MrSpaM Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Leicester City's leading scorer Andy King has declared he is not interested in leaving the Walkers Stadium. The 22-year-old midfielder will surely be the subject of transfer speculation in January linking him with Premier League clubs. King has scored seven goals this season and, even during City's slow start to the season, he was a stand-out performer. His form has triggered speculation that he could be on the radar of Premier League clubs, but King insists he is more than happy at City. He said: "I ignore it. In my eyes there is nowhere I would rather be at this moment than here at Leicester City. "I love playing football here, and I think that shows in how I am playing and how the team is playing. Everyone is really confident at the moment and that is the reason we are doing well. The speculation will not affect me." It is not hard to see why there may be envious eyes cast towards City. King's fantastic knack for popping up inside the penalty area at the right time has been invaluable to Sven-Goran Eriksson's side. "It is pleasing from a personal point of view," said King. "I feel I could have had a couple more but for a few decisions that haven't gone my way, but I am not going to complain. "What is most pleasing for me is the way the team is playing at the moment and the good run we are on, and hopefully we can continue that at Bristol (tomorrow). "It is something I have tried to do since I was young. I have always liked scoring goals, so I have worked on finishing and on trying to bring it into games, and fortunately I have managed that. "It is something that you do so often in training for so many years that you do it instinctively. "You have to stick with what you think and if the keeper makes a good save or you miss the target, then so be it." So as long as we don't try and make a fast buck on him, he's here for the long haul or at least til the end of the season
davieG Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 there is nowhere I would rather be at this moment than here at Leicester City. moment can mean 'short period of time' Less hope he wasn't choosing his words carefully. Unfortunately players have massive temptations put in front of them but I'd like to think with his current status within the team and the club and Sven's presence that he will stay for a while yet
ozleicester Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Kingy.. Really cant ask for anymore from a player, I agree it is slightly qualified by the "at this moment", to be honest no one can ever really commit anymore than that. The more i think about some of the players at city at the moment, we have the nucleus of a super side and ...an era?
StanSP Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 I am liking the positivity from the man. Kingy
xplicitmaterial Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Give him the armband for keeps then he'll stay id rather keep kingy than any other player we have
Fosse Boy Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Hope he means it. We might struggle to resist any sniffs from the top flight the way he keeps banging 'em in though.
MPH Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 moment can mean 'short period of time' Less hope he wasn't choosing his words carefully. Unfortunately players have massive temptations put in front of them but I'd like to think with his current status within the team and the club and Sven's presence that he will stay for a while yet I would take that as meaning he wants to play in the prem but with Leicester City.... And even if we did get promoted, there is a strong chance we will do very well with the money backing us not expecting europe or ote but we could keep him for another season... But if a team that has qualified for europe come knocking on the door... If we dont get promoted this season we can kiss his goals goodbye
Far Post Gerry Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 He'll be alright - can't imagine he wants to leave anyway, especially now the club seems to be going places. Reckon he'll be with us for while yet.
Kent Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 If it was any other player I probably wouldn't be surprised if they left but considering he's been with us since he was 15 or whatever and has came through the youth system I think he would have more attachment to the club than the average player. But you never know.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 We don't need the money and isn't he contracted until 2014? If the new owners are even half as serious as they say they are about taking the club forward then I don't see that they could even consider selling Kingy. He is our best player already and I think most people are under the impression that he hasn't even reached his full potential yet. Sven wont entertain any premier league poachers.
Uncle Monty Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Good news, even better that he signed a contract extnsion recently as well. (Or did I dream that?)
Wymsey Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 As he signed a 3/4 year deal not long ago, it would take absolute millions to get King packing his bags. We need more committed players like him unlike Fryatt.
Jimmy Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 he's seen what's happened with Ramsay (before the injury) and Delph and how they hardly featured and he isn't stupid so he'll see that and realise he'll benefit more by playing for us rather then some mid table side's reserves, plus he's already playing for Wales whilst here so its not like he needs to move for that
Walshy5 Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 he's seen what's happened with Ramsay (before the injury) and Delph and how they hardly featured and he isn't stupid so he'll see that and realise he'll benefit more by playing for us rather then some mid table side's reserves, plus he's already playing for Wales whilst here so its not like he needs to move for that Agreed but money talks
Houdini Logic Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 moment can mean 'short period of time' Less hope he wasn't choosing his words carefully. Unfortunately players have massive temptations put in front of them but I'd like to think with his current status within the team and the club and Sven's presence that he will stay for a while yet I hear what you're saying but I think that if he was trying to be clever/sneaky about this then he'd say something like 'I'm enjoying my time here at the moment' - but it's the 'nowehere else I'd rather be' that seems to sell this for me. Nice one Kingy
Joe. Before his injury he was quite involved with the first team...
Kitchandro Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 I'd try to take this with a pinch of salt. This is what most players say when they hear that other clubs might be interested in them. On the other hand King is a sensible young lad and has been here since he was 15. I think he's more likely to want to stay with us than most of our other players. I'd like to think he would stay with us considering the potential we have now, but you never know. I think it would be a mistake for him to leave as in 5 years we could easily be top half in the Prem, and he wouldn't get into a top 6 side. If it was me, I would stay, but then again I'd stay even if we were in League 2
North-LondonFox Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 Agreed but money talks Yep money talks and we'd be naieve to ignore that, but somethin tells me this kid is v level-headed and loves the club. Its one of those situations where I think he is best off with us and we can grow and move on together - thats the theory anyway!
Guest ttfn Posted 19 November 2010 Posted 19 November 2010 As much as we've improved under Sven, if king gets injured/sold we're fooked
Guest BlueBrett Posted 20 November 2010 Posted 20 November 2010 Agreed but money talks It certainly does but I think people are forgettiing that it really isn't up to Kingy whether he stays or goes at the moment. He's under contract.
Corky Posted 20 November 2010 Posted 20 November 2010 He does look happy at the club and enjoying playing in the first-team. Being made captain shows he's very highly thought of inside the club and that will help in convincing him to stay for a while.
davieG Posted 20 November 2010 Posted 20 November 2010 It certainly does but I think people are forgettiing that it really isn't up to Kingy whether he stays or goes at the moment. He's under contract. Since when has that made any difference, it didn't with Mattock and if King really wanted to leave and his agent, if he has one wanted it and had a club lined up then it's odds on he'd go whether the club liked it or not. Player power! Not that I think he will.
Webbo Posted 20 November 2010 Posted 20 November 2010 Why would he want to leave at the minute anyway. He's the star player at a club on the up, he's playing for Wales and I'd have thought he's already on a pretty decent wage. If we don't get promotion then maybe at the end of the season but not now.
Heskey2011 Posted 20 November 2010 Posted 20 November 2010 Yep money talks and we'd be naieve to ignore that, but somethin tells me this kid is v level-headed and loves the club. Its one of those situations where I think he is best off with us and we can grow and move on together - thats the theory anyway! Yeah i think along the same lines, he's been with the club for a long time and has worked his way up, getting his team to the premiership would be a massive achievement and i honesty believe that from then on it will go one of two ways. 1) We get the financial backing promised, Sven stays and gets us into a steady position in the prem, Kingy leads the way, becomes a super star 2) The money goes as does Sven, which starts off several years of manager hopping, we stay in the Championship or worse and quite rightly King goes onwards and up wards with out us. Hope it's the 1st option and forgive me for being ridiculously optimistic, but i've got a good feeling about what's happening at the club and on and off the pitch. Come on City big win expected at Bristol today.
