City Lad Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Link Looking forward to seein the Yak down the Walkers but his injury record is a concern. That injury was ages ago and he still aint recovered?? Still I trust :sge:
BoneDog Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 He'll not be able to play against Man City as he wasn't registered with us for the original tie. Ah right, I thought it was just international paperwork stuff that had caused Dzeko not being able to play. Shame he can't be involved but all the lads who played in the first match deserve another crack at them so never mind.

Still I trust :sge: It's an Achilles injury. It will probably never heal properly because it's such a tender and fragile part of the body.
Dames Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 A front 3 of Vassell - Yakubu - Dyer would be potent.
Salieri Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 From the Everton forum : lads on foxestalk say its permanent and its.........£2.3m I might have missed a few pages but that ain't true, is it?
Spiritwalker Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I agree with the guys saying we will play with 2 up front now. Sven's usually played 2 strikers and I think he was just waiting for the right players to fit the system. Dyer may be the one to move to the bench and then used as an impact sub.
Kent Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 From the Everton forum : I might have missed a few pages but that ain't true, is it? No, it's supposed to be on loan til the end of the season.
Spiritwalker Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 From the Everton forum : I might have missed a few pages but that ain't true, is it? No - I've read them all on this thread and there is no mention of this.
Salieri Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 No, it's supposed to be on loan til the end of the season. Aye, that's what I thought. Loan with a view to a perm, ideal.
Finnegan Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Absolutely brilliant news - as a loan signing. I was incredibly apprehensive about us paying reportedly high Premiership sums when I don't really think that's his level any more. But if we can get him fit and up to speed I think he'll be very solid at this level.
Corky Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Great signing- give him the service and he'll score. :sge:
MPH Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 This almost gives us the perfect blend. Players comfortable on the ball from front to back (Naughton at RB, Wellens and King in midfield, Vassell and Gallagher up front) as well as some absolute beasts in the team (Bamba at the back, Wellens in the middle and now Yakubu up front) with some strong cover on the bench. A good goalscorer up front and we're looking very, very good in this league. My first thought is Sven's preferred formation of 4-4-2 with Yak and Vassell upfront, the dilemma would be who plays in midfield though. this will indeed be intruiging as to how sven sorts this all out.... to keep the current formation and for the Yak to slot in up front on his own MIGHT mean vassell dropping back to the wing and i would be very suprised to see gallagher keep his place... sven is all about power and speed and those are probably gallaghers two weak points..... if he reverts to 4-4-2 then one of wellens, king and Abe will get dropped.... lets be honest... it wont be King ... Abe has been consistently good but what a game by wellens against Man City... how can be be dropped after that? its well known that Sven prefers 4-4-2 but has gone on record as saying our midfield isnt strong enough for that right now. I can only see a front 3 of Yakubu, Vassell and Dyer which would be dynamite in this division.. but fairly harsh on Gallagher who had pinpoint accuracy with his deadballs recently....
RowlattsFox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Really interesing to see how we go formation wise, but good teams need good options hopefully this will give us more. Not really a fan of Vassell on wing, Gallagher's set pieces have been improved and with Bamba looking a threat then he could be crucial for us. Dyer will be the one that misses out i'd assume. The main positive of Vassell upfront is his willingness to chase and run the channels, can't see Yakubu doing that.
cairnsy Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Think loan till summer is a good idea, see If he can get back into form like Vassel is doing or just be a bednar x2. If he's good thn permanent if not we throw the shit away. Win win for is
Legend_in_blue Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 The loan deal is fine. I'm all for the loan deal but this makes troubled reading... Everton manager David Moyes had previously denied rumours of Yakubu’s possible departure but according to reports Eriksson’s willingness to pay the players £55,000-a-week wages was too tempting for the Scottish manager. “Yak is a Everton player and unless something happens I see no reason why he won’t be for some time” he stated earlier this week. The Leicester City camp were also tight-lipped with Derek Fazackerley, Eriksson’s right hand man, saying “He’s one of the many players we’ve been linked with and we are always striving to sign players like him”. £55 000 a week? How long before the squad gets restless with one or two players on huge wages in comparison with everyone else?
Guest BlueBrett Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 We've signed Yakubu?! There's going to be a few championship defenders shi.tting themselves over playing us now! Right.. now it seems we have got what everyone wanted and we've secured our big man up front..what's next?

Can't see Gallagher being dropped, Sven has played him consistently since he arrived and he has very much been ahead of Dyer in the pecking order. Can't see us moving to 4-4-2 at this point either. I'm pretty sure it will be a front 3 of Vassell - Yakubu - Gallagher with Dyer waiting in the wings to add pace and freshen the attack late in games and Howard there as a straight replacement for Yakubu if needed. It's Waghorn who seems most likely to miss out to me (along with Dyer losing his starting place). But we'll see. Feed the Yak and he will score....

Stevosevic Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Not bothered about his wages. not for us to worry about, and if we get promoted, well worth it.
crisp monster Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Depends on his desire and fitness for me Really not sure if he'll have the right effect on the pitch or in the dressing room Is this signing for the team or to raise our profile out in Asia? Svens done great so far so I'll back him and any players he brings in but I would rather we build a team with someone like cox or lambert up front than going for broke like we seem to be Just an opinion lads!
Haydos Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Is this signing for the team or to raise our profile out in Asia? Is he secretly thai?
Stevosevic Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Nothing to say he can't be our long term option to build a team around. Guest BlueBrett Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Looking forward to Saturday even more than usual now! I'll be fascinated to see what kind of shape he looks in and what formation Sven comes up with. For some reason I'm feeling a lot more enthusiastic about this signing now that it has actually happened than I was when we were originally linked.
