Nicky Maynard

If I am not much mistaken , Leicester City have said not one single word about Maynard. All of this could have been done behind closed doors, but no the Bristol City Chairman has decided to make several statements on the matter. Why? Why would he say anything at all? Are they trying to show how big and rich they are? Trying to push Maynard into signing a contract? I think probably they think it makes them sound like they are in a position of strength. I suspect they are going to find out between now and August 31st that they are not. I can see a prem club coming in last minute (remember Connolly?) and Maynard won't have signed the contract, or will have done with a prem release clause of his choosing, no doubt less than we have bid. He will go, and Bristol will be left wondering weather the shortflall Vs out offer, and the inability to spend the cash before January, was really worth it.

In the meantime we will have signed someone cheaper.

No more offers. Maynard has potential yes, but not worth any more than £5million.

And Redski, can perfectly understand why you'd want to keep him, but every player has his price. The fact he's stalling on a new contract and as time passes, his value will decrease. You should cut yur losses and sell him rather than later, we'll just attempt again at a later date. We are happy to play the waiting game.

you're tight every player has a price, problem is you haven't met Maynards.

Bristol City have never mentioned which club has been putting in bids.

The chairman responded to bids from clubs who were not disclosed. What's wrong with that ?

Incidentally, the deal for Mills makes interesting reading ;

Or better. Don't get me wrong, this was a worthy candidate for our strike force, but it's worth asking the recipent of the offer if they are willing to sell under any circumstances, plus he's not worth £5million in my opinion, I drew the line at £3million. I say this because, this transfer saga is now a complete waste of our time as fans hoping for a signature, and the owners' (who are wanting a promotion-makign squad as soon as possible) time. Think it may be time to call it a day to this pursuit. There are better options out there and this opportunity is fading fast, we can do better.

UP THE CITY. :scarf:

Once again the Express and Star spouts a load of bollocks.

We upped our bid because the first bid of 3 million was rejected.

The trouble is we probably have come to a feasible amount for the lad, it's just your valuation and expectations for a massive offer is too much. You can blame it on yourselves if he leaves on a discounted price in the near future, should have just taken your £5million and ran, you would have a nice tidy profit, what more do you want? I would give you a medal but I'm fresh out of those.

And they know that how?

This is the Express and Star trying to save face after nailing their colours to the mast by saying "he's going to sign for wolves". Even the Wolves fans think the paper is a joke.

This is really simple. Maynard's holding out for an offer from a Premier league club. One will come before the end of the transfer window, probably for around £6m, and he'll be off.

I'm afraid for both BCFC and us, that neither of us will see Nicky play in out shirts (again).

I think a Premier league team will come a knocking later in the Window. One who has sold one of their strikers. But I don't think they will offer anything near what we have offered. They won't have to to get NM's attention. If he wants PL football, then he will force a transfer to them and BCFC will have to take it or have a very upset star on their hands. Thats the thing I just don't get from their owners or Fans who just can't see the real issue here.

Take our over the odds price now or take a lot less from a PL team later, which will suit Maynard one way or another. They are going to lose him, no doubt.

There is no way on earth he is going to a premier league club for 6 million with 1 ur left on his contract. Gael clichy only went for 7, Charlie Adam 6.5. Both those players have premier league experience. Maynard could flop in the premier league. The only reason the price is going up and up is because they are not forced to sell him to us and they know we have money to spend. This whole scenario will only change if Maynard comes out and says he'd like to talk to LCFC. Then BCFC might have to accept our offer.

Posted

Well they're gonna try to get the best possible price out of him. But I sincerely doubt anyone else will as high as we have.

The fact that we were a Championship club was the big factor. If we were in the Premier League, he would have been on his way to Leicester by now. And if being in the same division bothers him that much, just put a clause in the agreement saying he can't play against Bristol City, simple as that! It borderlines on pathetic if that's the reason they won't sell him to us. :frusty:

Wouldnt surprise me if no-one bids on him now, especially at £6million. He isnt worth close to that, and im sure premier league managers have been watching the situation and will not want to deal with a player that is unwilling to firmly state his position, or a club that want to publically announce every offer in order to get others interested.

Fvck him, and move on.

Of course, if we did sign him at a decent price, i wouldnt complain :P

Wolves are a completely different position to us. The fact is we are still in the Championship, and in the main, premiership players are not going to join us. So our pool of potential players is much smaller, and we will no doubt have to pay top dollar to get players to improve our squad, which was not that bad last season. Comparing who we sign and what we have to pay to a club sat in the Prem is pointless and meaningless.

Also, comparing the rejected £3m bid from Wolves to the accepted £4m+ bid from us is a little pointless. If Reading had accepted £3m from Wolves then the story would have some merit.

To the guy who said a Prem club will pay £6m, I doubt that very very much. We will see I guess.

Believe that if you will. For those of us who have been following the Mills transfer in detail we remember the very bold article some days before which stated that Wolves, although they had no bid accepted would sign Mills and the deal would be completed by the end of this week. It also referred to a Wolves bid of in excess of £3m. Of course there's no active link to this anymore but suddenly Wolves were really clever to have dodged a bullet and we were taken for fools. Reading between the lines I see a journalist pandering to local consumption as his wonderful sources of two days previously are shown for what they are. Or perhaps he believes Reading acted improperly in communicating invented bids to us? Wouldn't that be illegal?

Well...Just found an earlier article which supposedly shows the Wolves bid that was quoted in their previous article.

Reading director of football Nicky Hammond returned to his desk from Mauritius today to hear the Foxes have matched Wolves’ take-it-or-leave-it £3million-plus offer for the 24-year-old.

I have a differing, though equally cynical perspective on this Jon.

He either signs an extension or they sell. Simples. And the deals been on the table since may and Maynard hasn't signed it.

They can't let him walk on a free, or even leave in Jan without him going for less than he will today.

Publicly though, they must present strong opposition to selling their best player/asset. (Despite knowing they are going to do it)

There has been a shift in vocabulary of the Chairman since this process began.

Turning down offers publicly is only intended to soften the blow when it comes by presenting a "at least we tried" to stave off the Championship Club but the player wanted to go blah blah blah............

Publicly announcing the offers / bids is also an attempt to drive up media attention around their prize asset in an attempt to draw in Prem teams or a bidding war of some kind.

Sven only wants players who want to play for this club - I'd be very surprised if Sven didn't know Nicky's position in terms of wether he is wasting his time on a player who isn't interested in playing for Leicester.......

I'll be surprised if he is not on the plane on Sunday.

If they delay any longer, they may just get to keep him and Svenster will be taking his 6 million and laying down on a different Chairman's coffee table somewhere else - that would be a mistake for them business wise and a mistake for Maynard in footballing terms.

Yes, that is perhaps the more likely scenario. It amazes me that fans believe anything said in the media.

True, there is a vast chasm of difference between not needing money and stupidly throwing it into a river because you have a lot of it.

It's business.

You are owned by a business man.

Do the math.
