NSNO1878 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 He was an unused sub at the weekend. Does that count? Dzeko isn't allowed to play for man city because he wasn't signed in time for the first game so surely we're not allowed to play Yak I was thinking more WHEN you beat City
ScouseFox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Judging by the reactions from that Everton board and what a few mates have been saying, most still think he's good enough for them if Moyes was to ever play a striker. So good enough for us for sure, :sge:
lcfc_jme Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Hard to say. Physically, not many can cope with his size and strength - he is good at holding the ball up though, defenders bounce off him. He is huge!! He's lost most of what pace he had before his achilles injury and if he is not motivated then he won't be running around a lot. Though he can be anonymous in a game but pop up with a goal, then again his finishing sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. When he is hot, he can score all types of goals but he's not been hot in over 2 years now. If he can hit form, he is a great asset but I'd say this season he's played one very good game (v Liverpool) and maybe a few good other ones. He has one goal this season which was a good finish against Stoke. YES. LAD. The Yak knows.
Brown Fox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 would think the formation could be a 4-1-2-1-2 Weale Naughton Bamba Hobbs Berner Abe King Wellens Gallagher Vassell Yakubu Doubt this will happen but looks good to me!
NSNO1878 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Everton forums saying £4.5-5m for permanent deal.
BoneDog Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 If Yakubu is not cup tied then he may be able to play in the replay. Dzeko not being able to play in the replay is to do with international paperwork not being sorted out before the first match or something similar I think and Yakubu obviously already has all that stuff sorted out.
NSNO1878 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 If you play him, and show him love, I think it's astute business.
reynard Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Two words sum it for me massive gamble. How fit is he? Does he really want to play for us? Will his wages piss off the others? Can't imagine we have anyone on anywhere near his wages. Hope he provides the quality we need on paper but can he deliver it on the pitch? I remain to be convinced but here's hoping!
NSNO1878 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 How fit is he? Does he really want to play for us? He was still getting game time with us and is regularly on the bench ahead of the likes of Vaughan, so he is fit. He just wants to play regularly.
brookfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 weale naughton hobbs bamba berner abe wellens king gallagher vassell yakubu Good old Sven wasn't averse to a midfield diamond for England so maybe this'll be preferred line up. With the full baks providing the width this might look like a good option.
Cat Burger Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Dropping divisions to play for us...He must've been sold on something. Perhaps the performance on Sunday was the proof in the pudding that we have the makings of a Prem team. I'm sure his motivation to score will be fine, I'm not sure however he will find a quick route to general fitness.
reynard Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 He was still getting game time with us and is regularly on the bench ahead of the likes of Vaughan, so he is fit. He just wants to play regularly. Glad to hear he is fit. Thanks for info.
skinnydipper Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Everton forums saying £4.5-5m for permanent deal. Just about worth an Akinbiyi then!
Cat Burger Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Glad to hear he is fit. Thanks for info. Snap after my above comment
Bert Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 He'll not be able to play against Man City as he wasn't registered with us for the original tie.
StanSP Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 £5m is very steep. He needs to play out of his skin and score consistently if we are gonna pay anywhere near that kind of money.
Houdini Logic Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 He was still getting game time with us and is regularly on the bench ahead of the likes of Vaughan, so he is fit. He just wants to play regularly. Don't suppose Vaughan wants to leave too?
Dylan Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Yakubu was on the bench but didn't play on Saturday in the 3rd round for Everton. Does this mean he is, or is not cup-tied?
lcfcsam Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Transfer: Yakubu Aiyegbeni swoops in to aid Eriksson’s Premier League charge Nigerian striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni is near to completing a deal to join Sven Göran Eriksson’s Leicester City revolution on loan as the Swede continues to further strengthen his ever-improving squad. On the day Manchester United’s Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak was linked with a short stay in the Midlands, it seems a deal has been struck with Everton to secure the signature of Nigeria’s number nine, who has scored twenty five times in his three year stint at Goodison Park. Following an impressive start to life with the Toffee’s, Yakubu has been beleaguered by a recurring Achilles injury and has made just eight Barclays Premier League starts this term, scoring a solitary goal. Everton manager David Moyes had previously denied rumours of Yakubu’s possible departure but according to reports Eriksson’s willingness to pay a large chunk of the player's £55,000-a-week wages was too tempting for the Scottish manager. “Yak is a Everton player and unless something happens I see no reason why he won’t be for some time” he stated earlier this week. The Leicester City camp were also tight-lipped with Derek Fazackerley, Eriksson’s right hand man, saying “He’s one of the many players we’ve been linked with and we are always striving to sign players like him”. The powerful attacker will be hoping that under the guidance of Sven Göran Eriksson, a popular figure in his home continent following his spell in charge of Cóte d’Ivoire last summer, he will be able to revive his stuttering career at the Walkers Stadium. Moyes, who signed the Nigerian for £11.25 million in 2007, has been striving for new blood in the heart of his attack and will be keen for the money saved in this deal to help his cause. Meanwhile Leicester’s new signing could feature in their nPower Championship tie with Preston North End this Saturday before their trip to Eastlands following their impressive 2-2 draw with Roberto Mancini’s men on Sunday. Manchester City vs. Leicester City can be viewed on ESPN and ESPN HD at 7.30pm on Tuesday 18th January 2010. Link
NSNO1878 Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Don't suppose Vaughan wants to leave too? Wants to? I don't know. I'm pretty sure he'll be leaving though.
StanSP Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Yakubu was on the bench but didn't play on Saturday in the 3rd round for Everton. Does this mean he is, or is not cup-tied? He's cup-tied for this round only.
Jax Demon Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 People where on here moaning about Leicester buying Vassell and saying he's past it few weeks back , I'm pretty sure he's put in near 100% effort for Leicester since he joined. I can see Yakubu coming here and doing very well and then Everton cashing in on him at end of season for a higher price maybe if he does find his scoring touch again. People worrying too much should not worry imo, Look what happened at the start of the season and how much Sven has made Leicester play better. The players respect him and from what I seen against Man City they give there all for him. Trust in Sven.
StarFox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Exciting times lads, exciting times. I just hope he's fit and not carrying any injuries but I think this is a good move by SGE.
Leicfox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Strikers have to play with confidence, and thats whats been lacking in Yakubu, and why lies with Moyes. He'll be a great signing imo after Sven has had alittle whisper in his ear.
