Finnegan Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 I can't help but think "vile character" is a bit overboard. Don't get me wrong, I think it was out of line and I think he should have been forced to make a public apology and probably been dropped for a few games but I think the sacking is a tad extreme.
breadandcheese Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Brilliant news. The telegraph website is showing the clip where Gray gestured to his female counterpart Just put your wife/daughter in that position. Sexism cannot be tolerated and Gray is an arrogant Jock plonker - glad to see him go. Why should Andy Gray be held up to higher standards than the rest of the country as a whole? His gesture to a female counterpart was the sort of line you hear up and down the country on nights out (obviously without the microphone bit). People just roll their eyes, ignore it or snigger. Either way, it's disregarded pretty quickly.. I also like how sexism can't be tolerated but you're quite comfortable with casual banter racism - that arrogant Jock plonker.
dave the caveman Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 The only way Sky can make up for this embarrasing display of limp wristed, PC pandering melodrama is by appointing another Scot as his replacement. Step forward Frankie Boyle. If nothing else he'll at least add a sense of perspective to this massive overreaction.

broughtonblue Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Women's football is shit. Women officiating is shit. They only said what the majority of football fans would have a laugh about down the pub. Its been blown way out of proportion and those of you crying about it need to lighten up. This exactly! Some things were made for each other, fish & chips, salt & vinegar, curry & rice, but women & football, do me a favour!
sdb Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 This exactly! Some things were made for each other, fish & chips, salt & vinegar, curry & rice, but women & football, do me a favour! cementing your status as a complete nobhead
Head Honcho Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 I'll bet Gary and co will be on their best behaviour tonight.
FoxyPV Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 You'd get at least a written warning in an office or any other workplace trying that on a female colleague if not a sexual harrassment case so he was probably on his last legs before the remark last week
Thracian Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 For me, although seemingly flippant, the remarks were unquestionably disrespectful with the one in the Christmas Show preparation being unacceptable and inexcusable. Yes. Gray is a capable analyst, but that comment would rightly cause offence to a lot of people. It's a big blow for the guy to lose his job but I've little sympathy for him. Make those sorts of remarks in any work place and all sorts of potentially disruptive reactions could be expected. Totally out of order and unprofessional.
broughtonblue Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 cementing your status as a complete nobhead Perhaps you are right, maybe my comment about women & football not going together at all was a bit over the top, after all I did used to like the sky sports cheerleaders!
breadandcheese Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 You'd get at least a written warning in an office or any other workplace trying that on a female colleague if not a sexual harrassment case so he was probably on his last legs before the remark last week Only if a complaint was made about his behaviour. As we've heard nothing about this incident until the leak of the latest video, you would assume no complaint was made. Moreover, as he's been sacked presumably for gross misconduct on the basis of this latest video being released into the public domain, he has grounds for unfair dismissal on the basis that the last video escaped from his employer's possession. I'm thinking he got a decent settlement to go.
Alexikokopops Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 He wasn't sacked for the comments, it was the video with the behaviour at Charlotte Jackson that lead to the sacking. The look on her face and her lack of response gives the impression of someone who's used to that behaviour and used to having to ignore that kind of thing. This is, of course, pure speculation. I can't imagine getting away with that kind of thing at my work place either way
Kent Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Anyone else sad to see Gray go? I liked him as a commentator/analyst.
Cat Burger Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Can't believe no one has whipped this one back out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7gCYAtmYSI
Fox92 Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 I'm sure it was you that said before you like Notts Forest. No such club. Women's football is shit. Women officiating is shit. They only said what the majority of football fans would have a laugh about down the pub. Its been blown way out of proportion and those of you crying about it need to lighten up. Absolute farce. Sky get rid of their top guy over a load of nonsense. Exactly. Oh, Fox92 - we still on for netball tonight mate? Don't tell.
StanSP Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Anyone else sad to see Gray go? I liked him as a commentator/analyst. Did you like him as a womaniser though?
sdb Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Perhaps you are right, maybe my comment about women & football not going together at all was a bit over the top, after all I did used to like the sky sports cheerleaders! i went OTT too, apologies. It's the 21st century though, and Gray et al are past their sell by date imo.
lildave3 Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Did you like him as a womaniser though? I personally couldn't give a shit. Sky Sports coverage won't be the same without him and he's going to improve the coverage of wherever he ends up immensely.
ajthefox Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 this has been blown well out of proportion, being sacked seems ott to me. I'll bet every male on here, even the ones moaning about Gray have said, at some point in their lives some sexist remark about women knowing fck all about football. Joke or not it's the same principle and shows how quick some are to point the finger. Him being a broadcaster is no different, he made some remarks in private with a mate like anyone else it's just his was taped.

HE WAS NOT SACKED FOR THE REMARKS HE WAS SACKED FOR THE INCIDENT WITH CHARLOTTE JACKSON IN DECEMBER! If anyone can honestly say they could get away with that kind of thing in their workplace without some kind of disciplinary at least then they're either lying, or work in a very strange place
Alexikokopops Posted 25 January 2011 Posted 25 January 2011 Exactly. Imagine you work for a second. You gesture at a female colleague, pull your trousers down a bit, before saying "could you tuck this in for us" in a way that is in no way "banter" and which the collegue clearly doesn't appreciate, before turning around and bursting into laughter with a male colleague at the whole thing. What would you expect your employers to do?
