bald reynard Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Can those that went, post some player ratings please - to help us poor mortals unable to go to the game ?
martyn Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 7.5 Naughton 8 Bamba 8 Mee 7.5 Van Aanholt 6.5 Abe 6.5 Wellens 6.5 King 8.5 Gallagher 7 Yakubu 5 Vassell 5.5 Subs: Dyer 6.5, Oakley 6.5, Hobbs 6 I guess these ratings probably look a little stingy after a 4-1 win, but the scoreline flattered us.
Bluefoxtim Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale - 7 Naughton - 7 Mee - 7 Bambi - 7 Van An - 7 King - 7 Wellens - 5 Abe - 6 Vassell - 6 Yakubu - 6 (Some were slagging him off a bit, but got ANOTHER assist and continually drew defenders away - see King's 2nd goal) Gallagher - 7 We didn't THAT well. Just some top drawer finishes.
Webbo Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale-7.5 confident display Naughton-8 good game, brilliant goal Mee-7 okay Bamba-8 how can anyone not love this guy Van Aanholt-7 okay Abe-7 Wellens-7.5 King-8.5 more involved than of lately.Took both goals really well. Vassell-7 tried hard, but if you're going to play him wide you might as well not bother. Yakubu-6Terrible, jogged when he should have sprinted, his touch was awful. Gallagher-7.5 Good contribution, quality goal. SUBS: Dyer-7.5 If he'd been on longer he'd have probably got an 8 Oakley-7.5 Hobbs n/a
ScouseFox Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 6.5 - nothing to do really. Naughton 8.5 - superb goal line clearence, even better hit for his goal. Bamba 8 - one day he'll badly **** up one of his walks/tricks out of defence, but whilst he doesn't, Mee 7.5 PVA 6 - not bad, seemed eager, few mistakes. Wellens 6.5 Abe 6 King 8.5 - goals win games. Kingy scores goals. Kingy wins games. Vassell 6 Yakubu 5.5 - didn't do much really, bit greedy a few times towards the end when he had better options. Gallagher 8 - brings a better balance to the side. All three subs 7.
Kitchandro Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 7 - Can't remember him having much to do but what he did do he did coolly. From where I was sitting he could do nothing with the goal Naughton 9 - We need to sign this guy up, he was terrific. Read the game well, got forward well, was calm under pressure, and his goal was the best I've ever seen live (sorry to say I wasn't there for Nalis' against Leeds or Gudjonsson against Hull, but it was up there with the best strikes in recent years anyway) Bamba 8.5 - The most entertaining centre back I've ever seen! Theguy is nuts, but I love him. No complaints about his performance but he did have a few 'heart in mouth' moments! Could easily have scored if Yak had given him the one-two. Mee 8.5 - Didn't really put a foot wrong today, some great tackles and won most things in the air. Has redeemed himself from a bad start with 2 very good performances, so well done to the lad. Van Aanholt 4.5 - He was poor at Bramall Lane and poor at the Wharf today. He's quick but he didn't pass it well. Crossing was terrible. Defended ok. Not proving to be better than Berner at the moment, but it's only 2 games. Abe 6 - I thought he had a decent game, passed it well. You have to ask though why Barnsley seemed to cut through the middle of us so often (though I blame King and Wellens for that too). Wellens 7 - Another good game, ran the midfield well. Again, the midfield 3 have to take some flak for the way Barnsley cut through us. King 8 - Did what he does best with his goals, cracking finishes. Used the ball well, was certainly not anonymous. But didn't really close down the Tykes midfield quick enough when they had it. Vassell 5 - Pretty anonymous apart from a couple of cutting runs through the midfield. He's Sven's favourite so he'll be picked every week, even though Dyer is much better in that position. Sorry, but it's the centre or nothing for Vassell IMO. Yakubu 4 - Also anonymous apart from a chance in the second half where he got tackeld instead of playing it to King and Dyer who were in support either side. Generally lazy. Gallagher 7 - Funny game for him, his free kicks (usually his saving grace) were awful. But his general play was good, kept it simple for the most part but pulled off a couple of great passes. Scored from open play (which rarely happens) and it was a corker. Never thought I'd see a better goal than that today, but I did! Subs Oakley 5.5 - Thought he did well when he came on, unlucky not to score with a piledriver, calm in possession Dyer 6 - Was on for a lot less time than Vassell but was 3 times more effective. He should definitely be playing instead. Hobbs 5 - Game was dead when he came on. I will be gutted if he goes out on loan. Atmosphere 7 - Barnsley fans were pretty good, we were quite quiet but I think that reflected our slightly lazy start. Once we were in control though it was much better. The Poznan is being done by about half the East Stand now. Nice rendition of Happy Birthday for Sven Half time entertainment 10 - That's more like it, Top, get them down here every game. Or at least some other hot chicks dancing (and not 12 year olds dancing in front of the West Stand like we've had before)
gh09lcfc Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 7 - Didn't have much to do, but when called upon did everything right Naughton 9 - Man of the Match for me, got great pace and width in and he's goal was brilliant Mee 8 - Thought he was very composed today after he's poor debut Bamba 7 - Didn't have the best of first halfs, but second half was excellent Van Aanholt 7 - Good going forward, didn't really have much defending to do mediocre tbh Abe 6 - Gave the ball away too many times, probably our worst player Wellens 7 - Decent performance as usual King 8 - Excellent player, and needs to sign that contract soon great goals Gallagher 8 - Brilliant strike improving every game Vassell 6 - Lacklustre performance hardly seen the ball Yakubu 7 - Quite poor, but when he got on the ball and got to run was quality Subs - Oakley 7, Dyer 7, Hobbs 6 Cheerleaders 9 - Not quite 10 because they sounded like screeching 5 year olds.
