z-layrex Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 This is disgusting. Weale has been brilliant for us and this is how he's thanked? All because he doesn't have a fancy fu**ing name?
Simmo86 Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 This is disgusting. Weale has been brilliant for us and this is how he's thanked? All because he doesn't have a fancy fu**ing name? He was brilliant last season, this season not so good!
Joe. Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 This is disgusting. Weale has been brilliant for us and this is how he's thanked? All because he doesn't have a fancy fu**ing name? Do you really want Conrad Logan as our number two? Who's to say Ricardo's even going to be automatic first choice?
I am Rod Hull Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Or maybe Ricardo is actually BETTER than Weale?
z-layrex Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Or maybe Ricardo is actually BETTER than Weale? NOTHING IS BETTER THAN WEALE!
hackneyfox Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Do you really want Conrad Logan as our number two? Who's to say Ricardo's even going to be automatic first choice? Sven hopefully Or maybe Ricardo is actually BETTER than Weale? Could be
Jake Shapiro Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Decent signing. Can defo bring some experience to the team. Dont actually see him in the 1st team tho but may be useful if anything happens to Weale (not fit or w/e)
Ozwin Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 He is a lot younger than I thought he was, he's got loads of years left in him, could be a very good signing in the long run.
ScouseFox Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. He's been on trail, so as said by others, Sven knows and thinks he's up to it. On a free, ex international with heaps of experience. Not gonna complain.
lildave3 Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Got visions of Vassell having a flashback in training and going crazy like Monk from Mean Machine.
MC Prussian Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 In terms of age, Ricardo's just at his peak for a goalkeeper. Hope this is not just a publicity stunt for the club and Pereira's up for it. He hasn't featured a lot for Betis recently. I bet Sven's already thinking ahead - and toying with a scenario of a penalty shootout in the playoff final. Ricardo doing a Kalac? In any case, Vassell will be happy to practice spot kicks with his new friend.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Think Riccardo might be able to save a long shot unlike Weale
Finnegan Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 This is disgusting. Weale has been brilliant for us and this is how he's thanked? All because he doesn't have a fancy fu**ing name? Before you throw your toys out of the pram, I'm only quoting you because you were the first I noticed making the point - my frustration is generally aimed at a whole segment of our support and I've expressed it long before. Seriously, get a grip, the lot of you. It doesn't matter how well any one individual in our side performs, Sven adopted a squad that failed to get promotion from the Championship and is being asked to build a Premiership side. That means improving every, single player. Throw loyalty and sentiment aside, they're irrelevant attributes. It isn't personal, it isn't a slight against Weale, Sven just simply thinks he can find better. If Ricardo doesn't turn out to be an improvement then fine. Insult Sven's judgement or his scouting, nobody's above criticism. But all of this ranting and raving about how Weale (and other City players) are superior before we've even seen their replacements play is starting to get seriously chuffing boring. People need to start putting faith in the gaffer. In terms of age, Ricardo's just at his peak for a goalkeeper. Footballers aren't all generic, mind. Early thirties might be "peak" for most goalkeepers but that doesn't mean they're all the same. Whilst I'm advocating cautious optimism with this signing and generally agree with the sentiment of most of your post, I'm pretty sure we can be confident that Ricardo is past his best and expecting him to be world class is likely getting our hopes a little high.
z-layrex Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I totally agree with you, but the kirkland fiasco has made me very precious when it comes to weale. Im probably just being stubborn because I like him a lot no homo but it feels like he gets disrespected considering how good he is.
Finnegan Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 And my own personal bias is probably swung slightly the other way because I think he's extraordinarily average, error prone and hugely over-hyped by our support off the back of a few good stops. But still, Kirkland was only scuppered due to injury - maybe that was a risk Sven shouldn't have taken, but I don't doubt that had he settled he'd have been a better stopper than Weale. Likewise Ricardo. The language barrier is the only thing that concerns me there. We have a fragmented, broken defence that needs time to gel and I'm a firm believer in goalkeepers orchestrating that solidity. I hope he picks up English quickly, or at least develops an effective way to communicate with them. Screaming and pointing should do.
Fox You Forest Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 He's never looked at the same standard as last season right from the word go, had a nightmare game at Rotherham in pre season and bar one or two decent games has never really pulled it together.
B52 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 What a few doesn't realise is that he has loads of experience. Experience he can show to our other keepers and the Academy. He may also be the type of goalie with great communication between the defence so maybe Weale pick it up and turns out to be great in a year or so...
B52 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 ..Ricardo. Well, if Vitor is fit it's allright. Bamba has no problem and Sven speaks portugeese. But most importent is that Weale can learn somehing new with this competition....
Toby or not Toby Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 With him signing until end of season i have a feeling he will be back up presuming Weale doesn't drop a clanger tonight!
The Doctor Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 How long it take Vassell to find full match fitness and sharpness? I don't want to be substituting the goalie on 60 minutes every game. You could just as easily say anyone thinking he will be good, remind yourself of Kirkland. I think it is right to have concerns about how ready and fit he is, but Sven has seen him in training and we haven't so I will trust him to make the right call, but I wouldn't be suprised if he is just an experienced back up. vassell had been out of contract for 4/5 months before we signed him, ricardo has been training with betis for all but the last month or so of this season.
Ric Flair Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Haha, i've never known a goalie be subbed regularly due to lack of match fitness. They are hardly running about all game are they?
Jimbo Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Am I the only one not so confident in Ricardo? Sure he has experience etc but he's, shall we say, a very continental goal keeper, in other words not very good with crosses. I notice no one has posted a youtube video of Greece's goal in the Euro 2004 final
