Guest ttfn Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Hes not shit, but hes a good Championship striker at best. Yes, you're right. The zero goals he has at Championship level certainly prove your point.
Fox You Forest Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Yes, you're right. The zero goals he has at Championship level certainly prove your point. What? and you honestly don't think we need more options up top? Fair enough if you don't rate Roberts, I'm not overly excited by him but to say we don't need any strikers I find baffling.
Adster Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 What? and you honestly don't think we need more options up top? I was just about to write this.
Philbert Fox Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 He's past it! I hope Eriksson comes to his senses and doesn't sign him, we need young, hungry, quality players, not has beens. We have the funds to attract quality players now.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 After the signings of Davies and Naughton and their respective promising performances yesterday, this signing would be a come down no matter how badly we need a striker. Sven has proved he can get better quality in.
Wymsey Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Is he the striker that got fined by their manager for being overweight?.......................................
bettso Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Is he the striker that got fined by their manager for being overweight?....................................... No that was Benni Macarthy.

Or if you look at it from the other direction (i.e. positively) you could trust Sven considering he made the Davies/Naughton signings happen, and hope that Roberts turns out to be a stroke of ingenuity and scores plenty of goals for us.
Philbert Fox Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I've just been looking at the stats on soccerway.com in the Swedish Allsvenskan - the top tier of Swedish football. Theres two Swedish strikers who have caught my eye and are scoring goals for fun, Denni Avdic (aged 22) of Elfsborg and Alexander Gerndt (aged 24) of Helsingborg. I'd say the top Swedish league is about the same standard as our Championship, their both are young, quality, in form, wouldn't cost much in transfer fees and wages, would adapt well with fellow compatriot Sven being the boss, so if Sven is after a striker I think he should maybe look closer to home ...

Agreed, its not all about players from english leagues, there is quality elsewhere. Shame sousa never found quality over seas, i think eriksson, being the high caliber manager he is, can attract foriegn gems to the walkers. In Sven we trust
Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Yes, you're right. The zero goals he has at Championship level certainly prove your point. He is too good for league 1, but not good enough for the Premiership. Abit like Fryatt.

Fair enough if you don't rate Roberts, I'm not overly excited by him but to say we don't need any strikers I find baffling. We have 4 strikers - I genuinely don't see what the problem is. Waghorn and Fryatt are both capable of bagging 15, Howard will chip in occasionally and Gallagher, King and Dyer all score fairly frequently from midfield. If there's an injury, fine then bring somebody else in on loan, but right there we have a good 60-odd goals in this league. Any that the others get is a bonus, and that is assuming that none of the above play above themselves or that we don't buy a winger who can give better service to Fryatt/Waghorn. Do people think most sides are knocking about with 5 or 6 quality strikers? We're Leicester City, not Manchester United. The only front lines in the Championship with greater quality amongst their four best forwards would be Cardiff (Bothroyd, Bellamy, Chopra and Keogh) and QPR (Hulse, Mackie, Helguson and whoever else they have). Obviously if we went out and signed somebody mint it would be different.

Waggy is still learning his trade, Fryatt is currently suspended and Howard is never going to be scoring above 10 goals a season. So we need at least another striker and if i am totally honest we need to get rid of Howard and bring in a replacement in Jan. It makes me laugh when people say Jason Roberts isn't an improvement on what we got. He is still employed by a prem club so he must still have sufficient ability to warrant that contract. I think Naughton and Davies shown on sat that our squad isn't as good as we thought is was.

Sven will have Fryatt and Howard bounced out the door in January and hopefully our doors will never be darkened again by such lower league rubbish.

If you take Fryatt's record in this league since the start of last season and this then it's far better than 1 in 5 games, buddy. In 26 starts last season he scored 11 times, which is a goal every 2.3 games. This season he has started 3 league games and scored twice. if you add the sub appearances to the mix for both seasons and it's still a less than a goal every 3 games, which is more than adequate. Sven will get Fryatt scoring frequently no worries about that.
HEGGSY Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 due to me being a new member i cant start a new thread, so apologise for this being off topic i found this link this morning about sven being interested in young arsenal star craig eastmond and a player called david elm one was posted yesterday and another was posted at 9.30 today think theres any substance? http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2010/10/17/sven-goran-eriksson-tests-market-with-bids-for-craig-eastmond-and-david-elm-102039-22639021/ http://www.fansfc.com/story/25766.html

Your comment about his goal scoring record is ridiculous, considering he has been our top scorer for the last two seasons. Yes he has some limitations but there aren't any players in our league who don't...thats why they are playing in the second tier. Along with Andy King and perhaps Lloyd Dyer he is one of the only players in our squad that an opposition side would really be worried about playing. I can do stats too (and accurately). 51 Appearances 32 Goals (albeit in the third tier) 35 Appearances 13 Goals (top scorer) 8 Appearances 4 Goals His goal scoring ratio in all competitions for the last two years is 1 goal per 1.91 appearances. Perfectly adequate. Better than Waghorn (1 goal per 3.91 appearances last season, 1 per 3 appearances this season) and miles better than Howard.

But because he finished 3rd in the goalscoring stakes in League One some on here think he is somehow good. Accept it, he has an appalling record at this level.

In the last season and a bit at this level it's not. It's 1 every 2.5 games. Prove to me it's 1 every 5 since we got promoted.

No, the fact that you're about as insightful as a ten year old doesn't really make everyone else ridiculous. I'm not a huge Fryatt fan but if you can't see the difference between Fryatt before we went down and Fryatt now then you're a really worrying kind of special. He's a young footballer and young footballers develop, they improve, they gain skills, insight and confidence and Fryatt's done well to gain in all of these areas. He's also a much better athlete now than when he arrived, he looked sharper last year, fitter, quicker. He doesn't strike me as someone who's going to be a thirty a year finisher at this level but he's significantly better than "appalling", isn't he? Jesus.

Jesus. He would probably have made it to at least twenty last season if not for being assaulted by the Doncaster player which would have put him in amongst the top scorers in the division. Thirty is probably a step too far though.
