Fox92 Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Just seen it on OS. Paulo Sousa's blue and white army I'm so happy...
Fox in a Box Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 OHH SOUSA YOU SIR OHH SOUSA YOU SIR New away kit sir OHH SOUSA YOU SIR
swanseajack85 Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 swanseas players were boring, ours aren't Practically the same players that scored 76 goals the season before scored less than 50 last season. Sousa plays 4-5-1 and the 1 man up front is usually a carthorse... someone who will defend from the front. He has very poor man management (hardly any players like him), very poor media skills (if anything goes wrong he'll blame the ref, the board, even the fans - anyone but himself) and his record in the transfer market is appalling - £800k for Craig Beattie, bringing in Lopez and Kuqi - all abysmal signings. Despite his past, he has very little contacts in the game and can't spot any gems. All in all, your welcome to him!!! you'll probably have a good season on paper and make the playoffs, but thats because no bugger will be able to score against your 11 defenders! not having a pop, just warning you that he ain't as good as his record on paper may suggest! good luck!
Babylon Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Practically the same players that scored 76 goals the season before scored less than 50 last season. Except Jason Scotland... the man who scored 24 goals that season for you.
Alexikokopops Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Except Jason Scotland... the man who scored 24 goals that season for you. And Jordi Gomez, who scored 12. So really, that should have read: "Practically the same players (excluding two players who scored 36 goals between them) that scored 76 goals the season before scored less than 50 last season"
sw_fox Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 And Jordi Gomez, who scored 12. So really, that should have read: "Practically the same players (excluding two players who scored 36 goals between them) that scored 76 goals the season before scored less than 50 last season" So actually, considering their best strikers left, the rest of the team actually improved on their goal return by about roughly 10 goals
Jon the Hat Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 So actually, considering their best strikers left, the rest of the team actually improved on their goal return by about roughly 10 goals The man is a miracle worker!! Sounds like he pissed off a few people. Maybe they don't like to work too hard down there in Swansea. One suspects that a man who has played at his level doesn't tolerate slackers or people who lack his drive and commitment. Or he could be a mardy git.
mancunianfox Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Isn't there a statistic that shows that Swansea had the most attempts on goal last season? They couldn't have been that boring to watch. If Fryatt gets that amount of chances we won't be drawing 0-0 very often.
DeclanMC Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Despite all the Swansea idiots coming on here to diss their old manager, I am greatly looking forward to Paulo Sousa's reign. You will always get one or two idiots crossing the forum borders to slate transfers and I imagine there are plenty of 'foxez4eva's on Hull forums dissing pearson and his tactics. My hope for Sousa's tactics, where pearson in my eyes failed, is to give the team an attacking edge when it needed it. Think of the many games where pretty much the whole stadium was crying out for N'guessan to come on to give us a bit of attacking muscle, but oh no here comes kermorgant again. On the transfer side of things, the head honcho Steve Walsh has gone and with him probably any chance of unearthing another michael morrison (cynicism mode here). However, I will reserve any judgements apart from that one until we see some activity.
swanseajack85 Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 and who did sousa replace gomez and scotland with? thats right, craig beattie and shefki kuqi!!!!!!!! you probably think its sour grapes, but pop over to planetswans and you will soon realise that 99% of the fans are relieved to see the back of him! believe me, he will not give you an attacking edge - you saw us 3 times last season, did we honestly impress you at all?? and no, there is no statistic that says we had more shots than any other team last season, in fact there were many 0-0 games that we had less than 5 shots. and if you need any further confirmation just how negative his tactics are, just ask the qpr fans!
Malinki Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 and no, there is no statistic that says we had more shots than any other team last season, in fact there were many 0-0 games that we had less than 5 shots. Ah-hem...... http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=66690&view=findpost&p=1641289
clare Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 I think we ought to see how his management style comes across with our group of players once we actually play some competitive games, before we pass comment. Welcome to the crazy world of Leicester City F.C., Paulo!
dandannieldanok Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 believe me, he will not give you an attacking edge - you saw us 3 times last season, did we honestly impress you at all?? Yes, completely dominated possession each of the three times, I enjoyed Swansea's brand of football.
