Looks like Sousa is the man

No problem.

Maybe he would have learnt from it but he was the same at QPR in terms of being negative and he had Buszaky/Routledge there - two of the most creative players in the league.

Kuqi was his signing as well, not sure if Beattie was so much his idea but he was still signed in his tenure. In fairness to Beattie he's looked very good when fit especially linking up with the midfield but he's just forever injured.

He likes having an old fashioned number 9 up front, he wants a lump who can head the ball and hold it up as his lone striker as he's said himself and that's why he signed Kuqi I think.

The only other problem with him is if he doesn't get on with a player, he won't work with him. Martinez signed Stephen Dobbie on a free but then of course left. He started the season up front on his own and showed a lot of promise even though he isn't a lone striker and would be excellent with a partner. Apparently Dobbie didn't follow his orders on the field against QPR though so he was barely picked after that (even picking players who were nowhere near his standard ahead of him). He was then of course loaned to Blackpool where he scored some goals and got a load of assists to help them up (along with DJ!).

Don't think he's got much time for players who don't work their nuts off which is a good thing in a way but it can be a bit of a shame if you then miss out/lose out on a player who has the ability to make a big impact.

As I said though lads, he is the right kind of guy to steady a ship and keep you organised in a bit of turmoil off the pitch. There won't be a lot of flair or attacking play but you would be damn well organised, hard to beat and you'd probably be aiming for between top 10 and playoffs again certainly.

Edit - Oh and by the way lads, agree with you when you say Pearson to Hull is ridiculous. Even if you haven't got much money, Hull haven't either and they haven't got as much potential as you.

Having been in a situation where Martinez left us and took all his staff, I do sympathise.

He sounds like Pearson from a lot of the stuff you said, except he doesn't have a guy like Steve Walsh to scout out the top players for him.

Yeah, I see some similarities in Sousa and Pearson. Though Pearson had the benefit of having a good scouting network in place. Out of all the managers we could get, Sousa is probably the best one. I can't think of other managers who would be able to replicate the good season we had last year. I think Sousa probably can.

We used to in Steve Walsh (not our former defender Steve Walsh but the other one). Unfortunately he left with Pearson and Shakespeare to Hull :(

Cheers for the assessment!

Maybe Don Mackay can come back... he was good at picking a player.

Well the squad won't be having too much of a culture shock when Sousa walks through the door. Whilst Swansea's lack of goals last season worries me and fills me with bad thoughts of drab 0-0's, we have much more quality up front than he had at his disposal last year.

I think a lot hinges on whether or not he can find the right replacement for Waghorn, and that really is key. We've got the goalkeeper and defence in place, and given Sousa's emphasis on the backline he should be reasonably free to focus his attentions elsewhere. I think we definitely need a new right back, at least another creative midfielder and another two strikers. Let's just hope he can get it right up top.

As I've said before, a new manager coming to this club does not have to do a whole lot to change what we've got here at the moment. I don't think Sousa will tinker with things too much either, it just wouldn't be worthwhile given what the team achieved last year.

I assume people have seen the latest Sun article which now states he's agreed to join?

apologies if I'm late on this I can't be arsed to traipse through the posts...

PAULO SOUSA has agreed to become the new boss of Leicester.

The Swansea manager will take over at the Championship club following a day of talks with Foxes chiefs.

Sousa was the favourite to succeed Nigel Pearson, who quit for Championship rivals Hull, and has beaten off competition from Micky Adams and Iain Dowie.

The former Juventus midfielder, 39, impressed City owner Milan Mandaric after guiding Swansea to the brink of the play-offs last season - missing out by just one point in a final-day draw with Doncaster.

He has also battled his way back from the disappointment of being axed by QPR after less than five months last year following a fall out with the club's owners.

Thats gotta hurt Swans fans. Leaving them for a club who didnt finish much higher than them last season.

We are a better proposition though. Pires here we come!

Many of us believe PS worked miracles last season after taking over from El Judas who tore the heart out of the 'cloob e looved' . The problem was we'd been used to 20+ goals a season forwards and 30 from midfield. He was definitely let down by forwards.

But he has the right approach to the game and establishing long term development.

While I would like him to stay I'm sure many will be happy for him to go - then they can moan about his replacement.

Hurt if he went? Not really, those of us who like his style see the witch hunt by sections of our fan base as a contributory factor. I he goes I hope is successful and our plastic fans might learn to appreciate quaity.

If Sousa likes to pass the ball around and advance 'slowly' upfield, he'll be booed out the club before you can say hoof it. Leicester fans, on the whole, despite their protestations seem more than happy with the direct style of play judging from the comments I hear at games with 'get the fooking ball forward' and that usually starts after 5 minutes, keeping possession seems secondary to so many.

Sure we need a balance but many are so impatient.

