Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Neil Mellor, Gary Madine, Steve Howard, Jermaine Johnson, and 1 other is what I am hoping for next season. Will Hoskins at Bristol Rovers is another one I would like us to sign. Those two together would probably be the most immobile front 2 ever.
tartanowl Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Those two together would probably be the most immobile front 2 ever. Which is why I wouldn't expect Steve Howard to start every week if he signed. I agree with you I don't think they would combine well. Signing Mellor on a full deal will be Megson's priority this summer. Howard IMO would combine better with Madine or Johnson. But I doubt he would be above Mellor in the pecking order with his 20 goals this season. Personally I can only see Howard being signed as a bit part player. I doubt he would have the legs for regular 90 minute displays at his age. How is his fitness?
ScouseFox Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Howard and Hoskins would dominate league 1. They'd be unstoppable as a pair.

Guest Bilo Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 He was great for us in that league but not exactly prolific. He tended to win more lay-offs for Fryatt and was more of a danger at set-pieces than anything else, being very immobile. He will monster defences that aren't full of hard men and if you play long ball with a fairly decent striker, his assists will be as valuable, if not more valuable, as his goals. He'd be a decent signing at that level, excellent impact substitute.
ScouseFox Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I'd love to see them as a partnership at Hillsborough. Aye, Hoskins will be up for grabs if Rovers go down, although Brighton were interested in January, as were Derby apparently. And Howard's not really getting much game time here, so a fair price, around £200,000 I'd say, and it'd probably be accepted. Howard would no doubt get himself right fired up for the derby next year as well
Donut Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 wasn't speedie, speedie dived for the penalty in 1991 (?) for blackburn, got a feeling it might have been glenn hoddle. the 3-0 down at half time game was Swindon wasnt it? Paul Bodin penalty to make it 4-3 after a SHOCKING DIVE
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Two different matches. Bloody hell you're right an all... Mi memory's going
muzzy1981 Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Good character to have at the club, but not the calibre of player I have ever been pleased to have at city. Good luck though stevie
AlphaMaleFox Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Yeah speedie tripped over his own laces in 92 play off, 93 play off was swindon, 3-0 down at one point, hoddle got one, think maskell got another maybe 2, then walsh, joachim and tommo to bring it back to 3-3, still remember oldfield getting through to make it 4-3 but couldnt get past a last ditch tackle, then they had another dodgy pen to win it. Thus began the love of my life
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Thus began the love of my life Thank-you so much much for that..made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. What we could do with a super player like Steve Thompson now... Their winner was a fookin dive though werent it!! bastad!!!
brockmyster Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 As much as i like the big man and the fact he gives 100%, its time for him to leave as he's just not good enough for championship any more in my opinion, however could probably still do a job in League 1.
BoneDog Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Bit harsh on old big nose.... he was a bit of a Peter Crouch to be fair, actually not too bad with his feet, just looked like a baby giraffe on speed.. I'll never forget that one two he did with Phil Gee against Derby
ajthefox Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 I'll happily admit that I gave Howard a fair amount of stick early on at City, probably unfairly as everyone was shit back then but I did realise the value of his contribution and the L1 season as well as last season were down to him as much as anyone else. However as pretty much everyone else has said, he's probably not going to be much use/able to cut it for us and at that price it'd be a decent deal for all concerned. All the best Suuuuuper, Super Steve!
Wymsey Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Saw my Step-Mother's Work Boss today (who's a big Huddersfield fan) and he said Jordan Rhodes is being lined by a 'number of championship' teams and their manager wants Howard as a replacement for him.
davieG Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 BBC sport Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson says he has no plans to sell striker Steve Howard. "He's our player and has a contract for one more year," Eriksson told BBC Radio Leicester when asked if rumours linking him with Sheffield Wednesday were true. Howard, 35, signed a new contract in October which ties him to the Walkers Stadium club until June 2012. He figured in 35 games last season but competition up front was fierce and 19 of those games came as a substitute.

Every team that gets out of the Championship needs a big man, for those horrible scrappy games against teams that we can't seem to break down. It happened in League One, it happened last season & it happened this season. P.S It is Super Steve's birthday today!
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 I'd say he may well go, the club were smart & tied him to a contract so they aren't going to give him away. I'd imagine he's on good money & it may not be well spent in keeping him on the bench. I think he's an honest pro & will want regular football. Time will tell.
Steven Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 From one Steven to another who also has a birthday today, Happy Birthday.

I wouldnt be quite so confident as the reporter and interpret Sven's words that way.. unless of course Sven said more than just this, Sounds to me like they want a fee for him.
Happy Fox Posted 17 May 2011 Author Posted 17 May 2011 http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/sport/HULL-CITY-Tigers-swoop-Howard-s-way/article-3562326-detail/article.html HULL City are weighing up a move for Leicester forward Steve Howard as Nigel Pearson looks to bulk up his front line for next season. The Mail understands Howard has been included on a short-list of attacking targets and he could be favourite to add a new dimension to the Tigers' strike force. The 35-year-old targetman served under Pearson for two seasons at the Walkers Stadium and with Foxes boss Sven Goran Eriksson planning a summer shake-up, Howard looks likely to be deemed surplus to requirements. Admired for his hold-up play and uncompromising aerial threat, the former Luton and Derby veteran ticks all the boxes in Pearson's search for a new front man this summer. Nottingham Forest striker Dele Adebola, who is out of contract this summer, is another name under consideration but Howard would be preferred if Leicester are willing to scrap the final year of his contract in the East Midlands. Howard is well liked by City's coaching staff after playing a key role in Leicester's revival under Pearson. Enjoying a fruitful partnership alongside City's chief goal-threat Matty Fryatt, he was instrumental in the Foxes winning the League One title in 2008-09 and then reaching the Championship play-offs 12 months later. Pearson's switch to the KC Stadium last summer has since seen Howard's stock fall and for much of 2011, he was little more than an impact player off the bench. A one-year contract extension was signed under Eriksson last October, tying him to the club until June 2012, but with the Foxes reportedly trailing the likes of Yakubu and Emile Heskey, Howard's future looks bleak at the Foxes. Pearson also has history of trading in trusted former players. Nolberto Solano and Fryatt made moves from Leicester to the Tigers in the last 12 months, while centre-half Jack Hobbs was also loaned for three months. City hope to make Hobbs' loan move permanent if Leicester are willing to do business and Howard's name should also be raised in any negotiations. League One outfit Sheffield Wednesday are also believed to be keen on Howard.

As Adam Pearson previously revealed to the Mail, the Tigers are known to be targeting at least seven more summer transfers to follow left-back Joe Dudgeon and midfielder Corry Evans, who kick-started City's recruitment last week. A new striker is one area seen as a must to offer variation to complement the more diminutive threats of Fryatt, Aaron Mclean and Jay Simpson. The Tigers are also thought to be among a cluster of clubs chasing Ipswich Town skipper David Norris, 30, a former Tigers loanee back in 2002, after he turned down a new contract at Portman Road. Neil Danns and Bradley Johnson are another two free agents being tracked. edit: the guy above beat me too it!!!
The Padster Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 Next season away at Hull If Hobbs & Howard end up moving there; Are you Leicester, Are you Leicester, Are you Leicester in disguise, Are you Leicester in disguise.
