If we ever got to a penalty shoot out, Sven could do a Martin and bring Ricardo on for Weale

Haha, I was thinking that. I know Joe Hart wears short sleeves but he's already English...

'Don't worry, I'll win it for you.'

Gloves off. Quality signing I think.

Thing is, he`s not a free agent for no reason, is he.

Thats a concern, as is, why no one else seems to have been interested in taking him on.

Always seemed a decent shot stopper, as i remember, but pretty iffy on crosses!

I see your point, but his contract was only terminated this month. We are seemingly the first to contact him, although I'll bet he was offered to us by agents.

Anyone thinking he will be crap, remind yourself of vassell.

How long it take Vassell to find full match fitness and sharpness? I don't want to be substituting the goalie on 60 minutes every game.

You could just as easily say anyone thinking he will be good, remind yourself of Kirkland.

I think it is right to have concerns about how ready and fit he is, but Sven has seen him in training and we haven't so I will trust him to make the right call, but I wouldn't be suprised if he is just an experienced back up.

"1) Portuguese GK Ricardo has signed for #lcfc until the end of the season subject to International clearance. Won't play vs Shef Utd"-

stringers exact tweet, the "1)" suggests their could be more b4 the end of the transfer window

Cautiously optimisitc about this.

He hasn't played in a while but you can't argue his pedigree and it's a free after all.

And lets not forget his wages would be cheaper than Given, so you can't complain about that either.

Shame for Weale though.

edit: Sky have just caught on and reported, although they said it was a loan

If he plays we'll have some dodgy punches from crosses ad corners! Better shake the defence awake!!

He wont have to move off his line.

SOL SOL BAMBA!

Good signing I think.

Though does the fact he is on a short term contract mean he is only a short term measure? If thats the case surely he wouldnt be first choice keeper or he would be here for longer?

Low risk acquisition, was a very good keeper not very long ago so am cautiously optimistic. It's not as if Weale's shit and we desperately need a keeper either so it won't cause a crisis if he doesn't cut it.

Anybody know whether he can speak English? I think with Vitor and Yuki struggling, wouldn't help with another one who needs a translator plus I think a keeper needs to be very vocal with his back four.

If that's not a problem then a good signing at this level, possible back-up though until Weale makes any errors

Eriksson Swoops For Ricardo

Posted on: Mon 31 Jan 2011

Leicester City is pleased to confirm the deadline day signing of former Portuguese international goalkeeper, Ricardo, on a short-term contract until the end of the season, subject to an International Transfer Certificate.

The 34-year-old was previously at Spanish side, Real Betis before his contract was concluded by mutual consent. He has been on trial with the Foxes for the past week.

Ricardo is well-known to City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson after ending England's dreams at both Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup after penalty saving and scoring heroics against the Three Lions when the Swede was England boss.

Leicester striker, Darius Vassell, was one of the England players who were thwarted by Ricardo in 2004 as his penalty was saved by the talented stopper.

City boss, Eriksson, was pleased with the signing after considering a move for an extra goalkeeper since arriving at the club.

"I am delighted that we've been able to secure Ricardo on a permanent contract. He has impressed during his time at the club and brings extra competition to our goalkeeping department.

Ricardo is an excellent shot-stopper with agility and he plays with great confidence. He has played at the highest level and will be a great addition to our squad. Plus, he owes me after 2004 and 2006, so I'm sure he will be keen to do well for us."

Worst case scenario he is back up....cant be no worse than

Another big time signing. Still, he has to be the new number 1. That clown Weale or whatever his name is in goal is the biggest joke I have seen between the posts for a very, very long time.

You're either a WUM or never bothered watching some of the truly awful keepers we've had over the past few years. What the hell you get out of football I don't know, I'm pretty sure I've never read a good word about any of our players from you.
