Leicfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 thats the thing tho' Maynard has expressed a desire to stay, His agent is holding up him signing a new contract with a few extras he wants (last time I heard it was the min reliese clause that was holding it up) He is quite happy to play for us this coming season he hasn't done a tevez and kicked and screamed about wanting to leave, He's been highly professional throughout all this and remained focused on pre-season says alot about the player really There's no denying Maynard has been very professional about the whole situation which I applaud but if he's expressed a desire to stay, then maybe now is the time to let everybody know via a statement. Then this issue can be closed and everyone can move on.
Bezzanator89 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Well the £5million rejection is a statement in itself but yes, some actual feedback from an official Bristol City source would be very helpful.
One Arm Babba Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 It's strange that Millen doesn't want the money to strengthen the team. No disrespect to BCFC fans but he's not exactly surrounded by quality. If they don't sell Maynard then how much will this billionaire owner invest in their playing squad? Not 5 million I'm sure.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 In reply to my question have LCFC made any new bids bean_head Adam Baker@ @liamlcfc nothing has changed or happened since our last statement
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Billionaire owners does not gaurantee success admittedly its a good start, but take the likes of the owners at A.V. Man City.Sunderland,Chelsea and so on.I think the Leicesters owners should put a lid on N.M. at £5m
Leicfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Well the £5million rejection is a statement in itself but yes, some actual feedback from an official Bristol City source would be very helpful. The rejection is a statement from the club (a clever chairman), not the player. Why does Nicky not just say "Look I've no interest in joining Leicester City at this current time, I'm flattered that such a BIG and historic club like Leicester is interested in signing me, but the time is just not right". I't must be unsettling him a bit, as it is us as we could be moving on to other targets.
Redski Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I hope it backfires on them if they continue to act like they are, I thought £3million was generous, never mind £5million. If he decides he wants to leave, which is likely considering he's stalling on a contract, then they might just get a deserved kick in the bollocks for not just biting the bullet, taking the money and run. They are potentially making millions in profit for Maynard so I don't see what their problem is. Plenty of decent cheaper strikers out there, I'm questioning if they've actually tried looking at other strikers. Everyone has their talisman up front, but every player has their price. About time Bristol City realised that. If this transfer saga backfires on them when he could go for a free, I can say they deserve it. I don't understand what we've done wrong in all this we stated before your first bid he wasn't for sale, other than having not yet signed a contract NM has never suggested he wants to leave, let alone join Leicester. Yet you seem to think thatyou have a divine right to sign whoever you like. If Lcfc had listened to us mid June you'd have saved a lot of time.
Charl91 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Ok Yak or Nuggent Naughton or Peltier Davis or Mills A keeper that conceeds 71 or one the conceeds 70... Apart from naughton (and is supposed to be good anyway), our defense should be an improvement on last year. If you think Weale is better then Kasper, then you might aswell just stop writing now. Our midfields the same, only with the addition of danns, so that's improved also. Not sure on attack yet, it depends who else we buy, however the Yak only seemed good against weaker opponents and as others have said, sometimes it was like playing with 10 men. Im confident that with or without NM though, our attack will be at least as good as last years; sven should see to that.

Seriously mate, that speaks volumes in itself and certainly more than any quote he could have released saying how much he loves the club and wants to stay. In my eyes until he signs that contract he's on the way out, it's just a matter of where.
ithuriel Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Suit's the player not to say anything, he can actually milk BCFC if you sit back and think about it. The agent might say to them, you value him at £8million, he should have a contract worthy of such a player and he get's a huge, huge wedge from the club. What that does to the dressing room is another thing if the other players are on peanuts by comparison The other scenario is he sit's back and allow's his contract to run down which mean's he get's a chance at going to a prem club if he continues to play well and BCFC have no money coming in to replace him when he goes or they desperately try to cash in during the midseason transfer window when they will get no more than a couple of million for him.
Monkeh BCFC Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 The money is going to a few of our fans heads. tell us about it, every time lansdowns wealth goes up it goes to our fans head, You lot have the inferstruction in place we don't which is why we are playing the slowly slowly catchy moneky game, Once the training complex is complete (should be finished this year) and the ground is done I expect our manager (who ever it may be at that time) will get a rather large war chest to get us up (if we don't get promoted in the mean time), Anyway from what some hear only thing holding up the new contract is get out clauses for prem clubs which the club are reluctenet about
John Matrix Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 let's get out of this one now. as good as he is let's not get fixated on one signing and taken to the cleaners i can see what they're thinking pay under the odds now for what they deem to be a prem quality striker to avoid paying over the odds later. but that's dependent on us getting in the Prem. Would rather see where were at by Christmas and having another shot if were in a good position and he hasn't signed a new contract (unlikely)
Chazwaz Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I'm getting tired of this scenario, find it really odd how Bristol feel the need to announce they have rejected bids, probably to entice more bids, which would suggest he IS for sale...
Redski Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 The way I see it is that at the moment he is a BCFC player and we are making every effort to keep it that way. Yes NM maybe playing a game to get the best contract he can or maybe he is waiting to see if a Premier League club comes in for him but at the moment we're showing ambitions to keep our best player yet that is being portrayed as greedy and amateurish by some on here.

You read this thread and it's like some people can't comprehend that he might want to stay at Bristol. Everyone's getting a little bit giddy and assuming that EVERYONE wants to sign for us.

Everyone's getting a little bit giddy and assuming that EVERYONE wants to sign for us. It's worth remembering that he's just become a Dad as well and if he's settled in the South West then perhaps a move to another Championship side isn't in his best interest especially if he has desires of playing in the Prem.

Not amateurish but both clubs are maybe getting played by the player and his agent, we have heard how slippery agent's can be . I just find it ammusing more than frustrating to be honest

Don't think that at all - I think you've every right to hold out. I think NM has done exactly the right thing by keeping his head down where the media are concerned. Just because we have a few quid, doesn't give us the right to barge in and expect a club to part with their players...
Leicfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I'm getting tired of this scenario, find it really odd how Bristol feel the need to announce they have rejected bids, probably to entice more bids, which would suggest he IS for sale... I believe that to be the case also. I reckon we'll go in this afternoon with one final take it or leave it offer of 5.75m plus add-ons. (Just my opinion)

(Just my opinion) I really hope not. in my opinion thats far too much for him, i wouldnt feel comfortable if we signed him for that price. there must be better options around if we are going to be throwing that sort of cash about

Just because we have a few quid, doesn't give us the right to barge in and expect a club to part with their players... Even more so now that we spent 5m on Matt Mills. As an unwritten rule proven strikers are usually a lot more expensive than proven defenders, so I don't blame them at all.
Bezzanator89 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 No more offers. Maynard has potential yes, but not worth any more than £5million. And Redski, can perfectly understand why you'd want to keep him, but every player has his price. The fact he's stalling on a new contract and as time passes, his value will decrease. You should cut yur losses and sell him rather than later, we'll just attempt again at a later date. We are happy to play the waiting game.
