Yakubu - sort of confirmed

I think loan to end of the season with a view to a perm would be best. We don't want to commit big money on someone who has question marks over his recent seasons performances.

Interested to know how you think he will do for us?

Hard to say. Physically, not many can cope with his size and strength - he is good at holding the ball up though, defenders bounce off him. He is huge!!

He's lost most of what pace he had before his achilles injury and if he is not motivated then he won't be running around a lot. Though he can be anonymous in a game but pop up with a goal, then again his finishing sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

When he is hot, he can score all types of goals but he's not been hot in over 2 years now. If he can hit form, he is a great asset but I'd say this season he's played one very good game (v Liverpool) and maybe a few good other ones. He has one goal this season which was a good finish against Stoke.

I think Sven will get the best out of him. A lot of people thought Heskey was finished but a change of manager has done him the world of good.

Yakubu will sign for Leicester City after passing a medical tomorrow. He joins on season long loan but there's scope for a permanent move :scarf:

The right type of move for us. I am glad Sven has some common sense unlike other managers.

Perfect deal if we have first refusal on him in Summer. If he does really well for us, I think lots of Prem clubs will come knocking for him

I imagine Derek can take some credit for this move too as he seems to be the one who would instigate the move. Not saying Sven didn't have a say in it, but it sounds like Fazackerley has the more persuasive nature about him.

This. Hope we've got a good deal re: wages though. :trumpet:

If he finds his form he will be incredible for us, great signing especially on loan.

Like previously mentioned by quite a few people I have some concerns

Moyes is no fool and despite working with the Yak for a couple of years hasn't been able improve his declining form and when you take into account Everton are far from prolific upfront it could be a concern

His presumably big wages could put a few noses out of joint

But as we now know, its a loan situation so it pretty much removes those risks

My concern now, is how will we play?

Vassell has been doing a good job, and doesn't deserve replacing, so we could switch to 4-4-2, but our midfield trio of Abe, Wellens & King are working well together with Abe & Wellens doing all the work & King weighing in with a few goals. Dyer has been the obvious candidate for improvement for a few games, but neither Vassell or the Yak will be suited to left wing. I'd say King was the most expendable with Yak more than taking up the slack when it comes to missing Kingy's goals, but on the flip-side he's the captain and doing amazingly well, perhaps he'll just replace Vassell & we'll continue as we are

Puzzling, but then again I'm not paid £1.5m a year to sort it out

Onwards & ever upwards though :scarf:

This almost gives us the perfect blend. Players comfortable on the ball from front to back (Naughton at RB, Wellens and King in midfield, Vassell and Gallagher up front) as well as some absolute beasts in the team (Bamba at the back, Wellens in the middle and now Yakubu up front) with some strong cover on the bench. A good goalscorer up front and we're looking very, very good in this league.

Do you think this could be the end for Howard?

very possibly

but if we're to become a good squad - we need 4 forwards who can do a job, Yak, Vassell, Waggy & Howard are those 4

Oh Svennis,

Ideal for it to be a loan with view to buy, works well for everyone.

Effectively a half season trial, will not be cheap wages wise but miles better than dropping £2-3m on some player who can't get a game...:dunno:

The rest is up to Yak, fitness and attitude being the first priorities.

There is no way he should walk straight into the side now. We have to keep a settled side and we're unbeaten in the last 3. We played fantastically against man City and we have to take that confidence into the next game. It will be hampered if we keep changing it around. The front 3 of Dyer-vassell-Gallagher has worked everytime it's been used, and all 3 are playing well.

So despite his quality Yakubu should have to wait his turn.
