Kent Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Now that Paulo is out of the door what do you think will happen to his signings? Moreno and Vitor are the standout ones because they're Portuguese and were obviously heavily linked to Sousa. I suppose you could class Lamey (and possibly even Abe?) in the same category too. I can't really see Moreno and Vitor hanging around for too long, especially if they struggle to make the starting 11. As for the others, who knows. Thoughts?
Jackirius Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Abe will stay probably but not that bothered about the other 3. We will need to bring in a quality CB sooner or later so i doubt any of them will get into the team apart from abe.
Onions Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Not trying to create a rumour, but I wouldn't be shocked if we were linked to Sol Campbell. He went to Notts County because of Sven, and he isn't playing at Newcastle so, i really wouldn't be shocked to hear about a loan deal
Wymsey Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 During January we need to change most of the squad, bring in new fresh quality players that have a desire to play for the club. But now somehow our new manager will have to motivate the players who don't really want to play (Transfer request ones like Wellens and Gallagher - apparently) and ensure they are playing their best. I am seriously worried about the team. It is not good enough.
hackneyfox Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 It isn't and both Pearson & Sousa knew that. Moreno & Vitor have not yet been given a run in their chosen positions. Sven has worked with foreign players most of his career, no reason why he can't make them happy & successful here. I don't see N'Guessan & Morrisson having much of a future though. And hopefully the same will apply with the goalies.
conradno1 Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 sven managed benfica im sure he knows their language , id keep abe and vitor because iv not seen him yet get rid of the other two
cc_star Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 I'm sure Sven won't have a problem working with anyone, he is an international manager after all, whether they're good enough or not is another question. I don't think Abe was anything to do with Sousa though, that sounded more like a signing by the board whoever that may be.

I am seriously worried about the team. It is not good enough. I wouldn't say that as look where we finished last season (5th and a penalty kick away from meeting Blackpool in the play off final!), this with the same team we have now virtually! Wellens and Gallagher were great last season, I just think they just need a pick me up now and like most the team had been since playing under Sousa, had the temporary look of being dragged through the hedge backwards all season to date! Gallagher scored a hat-trick against tomorrow's opponents Scunny last season, lest we forget! Unless the whole team just clicked luckily last season, I don't see how we're suddenly not good enough in what is a weaker Championship if anything this season with no Newcastle or WBA!

Dont be surprised if Gallacher and Wellens suddenly regain their form, they were clearly not trying under Paulo and were the main instigators of unrest in the dressing room. I watched them carefully and could have forgiven them one or two 'bad games' but I noticed niether of them were even attempting there usual tricks or skills that could open up defences. If Wellens plays today I will betcwe see the return of his reverse flicks which seemed to disappear the last few times he played along with other of his skills. If it is the case personally I think that kind of behaviour is so wrong. I do hope I M nit right and I have misjudged things.

No Abe was all the scouts doing, nothing to do with PS

Cropwellfox Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 I think that Moreno, Vitor and Abe will still all play important parts this season, Moussa will probably end up going out on loan similar to Adams last season. Would be surprised if we see much more of Ikeme or Lamey though.
ian_marshall Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Interesting.....I'd be happy with that The only reason he's not playing at Newcastle is because they gave him extended leave to get married and he returned badly out of shape. He's had to work hard on regaining his physical fitness and will no doubt be working to sharpen himself up and gain match fitness. Unfortunately for both Newcastle and himself the the Premier League isn't the type of place for him to work on these aspects of his game in a live capacity as he'd be ripped to shreds, and Newcastle would concede a bag full. From my understanding he's only a couple of games away from being one of their established centre backs, so I can't see him coming to us at this moment in time, but you never know I suppose.
marbelladave Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 One thing you can definitely say about Svennis is that he is a suberb diplomatic bullshitter. He will make players feel they are the most important players at the club whilst actually dropping them to the bench, and given his pedigree and achievenents it is hard to see him taking any shit from the awkward squad, His immediate aim has to be to unite the squad, and with the break he has a couple of weeks to do it, his experience will be vital in integrating Vitor, Moreno, Abe (in particular) into the team as unlike some forumers I think all three have shown promise and could be pivotal players for us. As something of a traditionist who would normally like to see the club with grow under a young manager in the 'building for the future' manner that has become increasingly rare in modern football, I find myself increasingly and quite unacountably exited by the prospect of the 'Svennis experience'. Shouldn't be dull.....
Far Post Gerry Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Remember when Sven went to Man City and bought virtually a whole new team of pretty unknown players, including Corluka, Elano, Giovanni, Martin Petrov etc? Most of them turned out to be pretty good - the man certainly has contacts and a good scouting network. Not expecting wholesale changes this season, but next summer will be interesting.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 I don't think Abe was anything to do with Sousa though, that sounded more like a signing by the board whoever that may be. Correct. Abe was nothing to do with Sousa, and I know for a fact his representatives are glad to see the back of Sousa for not giving him a proper run in the side
Cheese Me Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 I think Vitor might be OK if he really is as heavily rated by Benfica as we've heard. Abe definitely OK as he appears to have class and pedigree. Not so sure about the future of Moreno and Lamey, they'll presumably need to impress in training if they're going to get a run, but at least it's not the amount of deadwood we had after Allen left.
Guest Bilo Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 As already stated, Sven has managed in Portugal before so I'm fairly sure he'll be proficient enough in Portuguese to be able to work with Vitor and Moreno if he so chooses. Moreno is probably the more likely casualty of the two based on form though. I very much doubt Abe was a Sousa signing anyway so his position should be unaffected. Lamey is likely to wind up on the sidelines and with Weale fit again, Ikeme will surely go back after his loan expires. So all in all, I suspect a mix of fates awaits Sousa's signings.
davieG Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 As none of the team are Sven players they're all in the same boat.
chesterfox Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 I believe he can say ''on yer bike'' in several languages
Kent Posted 2 October 2010 Author Posted 2 October 2010 As none of the team are Sven players they're all in the same boat. I understand and agree with that. What I meant was what are Moreno and Vitor likely to think now that they've been drafted in from where ever under Sousa and now he's suddenly gone and they're left here. Wasn't so much on about Sven's lineup choices but more their personal feelings. Then again, if he does pick them I suppose they might want to stay around anyway.

It happens all the time players are used to it, Kennedy recruited by Pearson finds he's under Sousa before he even kicks a ball now he's under Sven. They'll take it in their stride and even if they don't stick it under Sven most of them could get a comparable job except perhaps Oakley and Howard but along Tunchev and Berner are all out of contract after this season anyway.
Koke Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Whatever happens, I hope I never see Ikeme between our sticks ever again. Shocking keeper.
Babylon Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 Whatever happens, I hope I never see Ikeme between our sticks ever again. Shocking keeper. With Powell and Stowell in charge I think we can be sure it's going to a NP team we see out there today.
turkish14 Posted 2 October 2010 Posted 2 October 2010 I think the biggest issue is possibly with vitor, cannot remember who the benfica manager is but he is good mates with sousa and if he thinks sousa has been treated unfairly then surely he will recall vitor back leaving us with no defensive cover, a bit cynical but........ not forgetting crnic either, fook knows where he is?