AlphaMaleFox Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Van Aanholt 4.5 - He was poor at Bramall Lane and poor at the Wharf today. He's quick but he didn't pass it well. Crossing was terrible. Defended ok. Not proving to be better than Berner at the moment, but it's only 2 games. By the way, who hit the crossbar with a free-kick?
Ricey Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale - 7 Van Aanholt - 5 - Very quick but defensively poor, most of their attacks came from his side. When given the chance to cross wasted it Bamba - 8 - couple of nervy moments but what's there not to love? Mee - 7.5 - much better but distribution was poor Naughton - 9 - brilliant, just brilliant Abe - 6 - seemed nervous Wellens - 7 - not at his best but still crucial King - 9 - 2 great goals and was involved more than usual Vassell - 5 - sat too deep, looked lazy. Dyer is twice the player Gallagher - 7 - great goal, about it though Yakubu - 6 - not his game, threatened towards the end but without being fed the Yak won't score
m00nie Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 By the way, who hit the crossbar with a free-kick? 1 free kick, (that still didnt go in) dont make a game
orangecity23 Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 7 Not very busy, but handled well from crosses and dealt with everything well. Should have done a bit better with the goal though. Naughton 8 All action performance, capped off with a great goal (must have been training with Hamann ). I'll be gutted if we don't snap him up in the summer. Bamba 8 Solid again, and that crazy run from his own box into the opposition penalty area was hillarious, just needed a right footed Lloyd cross to give him a goal. Mee 8 Very impressive today, read the game well, tackled well, passed well. We look much more comfortable on the ball at the back with him in the side. Van Aanholt 7 Harshly rated by some, I thought he had a decent game, got forward well, but was lacking a good final ball. Took a great save to keep out his free kick. Abe 6.5 Not at his best, but full of running as usual Wellens 6.5 Like Abe, not on his best today, but did pull some nice passes out the bag. King 9 Surely won't be long before he bags a hat trick, two cracking finishes, that chip Gallagher 8 Some toss free kicks, but other than that a good performance, and that goal was absolutely sublime. Yakubu 6.5 Some poor touches, but some quality moments too, not a great deal of service meant the Yak was dining off of scraps today Vassell 6.5 Lost the ball in a few dody areas, but put some decent defensive work in too, and that run in the first half was cracking. Subs: Oakley 7 I didn't see the point of him coming on, but Grandpa Oaks put in a decent cameo, some nice passes to keep possesion and a stinging drive just tipped over. Dyer 7 Dangerous, probably should have started instead of Vassell, as DV and Gallagher doesn't give us the same pacy impact without Lloyd. Hobbs Not on long.
whenyouresmiling Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale - 7 Naughton - 8 Bamba - 8 Mee - 8 Van Aanholt - 6 Abe - 5 Wellens - 7 King - 8 Gallagher - 8 Yakubu - 6 Vassell - 6 Subs: Oakley - 6 Dyer - 6 Hobbs - 6

Guest ttfn Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 7.5 - Solid Naughton 7.5 - Mediocre defensively. Cracking hit for the goal. Mee 7.5 - Better. Somebody needs to tell him to stop going to ground. Bamba 8 - One day he's going to cost us an important goal. For now, he's ace. Van Aanholt 6 - Woeful final ball, good free kick. Abe 6 - Poor today. Uninvolved and poor distribution. Wellens 7 - Mixed bag. King 9 - 2 wonderful goals and some great passing. His vision to pick out van Aanholt in the first half was brilliant. Gallagher 7.5 - Occasionally casual, but great hit for the goal. Vassell 7 - No great impact. Yakubu 5 - Pretty much an identical performance to the one against Millwall, but he didn't score today. Evidently lazy but possesses a great deal of class on the ball. If Fryatt had put in a performance like that in a City shirt there'd be all kinds of abuse flying around. Oakley was good off the bench, Lloyd less so.
Kitchandro Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 By the way, who hit the crossbar with a free-kick? Oh yeh forgot about that. Still 4.5 though!

harryboi72 Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Hard to please or what? Wellens and Yuki didn't have there best games today but thats just stupidly harsh! abe was out of the game for most of it so i dont regret that rating, wellens usually performs to an amzing standard and when he has off performances they stand out more, and gallasgher he scored but he is greedy and wasted chance after chance, hes not my sort of player hes too greedy by far

And Naughton was class today.

