Davies extends loan

A club which can afford to pay John Carew £160K p/w and pick up his tax bills and ancillaries isn't going to quibble over a pay-rise for Davies, they aren't Portsmouth. I think it only comes into play with regards making him a more costly player to shift when they have no intention of re-integrating him back into the squad. If he'd proved his worth to them he'd have had games, but he didn't so he's on his way, is the general feeling.

True and I'm guessing Villa are looking to recoup the majority of what they paid for him (£10,000,000 I think) and a pay rise would only hinder that.

Is Carew really on 160k a week?

MON did a decent job there but he did spend astronomical amounts.

Yep, no tax, no bills and with a nice little sponsorship from Lamborghini too. He's not the only one on massive amounts either, the contracts which were signed-off on over the MON time were quite amazing...hence the reluctance to continue the spending without trophies leading to his sulky departure.

3million? That would be the bargain of the century! Like people have said Prem teams will blatently be after him but we may still stand a chance for two reasons. Firstly Villa may come out with the not wanting to sell him to a rival line and secondly, the teams people have been mentioning (Wolves, Wigan) may well be on their way out of the premier league this season and surely as a player you would prefer to play for an aspirational championship side on the up than an ailing prem team in decline.

As far as the wage concerns go I don't really think many of us are in a position to comment. Who knows what the Thais will be willing to stump up? We'll have to wait for January to make an accurate assesment on that front.

Sorry to knitpick, pretty sure carew is on 50k. That's on villa messageboards and stats sites.

Anyhoooo, Davies.....My heart says the thais will throw a load of money at villa come january and everything turns out peachy but my head says another prem team will come sniffing and he's going to do what's best for him.

That translates into ''Thanks Sven for picking me, all the premier league clubs can see how good I am and I can't wait to sign for one on the 1st of Jan''

I hope I'm wrong, would love him here!

Sounded like that to me. If someone clear of Premier relegation comes in for him he'll be gone.

Nothing wrong in that, he's honest enough to say and most would do the same!!

Certainly not but some need reminded of it.

I still look at the premiership defences currently and wonder which teams can offer him first team football and be within a definite chance of staying up. It'll be a massive coup to get him for longer than January and/or permanently but he'd do well to find a club that will offer him the securities we can.

From SSN:

Curtis Davies looks set to leave Aston Villa on a permanent basis after his agent confirmed there was interest in the defender.

Davies does not figure in the plans of Villa manager Gerard Houllier and has been on loan at Leicester since October.

He is available for a fee reported to be around £2.5million and a number of clubs are thought to be interested in a January swoop.

Wolves, Stoke and Bolton are among those to have been linked with the 25-year-old, while Werder Bremen are believed to want to take him to Germany.

Davies' representative Phil Sproson admits going abroad is a possibility and expects a battle for his signature.

"It's no secret Villa have made it quite clear Curtis is available," Sproson told The Guardian.

"There is an agreement in terms of the price, which is very competitive given his quality and experience.

"We are considering a couple of options, including going overseas."

He's been prone to making a few mistakes recently, I have to say I've not been as impressed as many on here, but maybe he's the best we can expect.

i think i have to agree with you there. has shown real promise, but hasn't exactly been a rock. i suppose that is why he is in the position he is in.

Third, maybe he needs "The Motivator".

In the sun today, under the Villa 'leaving' players, it has his name. Maybe a deal is done? Probably me clutching to loose straws.

The Guardian has a transfer ins/out piece today and apparently Stoke and Wolves are after him. A couple of wins before Jan (and touching distance of the play offs) could maybe sway him, but it's a big maybe. Would love him to stay but he's had the odd wobbly recently, if Ipswich counts as a football match.

nice player but he has made a few bad mistakes recently, during the doncaster game he made another terrible back pass.

i would like him to stay none the less but if he moves on i will not be gutted.
