Can't believe some people are defending them! As has been said, what they said was really brutal, and completely unfounded. Personally I always enjoy MNF with those two, but they can sod off now imo.

The only thing I hate more than ridiculous "PC" is people using the world's irritation with ridiculous "PC" as an excuse to be fucking abusive.

And the thing is she's not there because of "PC", she probably had to pass the same tests and do the same course as anyone who wants to officiate in the professional game.

She's there on merit.

Their comments were Indefensible in every way and will get far more publicity than such ignorance will ever deserve.

No wonder they were reported "unavailable for comment".

I tell you what though, that woman who commentates is awful at commentating

Yeah, the one on the FL Show is terrible. Made me cringe.

I agree but not because she's a woman, it's because she is truly awful.

I used to have the same opinion of Gabby Yorath but tbf she's improved quite a bit recently.

Is it bad that, whilst COMPLETELY agreeing that the remarks are sexist, unfair and inappropriate, I can't help but let out the tiniest smile when I hear them say those things? Maybe it just comes from knowing that they don't think they're being recorded, I dunno - definitely annoyingly smile-inducing though...

I can see where you're coming from. Whilst like you say the comments are obviously wrong considering the decision in question was actually right I can't say I think any less of both of those guys after it. If it was on air then it would be out of order but considering it wasn't I don't think its a disgrace like I'm sure some people will. Not that I'm against them being pulled out tonight because Sky pretty much has to take some action against them to save face.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for making any arguments against female officials but I'm not 100% convinced that a female lino is going to be as good as a guy just purely because of the physical side of the job. Just like the forces don't let women fight on the front line (and if someone comes back at me and makes a direct comparison with being a linesman and solider I won't even dignify it with an answer). I don't think you can argue that their decision making is going to be any worse like Keys & Gray did though.

So its OK to be misogynist pricks as long as its said off the mic and between two pals?

And if by "PC brigade" you mean people who won't stand for discriminatory comments based on gender, race etc., then I am the chairman of said brigade.

They should go back to the 1860's where they belong.

To be honest while in trusted company most people will make comments that would never be for the wider public consumption.

Like things you would say to your best mate but would never repeat to your boss.

I agree that on a capability to do the job level there should be no difference, so their stupid comments about the offside rule are just that, stupid.

I am of the opinion however that women have no place in the men's professional game, because as we all witness on a Saturday afternoon, it's a highly charged passionate atmosphere where at times officials come under heavy fire from players. A spitting with rage Savage or Barton in the face of a woman referee?? And when it all spirals like it often does and fuming players are everywhere? In my opinion that is not a fair environment to expect a woman to perform in. And in turn it's not a fair environment to expect a man to behave live he should to a woman.

Anyone who has played the game at any level will know that at times your passion and anger can boil over, and do we want our pro's being pilloried because they spoke to a woman in an intimidating manner? And then as a result accusations in the media that the referee was intimidated by certain individuals and made decisions based on that?

It's men's football, it needs men's officials in my opinion.

Though like I said before to suggest that a woman cant understand the rules is a stupid comment.

Female referees are alright.

Keys and Grey should know better. Especially when they're coming up with comments about a female linesman that made the right decision.

It makes them look like plonkers, but I don't consider them to be two of the brighter kind, anyway.:giggle:

Nicole Petignat has been in the game for years over here and she's quite "respected" (ahem):

Female football presenters, however...

Jesus Christ you're a dinosaur.

If anybody, regardless of their sex, wants to knowingly put themselves in that situation who the fuck are you to say they can't? We're not rounding poor, defenceless women up off the street and forcing them to be referees. They want to do it and anyone who knows football (and believe it or not, Mack, some women do know about football - crazy, right!?) knows referees are going to get some stick.

As for it's not fair on the players because they have to treat her like a woman!? Are you kidding me!? Players shouldn't be shouting at referees, crowding referees, intimidating referees. It isn't some sort of traditional part of the sport that we all love, something that adds a bit of banter. It's just ridiculous and slows the game down.

Rugby's far more volatile than football. You get far more stamps, sly punches and scraps per game than you do in football - all because it's a lot more emotionally charged, which makes sense given the level of physical contact. But how often does that spill over in to squaring up to a ref? Never. Ever.

Football just needs to breed a culture of growing the fuck up and leaving the officials be after the whistle's gone, regardless of the cup size of the ref.

you're forgetting that the vast, vast majority of male officials are terrible these days! the standard is lower than i can ever remember. And surely if a female wants to be a linesman she should be allowed? it's very sweet of you to say they can't handle an argument etc, but i'm sure they're grown up enough. Personally i'd expect fewer on-field arguments anyway. Players throwing handbags in front of a female official would be embarrassing for them.

I'll repeat once more my comments in shorter form for people who read the first line and flew off the handle without reading all I wrote.

I THINK WOMEN ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF REFEREEING FOOTBALL MATCHES.

But the passion and testosterone in the game means it's such a heated male environment to put a woman into that environment and ask her to make decisions that are going to get scrutinized but 30+ TV cameras and some of the harshest newspapers hacks in the World means it will only end in tears.

Yes I do believe a man has a duty to behave towards a woman in a certain way. Things I would say or do with a male friend I would not see as appropriate to do with a female associate.

However tomboy a girl may pro port to be a man is bigger, stronger, has different chemicals that manipulate his decisions and actions and only a man who has the same can understand.

Whatever you say the bottom line is somewhere somewhere along the line will point the finger because it's a woman, will think they can get an advantage because it's a woman, 22 pumped up men on a pitch giving their all for the cause and having to take into account that a woman is officiating the game. Cant work, wont work, and shouldn't be tried.

It's nothing to do with the ability to understand the job, it's to do with the environment. A problem is being created that need not be there.

And for those who associate such things with racism really dont get it. The colour of a skin really does make no difference, but a woman and a man are different, physically, socially, chemically, we are different animals and have different roles within society. There is no comparison.

I read your whole post and responded to your point, never did I suggest you said women make bad refs.

And I quote...

"They want to do it and anyone who knows football (and believe it or not, Mack, some women do know about football - crazy, right!?)"

And as for anyone who just calls me a ****, ****, twat, willy puller, idot, walnut?! etc etc without qualifying the abuse... well, says it all really.

I'm sure there are loads of men who read this forum who cant be bothered to argue with the PC high horse brigade.

I'm joining them, and I'm entitled to my opinion even if you disagree with it.

Getting banned is ridiculas. I hope they don't get fully banned.

One little comment. Mainly I agree with it, women shouldn't be in football -- I don't agree with women's football full stop never mind women being in our game.

Anyway, all the bad the goes on in the country and this is everywhere, all over the news etc. One comment.

Ehhh??! The fvck is wrong with women's football?!? You're a fvcking lunatic. Personally, I'd prefer every woman in the world to take up playing football than be a fat fvcking monster popping out sprogs left, right and centre. If truth be told, I think women's football is far more violent, contact-orientated and rough than the supposed "bigger, stronger" version the men play. Those bitches love a tackle (yes I get the irony of my use of the term "bitches", but that's most definitely what women are on the pitch!).

For what it's worth, I'm well aware that a female official at a football match is always going to be roundly abused by the fans for less than their (often atrociously inept) male counterparts are. Doesn't mean that they're going to do any worse a job than some of the cvnts I've seen ref games in my time. However, that's the fans. The players going up to the ref and routinely abusing them and trying to bully them into a decision even with a bloke doing the job are fvcking moronic and it's that kind of shit that needs eradicating from the game - not women. It's actually one of the few things I think rugby has going for it.