Decent Jack Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 I'm not here to wind anyone up or unduly criticise Sousa, I quite like your club and I think you will make the playoffs again at least. However, don't you find it a poor reflection on Sousa's character that apparently he did not say goodbye to the players and also has clearly not defended his departure from Swansea by giving a reason for why he left? I hope to God we appoint a British manager, at the risk of generalising: our last two foreign managers have not exactly possessed integrity. You must view his appointment as only a temporary solution.

Nationality has got FA to do with it - put it down to the culture of modern football life.
maddog Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 A whole new buzz for the new season now with this appointment. If Pearson was still here we would have known exactly what to expect and a lot of the starters for that first match against Palace. And it would have been a bit boring possibly. Now, Sousa may not like or like certain players, and the team, formation, tactics, everything could change. A Portuguese manager who has won back to back Champions League with Juventus and Dortmund, at LCFC. It could be brilliant. Or a total flop, lets see.
Fatal Swan Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 Another Swansea fan here (in peace of course), looking to offer Foxes fans a balanced view of Sousa. When he arrived last summer the QPR fans were giving us fairly mixed messages about him and I guess the same would go for most of us after a year. The positives we'll take away this year are that we were not expecting much and Martinez's departure last summer was expected to be turbulent for our club. Given the situation Sousa inherited, we were relieved not to be fighting for relegation this year. He quickly sorted us out from the back, made us well organised and hard to break down. No doubt there'll be seasons when we miss this. No problem with that - after a dodgy first few games it soon was clear we had a steady ship and weren't going down. No complaints at all with 7th place either - any issues we have with Sousa's reign are not due to unrealistic expectations. Few Swans fans expect us to be pushing for promotion and we don't have a 'big club' mentality where we feel we have a right to success. We've been right to the very brink in recent years and know we're punching at or above our weight. I think most Swans fans feel frustration at an opportunity wasted. I don't mean by missing out on the play offs - that was really no surprise with our form in the last couple of months. Just disappointed by the lack of ambition and creativity from Sousa. Although for outsiders it's easy to point to the loss of Scotland and Gomez, we still had bags of quality, especially in midfield, to really excite and cause problems for most sides in our division (Pratley, Britton, Dyer, Allen, Bodde who's been injured, admittedly). Yet while we've got no problems with the commitment and application of the players, the style Sousa adopted and rigidly stuck to clearly wasn't able to make the most of them. A season of all possession and zero penetration, with the frustration that Sousa appeared to see no problem with that. Team selections were generally unfathomable and changed every match, resulting in an unsettled side. Not one player improved for us over last season. And Sousa's buys, who seem mostly to be decent enough (except Lopez - you're welcome to him), failed to really show the form they've been capable of elsewhere. Though a year is a short time to make an impact on a side, Sousa seemed to have run out of ideas and enthusiasm for the job and I think most people at the club consider that he reached the end of the line in what he could offer - not many are especially sad to see him go as we were pessimistic rather than optimistic about our chances next year and are happy to have the chance to change things before they sour. Towards the end Sousa also lost the fans with his off the pitch behaviour - he clearly had thrown his toys out of the pram with the chairman (a local man, legend in the making) and showed a real lack of respect in how he handled the departures of Britton and Trundle, two of the players who have shown most commitment to the club in the last 10 years. There are certainly positives from his year though and I'm sure he's learned a lot, but Sousa has had little real impact for us and will be quickly forgotten. Both our fans and your fans will be taking the positives from the chance to change things around with a new manager, I'm sure. I hope it works - look forward to seeing you in the autumn.
samjohnson Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 Let's hope he can still do ... Sign him up, Sign him up, Sign him... Oh wait >.>
