Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 There is no point saying a point away from home is good, because it isnt. Not really, we cant afford to throw points away or we'll get no where. If we are going to make the Playoffs we cant afford to draw at piss poor teams like PNE. this would ahve been a good win, us just outside the playoffs and would have given us momentum which is they key at this stage. Yes Millwall and Sheff Utd are winnable games, but would any of us bet on us getting 6 points from those games? Millwall are on a decent run and Sheff Utd will improve under a new manager. 2 points i more realistic really, which agin isnt good enough, and why a win today would have been so big.
FuriousFox46 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Stating the obvious - Not good enough. Great that Yakubu is able to score though but how many clear cut chances did we have to kill the game that we didn't take? It's not good enough in the Championship and it won't be in the Prem.
Wymsey Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 No no to the playoffs certainly. 7 points off 6th placed and played more games than most. Pissed off.
The Doctor Posted 15 January 2011 Author Posted 15 January 2011 need 2.1 points per game from the rest of the season to get 76 (which is about what we need for 6th place) - possible but we need to sort out away form, 3 wins away in the league all season just isn't good enough.
Kitchandro Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Away games are shit. I don't know why I get my hopes up for them.
lestajigs Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Bet the traitor Hume celebrated like hed won cup at Wembley? TRAITOR Yea makes me laugh about Hume most on here wanna shag the pants off him, although he jumped ship when we got relegated!! ****
Guest Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 4 points every two games - I'll probably take that. Will our next signing score on his debut too?
Wymsey Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 We can still be near the relegation places if the others below us win their games in hand.
foxfan13 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Disappointed but i'm not going to start slagging off the players, i'm sure none of them went out there today thinking 'i know, today i'm only going to play for 85 mins and then give up and be happy with a point' and i'm quite sure Gallagher didn't try to hit the bar each time either. Yes we need to vastly improve points taken away from home and yes we need to be more clinical in front of goal. i'm sure Yakubu will help with at least the latter
somebum Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Shows how fickle some people are. If we would have scored in the last minute, people would be saying 'oh yes, he we go, we're going up' etc
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 There is no point saying a point away from home is good, because it isnt. Well it is though, it's just the circumstances of today which devalues the away point a touch.
acooling08 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 We can still be near the relegation places if the others below us win their games in hand. Don't be ridiculous. We are certainly not going to get relegated this season. The teams below us are down there because they won't get back-to-back wins in their games in hand.
foxfan13 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Prestons players would also have tried to raise their games today to try and cement themselves into the new bosses plans. Would've been a completely different game had ferguson still been in charge i reckon, but then again he wasn't so a point is a point..
acooling08 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Well it is though, it's just the circumstances of today which devalues the away point a touch. Against the bottom of the table team though, you MUST win. Daggers has just said exacly this.
The Doctor Posted 15 January 2011 Author Posted 15 January 2011 Shows how fickle some people are. If we would have scored in the last minute, people would be saying 'oh yes, he we go, we're going up' etc and they'd possibly have a point - last minute goals really lift the spirit and spur the team on while conceding late equalisers could really damage the morale and possibly send us into a tail-spin.
Dylan Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Another game where we've dropped points where we shouldn't have. Hull- should've killed it off in the first half. Sheff Utd- although we grabbed a last min equaliser, we were dominant at the start, failed to convert our chances, and fell behind. Watford- after coming back from 2 down, and being dominant in the 2nd half, I think we should've won yet we gave them a winner. Reading- Late winner if I remember right. Today- late equaliser, failing to convert chances. That's 11 points there. Yes these things will happen in football, but it happens TOO OFTEN. If we had even 5-6 more points from them, we'd been in 7th on GD, and in with a much greater chance of playoffs. Like I said earlier, last season we scrapped for these extra points and they proved to be vital.
Kitchandro Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Well it is though, it's just the circumstances of today which devalues the away point a touch. But these are the worst team in the league. If we can't beat them how will we beat anyone else away from home? One or two away draws are OK in our position but if you then add it up with all the losses we've had away from home it's no good. We have dropped a place today, and as we keep saying, other teams have games in hand. At this stage we can't afford to draw away like some other teams can, we need to win games against shit teams like Preston
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 On the plus side, at least I am now pleased I didnt go! Hearing these callers on RL saying 'we need to be more clinical', is pissing me off, we know that isa aporblem so why keep saying it?! But the problem isnt goalscoring at all, it is the defence. Yes we dont score enough and kill games off by scoring, but that is irrelevant. We cant defend still, letting in stupid golas by lack of communication and concentration. People say 'we have only let in two in three games', but that doesnt matter as its when we are conceding them which is the problem and has been all season. Last season we didnt score many at all, especially away from home. We have scored more this season than this time last year. Yet we won games away from home, and picked up good draws rather than throwing away points. All the away games we did win last season, were won by one goal. We didnt score but we knew we could defend, which this year, we cant do either. We would have won this game one nil last season. So frustrating it really is.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Against the bottom of the table team though, you MUST win. Which is exactly the 'circumstance' I'm talking about! It's no surprise are fans are perpetually moaning if they they don't realise that an away point is good enough the majority of the time.
orangecity23 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 We can still be near the relegation places if the others below us win their games in hand. You do realise that the teams with games in hand have to play their games in hand against each other, don't you Wymsey? Not all the teams with games in hand will win them all. Some teams might move up, others will stay exactly where they are. Stop panicing.
cc_star Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Which is exactly the 'circumstance' I'm talking about! It's no surprise are fans are perpetually moaning if they they don't realise that an away point is good enough the majority of the time. True, but it isn't good enough for us considering we've dropped so many on the road and we need to go on a run
wurmer Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Personally don't care about the game on Tuesday - we should just stick out a 2nd string side, as I think they are gonna batter us anyway. Millwall is more important, and would rather the 1st team go into Saturday on the back of this draw, than on the back of a potentially heavy defeat.

It's no surprise are fans are perpetually moaning if they they don't realise that an away point is good enough the majority of the time. But it's not good enough this time, that's why we're moaning
