England v 'Wales

England coach Fabio Capello claims Rio Ferdinand was at fault for not coming to meet him to discuss the decision to award the captaincy to John Terry.

Capello has reinstated Terry as captain ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales after a year's 'punishment' following high-profile personal issues and is now set to lead the Three Lions out at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Capello claims he was 'upset' for Terry during the game with Denmark when the captain's armband was handed out to a number of players while the Chelsea defender watched on.

An injury to Ferdinand means the Manchester United defender is unable to link up with the squad but rumours suggest that he is unhappy with the way the matter was dealt with, only finding out Capello's decision through the media.

However, the Italian has now laid the blame at Ferdinand's door by claiming he did not come to meet him when he visited Old Trafford for a UEFA Champions League clash earlier in the month.

Capello said: "It didn't happen, he didn't come. He didn't come."

Asked why the pair did not meet, he added: "This is a question for him, not for me. I was in the directors' box.

"I tried to meet him (Ferdinand) when Manchester United played against Marseille but he told me no.

"I can understand everything, but I need to make decisions. I think I will be happy and will meet him in the future."

Meanwhile, the former AC Milan coach has defended his decision to give the armband back to Terry following a year in the wilderness.

Decision

Terry has spoken of his pleasure at being reinstated and Capello admits his mind was made sure during the friendly against Denmark in February.

"Something happened in my mind when I saw the armband being passed around during our game in Copenhagen," he remarked.

"We changed it in the second half and it was unfair for John Terry to see this.

"I thought that it was time for John Terry, after punishment, to return and be captain.

"I know that Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard are not fit. I knew it was the moment, with one game which is so important, to have one captain like John Terry.

"I spoke with the players and personally with some players, and I spoke with the squad before I decided that John Terry will be the captain, and all the players were happy because John Terry was always a very important leader on the pitch and to the team."

England take on Wales in what is an important game in their quest to qualify for next year's tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Capello is aware of the significance of the contest in Cardiff and was keen to discuss the match rather than the issue of the captain.

He said: "Are we here to speak about the captaincy or the Wales game? It is a really important game tomorrow."

Good news all those wanting to watch the highlights and who don't have Skysports. Well it is if you have digital TV of some sort at any rate.

Highlights on S4C at 8:30... dunno if it will all be in Welsh, but from previous experience of watch these channels there's usually a red button option for English commentary (cos as we know there is nobody who speaks Welsh who blumming well doesn't know how to speak English.)

Result!

You can usually red-button English commentary for bigger games that are broadcast live. I don't know if they'll have an English language option for a pre-recorded program.

Well Paul Hartson (nod of respect to the guy who survived testicular cancer in his brain) is one of the pundits. What's his Welsh like? I've never had him down as a fluent speaker of the Welsh, but I stand to be proven wrong (again).

So how come Peter Crouch has 7 goals and 3 assists in the Champions League this season, making him one of the most lethal strikers in the competition?

His 9 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season for Spurs means he's made a vital goal contribution on average for every 104 minutes he's been on the pitch.

Oh... and the reason Crouch hasn't scored more goals for England against better quality opposition is down to the simple fact that he's rarely picked to play in those matches.

Remember the World Cup Finals in South Africa when England were desperate for goals against Germany?

Who did Capello bring on?

Emile bloody Heskey!

Be quiet, go and hide in a corner and read a book, please.

He isn't picked against better quality oppostion because he isn't good enough. Heskey was played because he seemed to bring out the best in Rooney, England's most talented player (bar Gerrard). The fact he could allow Rooney to play to his full potential warranted a starting place, and got us through qualification at a canter.

Crouch has scored hat-tricks against Birstall C.C Under 13's.

Anyone that even considers Crouch to be in the same bracket as Rooney needs to go away.

Yes I'm pissed.

Can I just add that it makes me chuckle that a Nation who's football team struggle to get 25,000 for most home games can suddenly get 75,000 when the chance of a fluke win against England presents itself. I hope Wales are Royally thrashed, and Cashley and JT spit roast Miss Wales to celebrate!

You mean Big John Hartson? Yeah he's a fluent Welsh speaker.

We cranked the prices right down, some of the cheapest tickets are £5. Plus it's Gary Speed's first home game, Aaron Ramsey's return to fitness and - of course - England.

Plus you have to consider how many of the "home" tickets have probably gone to English fans.

And I'm not entirely sure any England fan is in a position to roll their eyes at the Welsh for getting worked up for this game, the Sun has been "counting down the days" to this all week with features in their sports pages, so we're hardly alone. They even did a bit on Hal fucking Robson-Kanu! It'll be a massive anti-climax for them I imagine.

Oh, and, sorry <insert angry, reactionary jingoist retort here.>

Sosban, how likely is King to start/ play at all?

You think the Sun reflects the public mood in England?

Just like when they were trying to put a positive spin on the nazi budget earlier in the week. Leave off mate.

The games on Sky = Murdoch The Sun = Murdoch ... hype it up and keep it in the family.

Not very likely to start.

Think it'll be:

Robson-Kanu (instead of Bale), <Striker>, Bellamy

Ledley, Ramsey, Vaughan

Gunter, Collins, Collins/Gabbidon, Eardley,

Hennessey.

Biggest mystery for me is who he'll play up front. Given he's had both Vokes and Evans at Sheff Utd I'd suggest one of the two of them but I'm scared that we consider Morrison our form striker, heaven forbid. I'd personally play Evans or Church.

As long as Eastwood gets nowhere near the pitch, though, I'm happy.

What kind of attendance are they expecting there today? How many tickets were England given?

6,800. Whole allocation soldout.

Main decision and question for me is what time to get down the pub, fuck the game, just a good excuse for a piss up, hope England win but really not too bothered.

Hope King plays, the lad deserves it, however kind of hope he doesn't, he needs a rest.