Bugg Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 abe was out of the game for most of it so i dont regret that rating, wellens usually performs to an amzing standard and when he has off performances they stand out more, and gallasgher he scored but he is greedy and wasted chance after chance, hes not my sort of player hes too greedy by far You rated Wellens 5.4 because he didn't have an "amazing performance". He was good and had a hand in a couple of goals. Abe is never noticeable in games because his job is to make sure their key players are shut out of the games (see Him vs McGugan and him vs Commons). And well, the gallagher rating is stupid, most of his shots were on target and he could have had a hat trick if it wasn't for Luke Steele.
Thracian Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Weale 7 (Excellent decision in coming out to make one block and sound handling. Just Mr Competent for me). Naughton 8 (Awesome piledriver of a goal. Active, involved and quite effective generally). Mee 8 (Always involved. Read the game well. Sometimes left his actions a bit later than I'd like but definitely another decent game). Bamba 7.5 (Such a presence and such a personality. Tripped over the ball twice trying to play around in silly places - the lack of concentration Hibs fans mentioned - but he was a formidable and surprisingly skillful defender most of the time). Van Aanholt 5.5 (Just didn't impress. So much of Barnsley's danger. including their goal plus a goal that was disallowed, came from crosses from the right. Some of his positioning looked questionable, his distribution was shaby, he provided very little attacking presence until the last fifth of the game and his habit of ambling back into position after giving the ball away would have had me hauling him off in no time. He shouldn't be menioned in the same breath as Ashley Cole. Abe 5.5. (Failed to impose himself at all. His two assets are his engine and an ability to do the simple things competently but neither were greatly in evidence today and, for me, he simply didn't make enough happen, again! We needed to close down Barnsley's players far more quickly in the first half and to get more men forward but he contributed little to either need). Wellens 7 (Very average today but unlike Abe he never stopped getting involved and at least trying to create something, ie his contribution to a couple of our goals. But his touch was off and he seemed to be back taking that extra touch that always has a negative effect on his game. Times he was caught out doing this or even trying to beat a bloke two or three times. His passing and control were not as good as usual in what were not easy conditions but all the more reason for him keeping things simple. In his defence people like Vassell and Yakubu gave him so few options). King 9.5 (Midfield masterclass. Two absolutely brilliant goals, sad he didn't shoot to give himself the chance of a third. Hardly put a pass wrong. In fact he was carving Barnsley apart at times. Showed such vision and selflessness, making everything easy for his colleagues with countless examples of his pass and move style. Coupled with uncanny accuracy, it was little surprise he was the offical sponsor's man of the match. Gallagher 8 (Another spectacular goal and very nearly a couple more. Gallagher continued to have the effect that is so important including playing a vital part in getting the ball to King for our second. How frustrating he was with his wasteful free-kicks but the pluses more than made up for his mistakes). Vassell 2 (Whatever he collected for today's effort was a complete waste of money. In what was an incident-packed game I can't think of any significant contribution he made. He didn't even show a sense of urgency in closing people down. Seems wasted on the wing anyway and never looks in Dyer's class to me in that role). Yakubu 6 (Mostly for his assist and for making the space for King to score his second. Yakubu did next-to-nothing otherwise until most way through the second half when he failed to beat the keeper from 10 yards after Dyer had virtually given him a goal. Managed a couple of reasonable late shots but that was it. Not impressed. ). Subs Oakley 7 (Almost scored with a screamer and helped make us a much more rounded side in replacing Abe). Dyer 7 (Denied what would have been an excellent assist by Yakubu's incompetence. His arrival coincided with us looking a much more dangerous side. We also benefitted from his willingness to close people down quickly and put them under pressure. It's not that he doesn't make mistakes, he does. But he does try to disturb defences and invariably succeeds.). Hobbs 6 (Inconsequential really). Sven? 7 Good result. The substitutions he made improved the team and he's clearly given players encouragement to shoot which brought dramatic reward. For all that our tactics of falling back and conceding two thirds of the pitch when we scored the first, might so easily have backfired. Barnsley netted twice - far more than they deserved, even if one was disallowed. They were weak defensively. We might have hit six or seven but you cannot complain at three more points and still being unbeaten in the league during 2011.
B52 Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 Sven? 7 Good result, the subs he made improved the team and he's clearly given players encouragement to shoot which brought dramatic reward. For all taht our tactics of falling back and conceding two thirds of the pinch when we scored the first might so easily have backfired. Barnsley netted twice - far more than they deserved as such a poor team, even if one was disallowed. They were so poor defensively I thought we might have hit six or seven but you cannot complain at three more points and still being unbeaten in the league during 2011. I think you will be blown away when Sven set it up, just as you please, in the play offs.. He already knows what we can do and it's probably because of that he gels the right people for the future. The defence is prio. 1.
