I can't understand people saying USA played better than England.. its just not true.

We played well. We are always going to find it hard to score if Rooney is going to play as a centre mid leaving Heskey up front by himself who apart from the miss did have a great match.

I was most surprised to see that the USA midfield was just as good as the English one, if not a tad bit better. Sad to see Emile Ivanhoe not scoring on his chance - the man has deserved it.

Only saw the first half and USA were the better team - England played in fits and starts constantly using Heskey as the focal point (truly world class football).

I knew we were going to be shaky at the back and it cost us dearly in the 4th minute (to be fair, it wasn't necessarily a back four problem as Clark should have been tracking Gerrard... wait, why was Clark starting instead of Edu again?). But yes, I was shocked to see the U.S. knock the ball around the way they did in the first half, especially considering as we're more of a counterattacking team, and even more so against "better" opposition.

Green's mistake was hilarious and a lucky goal, yes, but 1) that's what you get for having shitty goalkeepers and 2) luck is just a bulb that shines when the current is on--it was England's just desserts as we were definitely the better team at that point.

The U.S. sat back in the 2nd but anyone that doesn't think 1-1 is a fair result is kidding himself.

I still think we're both going through but I'm definitely interested to see what Slovenia-Algeria brings tomorrow (not looking forward to the 7:30 am kickoff though!)

As for your prospects in the games to be played in July, well, what Radovan's Carovan said lol Findley and Altidore ran Terry and King/Carragher ragged today, and I'd dread to see how your back line would hold up against, say, Messi, Higuain and Tevez running wildly. Not that I'd be confident in our back four holding firm against them, mind you... :sweating:

Gerrard was quality today- best player on the pitch. Heskey put in a good shift just a shame he couldn't put away that chance.

Gerrard was never the best on the pitch today. Onyewu deserves that title.

Don't jump on the 'it was Rooney's fault' bandwagon. He didn't get ANY service whatsoever which forced him to drop deep. Who pulled Onyewu away and thus created the space for Gerrard to run into for the goal? I can't have been the only one noticing how Rooney would make intelligent runs into and inside the box only for them to be ignored. No it wasn't his best game by any means, but when a quick free kick into his feet and an overhit cross is the best service he gets all night, what's he supposed to do?

Rooney didnt touch the ball until the 17th minute and didnt touch the ball in their penalty box until the 71st minute.

Im not buying into the blaming Green idea- we really should of made more of our chances and when you have such poor service to Rooney and an un-prolific striker such as Heskey playing then you will always struggle... As great as Heskey is at linking up play... If you are going to play him then you really need to focus on getting more ammo up to Rooney.

Also:

why play Milner if he was not 100% fit? especially with being ill before the game.. its not like it was a total suprise that he wasnt fit.. Is the 1st game of a world cup really the game to be taking risks?

Why are they relying on Ledley King and then taking him off at half time? As good as he is... thats 2 of our subs used up by half time and so will of course limit our ability to make tactical changes during the second half..

SWP on the left wing?

is there an emoticon for frustrated?

grrr

Just realized that maybe Green can blame it on the Jabulani--all the cool kids have been doing that over the past month.

In no part of my post did I say it was Rooney's fault.

Sorry, I read it as though you blamed Rooney for dropping into midfield occasionally.

It's probably the camera angle or the resized image but the ball doesn't even look round in your sig.

Just noticed that--maybe I should lay off Mr. Green... :/

(rest assured I'll change my sig soon, but to be fair it's not nearly as bad as what you'll see splattered across the red tops tomorrow)

Watched the game at a rather large beer garden here in Munich and trust me on this, we are a laughing stock after the result tonight.

Once again we choke when it gets down to business. Embarrassed and let down is how i feel.

Also though Green is doubtless a good keeper, that must never happen on a stage like that, he should not play again in this tournament for me.

Just had a thought... perhaps it's a good thing he's got this out of the way before we hopefully get through to the knockout rounds!

Remember Seaman vs Brazil... better this happened now and we recover from it than have it happen when we get through and face... I dunno... France.

Hillarious bag of shite. Did any of you seriously expect. Better?

The usual unambitious shit. Get a goal, concentrate on defending til we lose it. No getting numbers into the opposing penalty area. Unimaginative, predictable, utterly ordinary, mostly negating football. As for the mistake - totally juvenile.

This and this sums it up for me. The annoying thing is it didn't surprise me and was always expected.

England to win the world cup

Fucking Americans I hate the cunts they'll be living on this for the next 60 years....

But as someone (forgot who) said earlier look at most of the World Cup winners, majority of them have started slow but got better as tournament progressess...yes I am still holding on to that little glimmer of hope.#

...Fucking 1-1 against the USoffucckingA...We don't deserve to win the world cup**

**I am pissed, and probably regret this in the morning :dunno:

One thing that I don't understand after reading it is this quote from the bbc sport website...

***According to Opta statistics, too, Green made more errors leading to goals than any other player in the Premier League last season***

why are we using him in our world cup bid then? Apparently its 4 instances he made errors on over the season that lead to goals, how many didn't??

A keeper makes one mistake and is blamed for the entire result.

The outfield players all made errors which result in the draw.

Apart from the error did Green do anything wrong? a pretty fair game i thought, and a crackin save in the 2nd half.

A poor performance by many players led to the poor draw.

nevertheless, we will win the group and go through :)

The BBC Highlights peed me off last night...

Just slagged off Heskey for missing his chance, not Gerrard, Rooney or Flamps for playing shit! (Shame on you Gary! :( )

At least ex-Arsénal player Viera on ITV got it right and Heskey was by far the best forward last night!

The save from Altidore? I couldn't believe the commentator claiming that was 'the redemption'. I thought he should have just pushed it away to the side, instead of pushing it upwards onto the post and potentially to another USA player. Didn't see how it was such an amazing save. And keeping the ball out is his job, and doing so on one occasion shouldn't make up for his diabolical error. Getting beaten at his near post by an Altidore effort would have been scandalous.

Should definitely go with Hart for the next game.
