lcfcsnow Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Howard's been doing alright this season so far Yes that one goal in a game we were 4-0 down in, he's had it as a Championship striker and now is the time we move on, Fryatt and Waghorn have scored more in less than half the minutes he's had. His only use now is impact sub, if that. I doubt a manager of Sven's calibre is going to continue starting with the likes of Howard and Oakley anymore.
teblin Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 No thanks, hope it's a bullshit story. We've got the money to go and get strikers a lot younger and better than someone who hasn't scored goals consistently for years and years now. We can do better. Has a 1 in 2.3 record at this level. Which is pretty decent.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Has a 1 in 2.3 record at this level. Which is pretty decent. Yea he does, in the early to mid noughties. Time's moved on, he's 32 now and has barely any football and subsequent goals under his belt. Way way past his best.

Way way past his best. Whenever he plays for Blackburn he makes an impact. There is no doubt he is not the future but for the present he would be a very good signing.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Whenever he plays for Blackburn he makes an impact. There is no doubt he is not the future but for the present he would be a very good signing. Well he isn't making much impact this season, not good enough to even make the matchday squads.
StanSP Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Well he isn't making much impact this season, not good enough to even make the matchday squads. In the Premier League. Championship is a whole different kettle of fish. Kyle Naughton was making the Spurs squad. Does that mean he isn't good enough?
dandannieldanok Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 In the Premier League. Championship is a whole different kettle of fish. Kyle Naughton was making the Spurs squad. Does that mean he isn't good enough? Yes but being on the wrong side of 30 with little confidence and goals behind you is a completely different kettle of fish to being in your prime and banging them which he was a long long time ago which people keep referring to. The guy has a poor injury record too. We don't know whether Naughton is good enough yet, but at least he's up and coming and has scope for improvement.
Tommy G Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Well he isn't making much impact this season, not good enough to even make the matchday squads. You talk some balls don't you sometimes
MrSpaM Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 I doubt a manager of Sven's calibre is going to continue starting with the likes of Howard and Oakley anymore. Oakleys still wearing the captains armband, and we've looked shit every time Howards not played this season. I'd be very surprised if either of these are left out of the squad for the rest of the season.
ousefox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Would be a very decent signing on loan but personally i think £500k is quite a lot for a 32 year old who is only a couple of years younger than Howard and would not get into our team if we were to get promoted. Anybody know how different he is to Howard?
dandannieldanok Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 You talk some balls don't you sometimes Just because he made the 25 man squad, it doesn't mean he's been making matchday squads, look through Blackburn's match reports if you don't believe me. I don't know whether he's been injured or just simply overlooked, but whatever it is it's not a promising sign at all. We'd be signing a player that hasn't played any competitive football this season, fact.
Jackirius Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 We would also have Beckham, Owen and Roque Santa Cruz if we listened to the mirror. But i hope its true

I think with prem league squads decided now until january, people will be reluctant to reduce their 25 man squad and let players leave on loan as they won't be able to replace them thus potentially leaving them short of cover for injuries and suspensions. Right now , our only hope is to get players who are not in 25 man squads. Like Jason Roberts. January might be different!
cc_star Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Don't Mirror Football create their articles by having someone scouring forums like this. I'm pretty sure if a few of us on here said xyz was signing on loan, then a day later it would appear on mirrorfootball they are the Ian Stringer of the web world

We wont pick up any prem player who has played prem ''competitive'' football this season as you put - because he will be needed by the club. Think your expectations are somewhat inflated triple D

Think your expectations are somewhat inflated triple D I wouldn't bother with any washed up prem player just for the sake of signing someone on loan, we're not as desperate as people seem to believe. This squad got us to 5th last season, we can comfortably manage with what we've got until January. We need to be looking at younger players in the football league. Striker wise I'd go for any of these: Danny Graham, Michael Chopra, Craig Mackail-Smith, Jordan Rhodes, Sam Baldock, Charlie Austin, Adam Le Fondre. All young hungry players with goals under their belt in recent times.
Edmund Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Quick and powerful player in his prime. Wasn't to bad last season if I remember correctly. I'm just glad that this new management team are looking at players closer to home as (a) they know these leagues and (b) don't need a translator.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 I can tell you that the Jason Roberts signing is very likely to happen, although the mirror is way off with thte cost of the deal. Rovers are unlikely to allow him to go for less than 1.5 - 2m

Both Waghorn and Fryatt are easily as good as all of them and are similar types of players so i don't really know how they would improve our side that much. None of them are likely to be available anytime soon either. We need a replacement for Steve Howard if we are going to improve and I don't see any of those players filling that role. Not sure if Jason Roberts is the answer but then there is hardly a surplus of big, mobile centre forwards who score goals knocking about.

Think your expectations are somewhat inflated triple D Here here!!! Another member of the fickle foxes brigade. He scored 38 goals in a season....twice! For 500k I wouldn't even call it a risk. If he gets match fit he will bang them in the champ, reason he's not featured at Blackburn is cus he doesn't cut the mustard at prem level, like the majority of prolific Championship tallismen!! Bring him in and get behind him!! Come on Leicester
dandannieldanok Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Here here!!! Another member of the fickle foxes brigade. How is personally not wanting the club to sign Jason Roberts being fickle? Explain yourself.
phillthefox Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 personally would love this guy at city, he has proven ability of scoring, and lets be honest we not scoring left right and centre at present 500k for a proven top level scorer bargain. far better than hesky
Tommy G Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 How is personally not wanting the club to sign Jason Roberts being fickle? Explain yourself. Because maybe you are being fickle in thinking we can sign better for the same value as in £££ We have plenty of youth in the team, right through the spine with Hobbs, King and Waghorn. I don't know why you are so against the bloke, he banged them in more times in this division than Sven's shagged women so it's a win win, considering his experence that he's been there and done it!! Adam Le Fondre hasn't, as you mentioned him, he would cost more with him scoring regularly in LEAGUE 1 The players you mentioned haven't. Doesn't hurt to have a bit of experience in the team and he would be perfect, I think 90% of the people in here want him aswell and the majority aren't usually bonkers so maybe you are.