Ok then. Five minutes of continental style square balls across the back four (Wayne will love that) followed by a skilful sort of hoof upfield, maybe with a bit of spin on it.

Keep everyone happy.

Too right davie, I said after the Sheffield United home match that Neilson kept possession and was conservative, rather than launching it forward, much to the annoyance of those around me at the time, which eventually led to the opening goal. I would rather see us keep the ball and be patient.

I noticed in the two home matches with Swansea that their keeper likes to pass the goal-kicks to defenders. Would Sousa implement that with Weale, and we start better from the back?

Would be nice, in recent times we've had many goalkeepers doing that when they've first started but gradually resort more and more to the hoof.

Just thinking about the Hull 'fans' on here this week - does anyone here have the urge to go to the Swansea boards and take the piss out of them for (potentially) losing their manager.

No true football fan would do that - I'd feel crap for Swansea if we took their manager.

Wales online.

LEICESTER CITY are weighing up an official approach for Swansea City manager Paulo Sousa.

While Swans chairman Huw Jenkins yesterday insisted he hadn’t be contacted by the Foxes, it is understood that Sousa is still one of the leading candidates to replace Nigel Pearson at the Walkers Stadium. The Portuguese is still the favourite for the role with a number of bookmakers and sources in Leicester have indicated he is being considered for the post.

One of the main reasons Sousa is being tipped for the job is that he is understood to be good friends with Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric. The former Portsmouth supremo is said to have a great respect for the work Sousa has done with limited financial resources at Swansea and invited him as a special guest in the chairman’s box for Leicester’s play-off semi-final first leg with Swansea.

It was initially thought that a potential stumbling block in any move for Sousa would be the need to compensate the Swans. But, considering the size of the Portuguese’s wages and the fact Leicester received a reported £350,000 as part of the deal that took Pearson to Hull, that may not be as prohibitive as first thought.

Jenkins though, has so far remained consistent in his beliefs that Sousa will be in charge at the Liberty Stadium when the new season begins on August 7. The former Champions League winner is yet to make any comment on the speculation, but, unless things change dramatically, he is expected to return for the start of pre-season training tomorrow.

Murmurs of a strained relationship between manager and the board still persist. But, insisting he meets Sousa on a regular basis, Jenkins continues to deny any rift as the club prepares to try and build on last season’s seventh-placed finish.

“I have never had a letter, an email or a phone call from anybody at Leicester,” Jenkins said. “There hasn’t been any contact and I have got no idea whether they are interested in Paulo.

“I am not commenting on speculation. I have had a meeting with Paulo and he is concentrating on Swansea City.”

could have sworn it was cardiff. good appointment if true. :scarf:

I must sit around a different type of fan then, who like myself get frustrated with the aimless long balls that our defenders seem happy to play all too often (If you're are going to play long ball you need an effective plan and execution to go with it). The only grumbles came when passes were misplaced, not due to the fact we were trying to keep possession.

I got to respond and say I for one would welcome more possession and authority with the ball and getting away from any hoof and hope long-ball game.

Weale is a good keeper and his confidence and distribution both improved massively as last season wore on, he'll fit straight in with Sousa' way of playing and build from the back.

If possession and being bloody hard to break down and score against is Sousa's way then good enough, yes; its great to see goals flying in and beating teams 4-0 but the 1-0 wins get the same points at the end of the day.

For me I just don't want to see Dowie' ugly mug every week ... explaining how we 'should' have won that game!!!!! ... No, bring on the Sousa ...

Not really, my inferiority complex is massively underdeveloped as a fan of a non- tinpot club.

I think if he'd been a guest of MM in the directors' box for a game against Swansea there would have been a lot more press speculation, especially in the Swansea local press.

He didn't set the world alight, but he certainly done the job

Bruce was a car crash defender - and demonstrated a shockingly second rate attitude when deputising for Nazi Brown.

And why does no one remember Neilsen, Pearson's greatest signing?

1 1/2 seasons in the championship isnt that experianced and he wasnt overly sucessful!! I live with Swansea Season ticket holders and all they do is moan about Sousa's signings and his tactics. Everyone seems to have the impression he will be brilliant but he hasn't been as impressive at Swansea as what everyone seems to think!

it does not matter how long sousa has been a manager in the championship pearson only had 1/2 season with southampton before he came to us. so IF he does become lcfc s next manager (i don't think he will come) get behind him and the team

plus a couple of spells as WBA & newcastle caretaker manager, a spell as assistant manager at WBA when they pulled of the "great escape" in 2005, Manager of Carlisle when they survived on the final day with the jimmy glass goal.

Since first post about Sousa on wikipedia the page has been edited twice first removing any reference to him as Leicester manager and then putting it back on saying he will be confirmed as manager tomorrow. They do use the dates 01/06 and 02/06 so not 100% sure this is right but would be surprised if wikipedia is wrong as they are known to be a fact based web site.
