Guest Bilo Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 One thing I would say about the whole 'Swansea play defensive football' thing is that they are more than capable of carving teams open with their football, but their finishing is appalling. Watch these highlights from their last match against Doncaster and ask yourself if Fryatt/King/Gallagher would have missed some of the created chances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLIwKrnq0SM They probably do play cautious football at times but to put their lack of goals down wholly to Sousa's style is simplistic.
leftsideoverhere Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 It'd be easy to read too much into things at this stage, but although the headline on the Swansea signing players story mentions Sousa, it's not him but the Swans chairman who is quoted. It looks to me like an attempt to go public with the 'almost signed' player, so that when Paulo jumps ship tomorrow, the player doesn't follow.

It is highly unusual for the manager to be unquoted after being credited in the same article for buying a player I would imagine. It also makes the club seem more attractive to potential new managers when the clubs shows it's willing and able to add to the playing staff.
Narborough_fox Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 Well we were trying to sign 2 players while the NP rumor was going on and no-one thought Nigel would go because we were trying to sign players an he did, signing players doesn't mean the manager won't go.

Who says NP was trying to sign them? We have Milan Mandaric sticking his nose in.

fatboy Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 From the News of the World today 03/07/2010 PAULO SOUSA will be named as Leicester's new boss this week. The Foxes have agreed to hand Sousa a two-year deal and he will be confirmed as soon as a compensation package is sorted out with his current club Swansea. The Portuguese two-time Champions League winner was top of Milan Mandaric's wish-list for the post. Sousa, 39, has impressed at Championship outfit Swansea but failed to land a play-off spot after looking nailed on for a top-six place for most of the season. A failure to land his transfer targets due to a lack of cash caught up with the Swans in the final weeks of the campaign as his thin squad struggled for results. But once compensation is agreed he will be handed cash at the Walker Stadium to build on the work Nigel Pearson started before leaving for Hull. Sousa has plenty of football experience having played for Juventus, inter Milan and Benfica in a sparkling playing career.

They probably do play cautious football at times but to put their lack of goals down wholly to Sousa's style is simplistic. This. I think if Swansea had a good striker like Fryatt they would have made the play offs. We played them three times last season, I went to 2 of the games, and we out passed and didnt get much of the ball. I think if he does come we will be different to Swansea were last year, can see us scoring a lot, but not letting many in either. We might get a lot of one nils especially away from home, but I think we will get a few three nils as well, with the quality we have.
Salieri Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 The Swans fans seem very negative about Sousa's record in the transfer market. Any Swans fans reading this, what were his signings and how did they fare?
muzzyisalegend Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 This. I think if Swansea had a good striker like Fryatt they would have made the play offs. The more I think about it, the happier I am with it, just want it done now before we miss any potential decent signings just because we're managerless. Not seen much of any Sousa team, but he's got great credibility as a player, so I'm sure he tries to play the game the right way. I don't envisage a guy who was one of the most cultured midfield players ever to grace the game using kick and rush tactics! Get it done pronto Milan!!!
Thracian Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 This club will never regain its status until we get a manager who believes in attacking football and knows what achieving that requires throughout the team. Sadly English football is now represented by the dour, misguided foreigner we've got running the England team.
Sylvie85 Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 Not jumping through hoops if sousa takes over, but i think he would be the best of the names linked. Saw swansea play a few times last season and wasn't hugely impressed, but if he's at the helm will support him 100%.
Langley Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 Has anyone seen this yet? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3016958/Robert-Pires-could-return-to-England-with-Leicester.html "PIRES LINES UP LEICESTER DEAL"

fox24 Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 the pires story is old news birmingham city were also linked with him

Saw swansea play a few times last season and wasn't hugely impressed, but if he's at the helm will support him 100%. I have seen it suggested on more than one occasion that Sousa has a more continental approach, a head coach if you like and everything else is done behind the scenes by someone else, this would suggest that someone else is actually in charge of signing the players, it doesn't seem that these players are Sousas targets but more the targets of someone else.

So what are you trying to say? If he came here, Milan might want to be involved with the transfers? That would be a first for MM
Matt Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 So what are you trying to say? If he came here, Milan might want to be involved with the transfers? That would be a first for MM Milan's Dream
Jay Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 So what are you trying to say? If he came here, Milan might want to be involved with the transfers? That would be a first for MM it was a suggestion that if Sousa arrives he would be happy to concentrate on coaching the first team and not to bothered about having the final decision in transfers, so errr that's a yes then!
leftsideoverhere Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 but if sousa is going to be the new manager then why has milan said he is flying out to talk to someone about the current managers job, sousa is in this country so why is milan flying out???????????who is out of this country that could possibly be linked with the leicesters job??i think we r all in for a shock still when the manager is announced, plus has anyone heard anything more bout the new kits for this season coming?? Milan said he was flying "out of England" for a short trip. Seems an odd thing to say, rather than "out of Britain" unless he meant he was going somewhere in Britain that wasn't England. Several people have already suggested that the place he was flying to was Wales. But then, since Sousa didn't turn up for Swansea's training, maybe he was in Portugal. Who knows?
fox24 Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 oh ok i thought that milan said he was flying out of this country to talk to someone, well i just wish they would get the manager in place before pre season and get the bloody shirts sorted out aswell
Bernie's Love Child Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 From Stringers Twitter IanStringerBBC Paulo Sousa is not OFFICIALLY the Leicester City manager although from what I know, its about there and we could have confirmation next week Sounds promising...
bluebeau Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 What worries me somewhat is that the dreaded Ian Dowie, plonker Chris Coleman & Gareth Southgate are all out of the country at the moment, God help us!!!
chesterfox Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3036619/Foxes-to-go-Paulo-the-way.html i already heard that some bookmakers wernt taking bets on him becoming the new manger and i also heard that he was milan mandaric's vip guest when we played cardiff in the play off home leg, so with this saying he spent 'all day in talks' and that he has 'agreed', looks like we have our new man. whats your thoughts ? ]now you mention it I remember seeing Sousa there at the Walkers v Cardiff
