Should we start Bednar next game ?

I think he can add something to the current squad, but not as a starting striker. Too similar to Howard, albeit younger and quicker - can hold the ball up front in case the wingers/forwards/central midfielders are to join the attack.

But we've seen how well we can play going fast forward with "only" Vassell in the lead when Naughton scored our third against Doncaster.

Agree, I'd love to get Vaughan I think he's perfect for that role. Vassell was good there today though

Vaughan is defintely tallented, but the kid is always injured - my mate who's and Evertonian has been waiting for him to shake off his injuries for 7 years - I think he went off injured for Palace last night as well!

I wouldn't want him at all. Even as a ball-holding option if our pace-and-passing somehow failed us, nothing I've seen suggests Bednar has the presence, touch or speed of thought to play the holding role consistently.

He seems like a footballing neanderthal to me - a throw-back to the likes of Frank Large - but they're pretty much extinct in modern football and he's a poor example of the type in any case.

No, if you really need the option of such a player get one like Heskey who has genuine pace, strength and the ability to bring others into play quickly - not someone who needs three touches to almost control the ball, further time to decide what to do and has the leap of a guy who's had his achilles tendons removed. Hell, Vassell was soaring by comparison.

Bednar's contribution could have been valuable - as an advert for that film "White Men Can't Jump" - but, for our team, he was like a bloke who was dragging our anchor while the skipper was demanding full ahead. Start him? Yes, I'd start him. On the journey back to West Brom.

Hmm, Im thinking we should drop him next week, let that supposed "injury" heal up.

I liked the front three we played yesterday, can't see why Dyer doesn't start?

I still think we need a big man up front, especially now we have Cunningham whipping in the crosses. Bedner has looked pretty useless so far and he's injured now so it irrelevant . Howard's not a bad option but I think we need better.

It'd be interesting to see what the West Brom fans think of him; I suspect he's more effective in a front two. West Brom have tended to employ that formation with Bednar, usually alongside someone like Miller or Phillips.

He's got a 1 in 2 record in this division, so he's by no means a bad player. However, he doesn't have the pace of Vassell, or the presence of Howard to play as a lone striker.

I'm with you on this one we do need a big bloke upfront howards great but we need someone whos young and hungry for goals hes getting to old to be playing week in week out. We need a replacement an going on what i've seen its not bednar.

no.

Keep the team that started the second half yesterday.

As for a return for howard, he's an impact sub and should be used like that rather than starting. In january i'd like to see us sign someone like Ishmael Miller or Danny Graham, a player who's good in the air but can play well with the ball at his feet.

Playing howard or bednar means playing it in the air and doing that and then getting the ball under control can slow an attack down more that keeping it on the deck.

I would play him (providing that he isn't injured) and leave Vassell on the bench. I would pick Dyer over Vassell any day. Bednar has a bit of passion which is what we need up front.

Reminds me of Mark De vries, sloppy, no desire and basically - shit

I made the same comparison yesterday, though I added that it was unfair on DeVries.

I would quite happily send him back to Brom and stop paying any of his wages now!

Bednar appears to still be finding his feet again at this level - and with new team mates lest we forget. I suppose though that he had plenty of practise with WBA at this level last season and besides, to my knowledge he's barely kicked a ball in anger in the Prem. this time round for the Baggies before he joined us on loan. It's a tough call like has been said already but I think he'd be better off on the bench against Ipswich, seeing how Gallagher/Dyer/Vassell all performed together yesterday....albeit that they didn't all start, with Dyer coming off the bench. However if the just mentioned trio take their starting places for granted next weekend and then perhaps automatically lose their hunger (switch off) because of it then Bednar coming on, if we're struggling at any stage, would be more prudent in my opinion. Seeing at how we've not really performed that well away from home in the league this season - and with the manner of our two "chuckaway" defeats at both Bristol City and Watford - then I'd go with that idea. I appreciate that Weale was at fault for us conceding one goal at Bristol City and another one at Watford (which meant we dropped a whopping six points, when we would've otherwise gained two had it not been for Weale's mistakes) but our outfield line up was then not good enough to rescue the situation in either game.......

Vassell is clearly better through the centre than he is out wide, so I'd start with the front 3 that started the 2nd half yesterday. As a defender I'd be more worried about playing against a pacey front 3 than a "big" front 3, so the more pace the better in my opinion.

Based on our performance yesterday after he went off and Dyer came on, no.

I know he's only played 3 games for us but i'm not inpressed at all and think either Dyer or Waghorn starting, it offers a hell of alot more pace in attack.

He doesn't deserve a place. He's not offered any improvement on what we currently have.

The 2nd half performance was due to the whole team waking up and not just the fact that Dyer came on.

Bednar is still getting used to his teammates and the style of play whilst at the same time regaining match fitness, so he's not going to be firing on all cylinders just yet.

Seeing as the next game is against Ipswich who have been on a terrible run and have Roy Keane as a boss, I can imagine their remit will be to kick the hell out of Vassell and if Dyer was to start, the same treatment for him. With this in mind, I would start Bednar with once again using Dyer as an impact sub.

if he does start. he will have a massive point to prove. it will be difficult for him to find a decent club if he fails to make any impact here. Sven isn't afraid of dropping a player if he doesn't think he's up to it though so would be surprised if he did play. wouldn't rule anything out though.
