Corky Posted 23 November 2010 Posted 23 November 2010 Arsenal should still qualify, playing Partizan at home in their last game.
sdb Posted 23 November 2010 Posted 23 November 2010 awful ref in their game. bets went a bit pear shaped.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 23 November 2010 Posted 23 November 2010 I think we will be reading alot more about the 2 Real Madrid players delibratly getting a 2nd yellow for time wasting.
StanSP Posted 23 November 2010 Posted 23 November 2010 Haha Mourinho's a genius for that. It'll be good to see if they do a topic on that on Special1 TV.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/xabi-alonso-red-card-ajax-7648950/ Not deliberate
Edmund Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 Scottish referee Thomson caught up in Real Madrid red card farce Real's Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos raise suspicions after forcing Craig Thomson to send them off in their Champions League match against Ajax. In the week Scottish referees went on strike because of the effect criticism was having on their lives outside of football, Craig Thomson headed for Amsterdam on Champions League duty no doubt hopeful he would have a controversy free night when he took charge of Ajax's home game with Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho's team racked up a 4-0 scoreline thanks to goals from Karim Benzema, Alvaro Arbeloa and two from Cristiano Ronaldo, on what appeared to be a routine Tuesday evening. However, the Spanish side raised suspicions when, late on in the game, Thomson was compelled to show second yellow cards to Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos for blatant time wasting. Their actions were so obvious that neither player took their respective free and goal kicks, running up to the ball, stopping and then jogging backwards on numerous occasions until the referee simply had to intervene. Both players had already been booked earlier in the game, taking their card count for the competition to date to two. Under Champions League rules, Ramos and Alonso would have carried those yellow cards forward into the final group game with Auxerre. One more caution for either player in the game with the French side would automatically have ruled them out of the first leg of the second round. Or, if neither had played or came through without being booked, their disciplinary records would still sit at two yellow cards. Therefore, if either received one more yellow at any further stage in the competition, they would be forced to miss the subsequent match. But the sinister twist comes in the fact that, in being sent off, that possibility ends. Both are automatically forced to sit out the Auxerre fixture, which is a dead rubber match on account of their team's guaranteed progression to the last 16. Now, both Ramos and Alonso will be free of the threat of an immediate ban when the second round starts in February. If UEFA, or indeed Thomson is his match report, feels the actions of the two players were pre-determined, the governing body has the power to extend their suspensions beyond one match. With a large percentage of Scotland's Category One officials claimed this week to have failed a tough test on the Laws of the Game set by the Scottish Football Association, Thomson at least followed the rules to the letter and thrust the responsibility onto bosses at the home of European football. Law 12 of the game's rules relating to fouls and misconduct stipulate that “delaying the restart of play” is a yellow card offence, leaving the Scottish official with little choice but to show the players subsequent red cards.
ScouseFox Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 Good start for Spurs, 1-0 against Bremen. Bale being taken down at every opportunity.
MikeyT Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 Man United should have had a penalty inside the first 4 minutes after Berbatov was brought down by the Rangers defender.
Finnegan Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 It's a shame Yanited and Rangers can't both lose. Can we not just nuke Ibrox and do the world a favour?
Fox You Forest Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 I can't get into this Spurs game, every time Wagner gets a mention I lose concentration.
Corky Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 Rangers should just go for it now, they're in the Uefa Cup whatever and a win gives them some hope of progressing in this.
Narborough_fox Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 Weiss looks very good, really hope Rangers can knick this.
Mee Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 And that air shot sums Rooney's season up to now .
Bugg Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 Rooney's performance is laughable atm, so many mis-timed shots etc. Edit - Oh look, he's scored now
purpleronnie Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Barcelona/real madrid look unbeatable at the moment.
StanSP Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso and Mourinho have all been charged with unsporting behaviour after the fiasco on Tuesday. Dudek and Casillas are also being investigated.
h1210 Posted 30 November 2010 Posted 30 November 2010 Surprise, surprise, UEFA bottle it. Really could have been the chance to make an example of this sort of thing BBC SPORT Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has been fined by Uefa and banned for two Champions League matches, the second of which is suspended for three years.Along with Real players Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, Mourinho was found guilty of improper conduct relating to the pair's recent dismissals against Ajax. Alonso and Ramos were also fined by European football's governing body. Real had expressed "surprise" that Uefa investigated claims Alonso and Ramos deliberately incurred the red cards. Mourinho - who had denied the allegations - was fined £33,500 for appearing to instruct Alonso and Ramos to attempt to receive strategic second yellow cards in last week's 4-0 win at Ajax. They were both sent from the field for time-wasting, meaning they would be banned from group G winners Real's next match against Auxerre - which is effectively meaningless - but then be free to start the Champions League last 16 knockout round without suspension. Alonso and Ramos were fined £16,700 for their part in the incident, while goalkeeper Iker Casillas and his reserve Jerzy Dudek were also hit financially after being captured on television apparently passing messages to them from the dugout. Portuguese coach Mourinho will only be suspended for the second match if he is again found guilty of improper conduct in the next three years. An appeal may be lodged against the full ruling within three days. When Mourinho coached Chelsea, Uefa banned him from the touchline for two matches in 2005 after he accused Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard of visiting Swedish referee Anders Frisk at half time.
StanSP Posted 7 December 2010 Posted 7 December 2010 Tottenham just scored a fluky goal. Bobbled in front of the keeper and in to the back of the net! Twente's goalie is a CL debutant at 40 as well!
StanSP Posted 7 December 2010 Posted 7 December 2010 Twente have a penalty. Land\zaat scored it, but referee asked for it to be retaken for encroaching. Don't understand that really because both sets of players were encroaching. Anyway, he scored the second time, Gomes got a touch to it but not enough. 1-1.

StanSP Posted 7 December 2010 Posted 7 December 2010 Shocking goal music!! What was it? I heard that the PA guy put it on a bit prematurely after the first penalty, but didn't hear it second time!
StanSP Posted 7 December 2010 Posted 7 December 2010 No record for United, Valencia 1-0 up at OT. What was the record? OptaJoe says they just conceded their first goal in CL football in 498 minutes.
