lcfcadam Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 ... not missing the opportunity to start this thread! My short analysis is that Germany certainly didn't look World Cup-winningly decisive in the match I just watched; regardless of group form, this should be some game. EDIT: SHIT, can't believe I spelt the place name wrong! Can admin help?!
purpleronnie Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Look good to me. I think we would have beated Ghana as they are really poor up front, germany are a different class, I daren't say what I think will happen. Just shows how important winning the group was.

MC Prussian Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 0-0 in a surprisingly uneventful match with loads of misdirected passes, tons of missed chances on both sides and two disallowed goals. That's after 120 minutes... and then... (FANFARES) "Ladies and Gentlemen, we're going to penalties!" (Sponsored by Bilo)
Tilley Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 James Johnson Upson* Terry ColeMilner Lampard Barry ColeGerrard Rooney *Upson is more mobile than Carragher. I know Defoe score but I think possession will be the key so pack the midfield.
Dames Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 We generally tend to do crap against the bigger teams when it comes to Tournaments. I for one will not be looking forward to this game.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Actually couldn't be less optimistic. If/when it comes to penalties when we've had 50 shots on target, Germany have had one (bouncing off Cacau's arse into the top corner) to give us a 1-1 draw, I'll just fvck off out of the pub.
lcfcadam Posted 23 June 2010 Author Posted 23 June 2010 an additional "SHIT!" now that I've realised that davieG has started all these threads so far with the same nicely formatted title and everything... Sorry, I'm just getting too excited about Sunday already!
Joe. Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I cannot wait for this, although I am praying right now that I'm not at work on Sunday. And if I am my manager will hopefully take pity on me. But anyway, quite honestly I think we're going to beat these bastards. On penalties would be quite incredible. They've obviously got players with bags of quality, but at the end of the day so have we. Our boys will undoubtedly raise their games for this one - for some of them it'll be the biggest game they've ever had in an England shirt, and without doubt the biggest one for four years. I've got faith we can pull this one off...and how sweet it would be to do it.

If you exclude 1966, the only time we have ever beaten a former World Cup winner in the World Cup Finals was Argentina in 2002. Apparently England haven't lost in red, ever? We haven't lost in ALL red (as in red shorts as well). If you include today I think it's four wins and a draw.
purpleronnie Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I fail to see what "looks good" from that assessment though! Passed and moved great, usually a sure sign the england team will struggle.
Guest Bilo Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Passed and moved great, usually a sure sign the england team will struggle. Looked fragile at the back though. If not for Gyan's woeful first touch, they could well have been on the plane home. Also, Ghana should have had a penalty in the first half when Lahm handled on the line. They're far from invincible.
lcfcadam Posted 23 June 2010 Author Posted 23 June 2010 He said "look good" as in "Germany look good", not "looks good" as in "it looks good that Germany look a good team". Oh right, of course! Passed and moved great, usually a sure sign the england team will struggle. Certainly not disagreeing, they looked "well-drilled" (to coin an old cliche) and very confident in their ability to win the match (something England will seemingly always lack). All I was saying is that they definitely don't look perfect; there is certainly a serious game to be had to decide who makes the quarters (sorry if that sounds like stating the obvious)...

Lets face it, Sunday is going to be a rollercoaster ride whatever the result, it can't be anything else.

Agreed, germany certainly dont look 'as good ' as I've seen them in previous tournaments and theres always that chance that we will finally fullfill our potential. But boy will we have to raise our game. I'm still pissed off the USA have such a great draw. everytime I walk out my office I'm greated with USA USA USA, I may have to fire someone.

Lets face it, Sunday is going to be a rollercoaster ride whatever the result, it can't be anything else. BBC lied to me this morning! "The good news is they are unbeaten on all four occasions they have worn that kit before. In 1962 they beat Peru 4-0 in a friendly and drew 0-0 with Bulgaria at the World Cup finals in Chile. It also brought a 4-2 friendly win over Czechoslovakia in 1963 and a 3-1 friendly win against Belgium in 1970."

Was about to ask if you worked in Scotland or something but then noticed your 'Location' tab... I'm afraid I'll be hoping that "Houston has a problem" against Ghana in the next round!
