My 220 Mile Bike Ride In Memory Of Parents

Recommended Posts

Hi Leicester fans,

My name's James Lee, I'm 19, and have already lost both my parents. On the 4th June of next year (would have been my Father's 61st birthday) I'm planning to set off from Harrogate to Leeds on a 220 mile bike ride to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation. I'm a big Leeds fan and will be wearing United's colours down the country, one of the places on the planned route is Derby, and I'll be looking to stop off at the Walkers to have my photo taken outside the ground. Yes, I am a dirty Leeds fan, and proud, however this is a cause which puts football into perspective, and I'm sure everyone on here will all know of someone who has been affected by either cancer or something to do with the heart.

Here's the facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/James-Lees-Harrogate-London-220-mile-charity-bike-ride/166011336766050

On there it explains a little about what I'm trying to do, and why. A fundraising page will be set up within the next couple of days, so if any Leicester fans have any spare change, everything/anything would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to contact the local media soon but not for a couple of days, so it would be brilliant if you all liked the facebook page to try and get a few numbers supporting the cause. So far the planned route is: Harrogate-Leeds-Rotherham-Worksop-Nottingham(maybe)-Derby-Loughborough-Leicester-Northampton-Milton Keynes-Luton-Watford and then to enter London from the North-West of the city, I'm hoping to visit quite a few of the London grounds, QPR, Wembley, Emirates and White Hart Lane.

All money raised will be split 50/50 between the two charities. The fundraising page is: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fuk.virginmoneygiving.com%2FJamesLee&h=e7938

Thanks for your time,

James

P.S - Baffling to see why you guys are doing so poor in the league, you were the best team by far to have come to Elland Road this season.

EDIT: Just to let you know, the first Facebook link doesn't work :)

Sorry for your loss, I can empathise having recently lost a brother to prostate cancer so best of luck with the ride.

Good on you James - all the best with the fundraising. There can't be a family untouched by cancer; we lost my wife's mother to it and my best mate's wife was admitted to Hospice for palliative care on Saturday. Hope you raise a fortune.

It's times like these where football can really come together and raise a lot of money for whatever the charity may be. This is a great idea mate, good luck and sorry to here about your loss. Your parents would be more then proud.

Huge amount of respect to you for having the courage to do something so positive out of such tragic circumstances. For that reason (and the fact your name is 3 letters short of being exactly the same as mine), I've left a donation.

All the best.

James it's a great thing you intend to do in the memory of your parents. As others have said, for things like this all of football comes together and I wish you well. Once you know the date and time you will be at the Walkers let us know and I will try to attend with some other fans to have pictures taken and support your effort.

Horrible just to read that, let alone live through it.

Hope the bike ride goes well, good look boss. I'll hopefully be able to donate once some cash rolls in

Good luck fella, very worthy cause, I have no idea how you must feel after what you've been through but what you're doing shows amazing courage and by the looks of it you'll have plenty of friends to help you along the way.

P.s i did a charity bike ride round the Yorkshire dales for breast cancer, last year, my top tip is pack plenty of socks and those strawberry sugar laces, gave me the extra energy needed to get up those hills, ( got me through it so with 100 miles further to go, i'd go multipack if i was you!)

Good Luck with it matey, I wish you all the best.

Just wondered if Leeds United are doing anything to support you? I'm sure with an email/phone call to the right person they would get right behind you.

James. God bless you. I absolutely wish you all the best with this and would urge you to get in touch with all 92 league clubs. Far be it from me to suppose to make suggestions but I do have some experience with dealing with organisations on behalf of a charity and i may be able to offer some help or advice.

All the best in any case.
