2000 debacle. By 2004 they'd accepted they were no longer among the best in the world which led to the team's chances being dismissed and ridiculed even before the 2006 World Cup had started.
Guest Bilo Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 Haha Cringe doesn't even begin to cover it. Would love Slovenia to finish ahead of them.
Bert Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 I'm sure some people don't actually know what cringe means. Anyway. Apart from one stupid gaff from the worst of the three goalies in the squad, I thought we weren't troubled too often, only from long range. They got in behind us once and a goal was only prevented by a lucky save. Green shouldn't play for England again. Carson and Robinson both made high profile gaffs and haven't (if barely) featured since, so what's the difference with Green? He's cost us a massive advantage. We wasted so many chances, whether it be shots, or other opportunities, simply down to poor decision making. SWP was terrible and Lampard was pretty ineffective along with Rooney who did, well nothing. Heskey, Gerrard, and Cole stood out for me, the first two for pretty obvious reasons, but the latter for his defending and discipline as it's well known he likes to attack. If we play like that in the next two games we'll have no danger of qualifying.
Guest Bilo Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 Cringe = To recoil in distaste. Which is what I did when I saw that headline. It's cringeworthy to claim victory after a draw when your own team is ranked in the top 20. Pretty sure I know what cringe means.

Surely if you're taking this stance, it's more embarrassing than cringeworthy.

Your most probably right. I was just quoting what Klinsmann said.
Jordan Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Like the English media doesn't, they probably take their lessons from the Sun. More fool them then. I'm guessing you two have never heard of News Corporation.
davieG Posted 14 June 2010 Author Posted 14 June 2010 I'm guessing you two have never heard of News Corporation. Yes but I don't read or watch it, suffice to say like I said we are (England) hardly in a position to criticise USA media hype when we have the likes of the Sun.
Jordan Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Yes but I don't read or watch it, suffice to say like I said we are (England) hardly in a position to criticise USA media hype when we have the likes of the Sun. I only made that snide comment because the New York Post and the Sun are both owned by a certain Mr. Murdoch. So, you've got a pretty good idea of the content you'll find in our own bastion of yellow journalism. No Page 3 girls here, though.
Samilktray Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 England striker Emile Heskey believes the Jabulani World Cup match ball contributed to his bad miss against the United States in Saturday's 1-1 draw. Full story - Daily Mail Yes Emile, the ball is why you missed. Tuuuuwattttttttt.
poopbutt Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 well to be fair i can see the logic behind it, he still should have slotted it. what i don't understand is why we didn't play through the centre more where we had our best chances and instead kept putting in shit balls from the flanks. v frustrating. after the first four times the yanks cleared the ball you'd think top flight players might realise it isn't working and try something different.
Tommeh Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Some of these goons will actually blame Heskeys miss or injuring Ferdinad for Englands exit if he doesn't kick another ball. SWP's miss was much more criminal anyhow.
Samilktray Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Yeah SWP's miss playing on the flank hes uncomfortable on was much more criminal than Heskey firing directly at Howard in a 1 on 1. Have a word
dandannieldanok Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 well to be fair i can see the logic behind it, he still should have slotted it. How? This ball is meant to be a nightmare for keepers, if anything it should have made it easier for Heskey not more difficult. Yeah SWP's miss playing on the flank hes uncomfortable on was much more criminal than Heskey firing directly at Howard in a 1 on 1. Have a word Exactly, SWP's was harder and he's not a striker anyway. At least he won a corner from his unlike Heskey.
Tommeh Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Wright Phillips was a pass back and it came onto his right foot a treat. Heskey criminal miss or not, easily our main threat.
dandannieldanok Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Heskey criminal miss or not, easily our main threat. How can a striker that doesn't score goals be our main threat?!?!
Tilley Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Heskey shouldn't be anywhere near a international team, I'll say again, if he hadn't played for Leicester everyone on here would be saying the same. The miss on Saturday summed this up, crap.
