okie fox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Good skilful player, especially at championship level. He has scored 101 games in 190 league matches outside the premier league. In the premier league he has got 31 goals in 175 matches, but I guess this includes quite a lot of appearances as a substitute. City need another big striker, Howard is slow and doesn't score often nowadays.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Because maybe you are being fickle in thinking we can sign better for the same value as in £££ We have plenty of youth in the team, right through the spine with Hobbs, King and Waghorn. I don't know why you are so against the bloke, he banged them in more times in this division than Sven's shagged women so it's a win win, considering his experence that he's been there and done it!! Adam Le Fondre hasn't, as you mentioned him, he would cost more with him scoring regularly in LEAGUE 1 The players you mentioned haven't. Doesn't hurt to have a bit of experience in the team and he would be perfect, I think 90% of the people in here want him aswell and the majority aren't usually bonkers so maybe you are. Me thinking we can do better for the same value is a personal opinion, I don't see how personal opinions of this nature can be fickle. You're basically saying that if you don't fall into the majority opinion, you're being fickle. In my opinion we'd do better with the players I mentioned, if you think Roberts would be better then fine. I'm not going to argue with an opinion different to mine, what I will argue with is people calling me fickle for no reason whatsoever. Oh and the majority wanted Mandaric here, now the majority wanted him out. Playing sheep isn't always the best option.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Here here!!! Another member of the fickle foxes brigade. Because maybe you are being fickle in thinking we can sign better for the same value as in £££ "Fickle" refers to the way fans change their opinion from overly optimistic to depressingly pessimistic based on the smallest change in the clubs fortunes. I'm not sure how it comes into this. It seems to have evolved into a general insult for someone who disagrees slightly from the norm.
escos Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 So does anybody actually know if this is going to happen?
sdb Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 I can tell you that the Jason Roberts signing is very likely to happen, although the mirror is way off with thte cost of the deal. Rovers are unlikely to allow him to go for less than 1.5 - 2m that would be a rip off, quite frankly. the guy has a stormer about once a season. when's the last time he even scored? i'd take him, sure, but anything over 1mill would be v, v silly imo
Corky Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 I'm a fan of Jason Roberts, no complaints if he was to sign.
Guest shearfox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 He will be a very good signing at this level, I have no complaints.
Webbo Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Never really rated him tbh. More likely to be a replacement for Howard than Fryatt or Waghorn I'd have though.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Not because I doubt you but why do you think that the signing is likely to happen ? It's from an insider at the club. Can't say anymore, but that is the info I have.
Solihullfox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 It's from an insider at the club. Can't say anymore, but that is the info I have. Good good
Guest nathan. Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 It's from an insider at the club. Can't say anymore, but that is the info I have. Thanks
Karljohn Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Capable of getting 20-25 goals at this level if he stays fit and a steal at 500k, we need something different up front and he would provide it.
Jackirius Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 He would do a job for us, not sure how many years he has got left though.
ollie_patterson Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 500K is, in my opinion, the most we should spend on him.... is he 32?...does he have THAT many years left him in in the premiership? at this level, he would be unbelievable and i think a loan till january would be good, if he performs well, maybe extend the loan till the end of the season?
StanSP Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Just had a text from an insider at the club telling me that Jason Roberts was with Sven today at the training ground this morning but he didn't look that impressed. Should know more tomorrow after he meets with the Thai owners as well as Sven again tomorrow.

If he wasn't impressed that is quite surprising, we have possibly better facilities than some prem clubs... add in the fact we have Sven has manager it would be strange.
sdb Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 if he thinks he's bigger than the club he can sod off

StanSP Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Did you mean Sven wasn't impressed with Roberts or Roberts wasn't impressed with us Roberts not impressed with us.
Guest nathan. Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Roberts not impressed with us. He can balls then oh and thanks for the info
Tuna Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 According to wikipedia he is out of contract in June so I doubt Rovers would expect more than a nominal fee for a player who is 33 in a couple of months. He also hasn't played yet this season, injured?
Solihullfox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Probably just the "I'm a Premiership Johnny Big Bollocks player" attitude that so many of them seem to adopt. Either that or he'd just been told he would have to fight for a start as he is currently behind big Steve Howard
The Doctor Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 no thanks. struck up a brilliant partnership with nathan ellington a couple of years back at this level with wigan but thats as good as it got for him. If we are looking for a player like him i'd rather we looked for someone slightly younger who still has a future and could still make it in the prem rather than signing roberts to get promotion then replacing him, waste of time and money signing him imo.
Salieri Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 A decent short term acquisition i reckon, we need an alternative to Howard. Would prefer us to be signing players more for the long term, but i guess getting out of this division is priority and Roberts could be effective once more at this level. Would hope for a loan rather than a perm.
